Improving gas mileage?

    I had a 2017 Tacoma off road and it only got 13-15 in town, My 2018 Tundra give me 12 -14 in town, much bigger truck and heavier. The Tundra is much better for towing than the taco, both gave me 10 mpg and my Tundra has a 38 gal tank.:oldglory:

    Just did a 1200bmile road trip. On the trip up I ran 93 only and on the trip back I ran 89. The difference in MPG was only about .5mpg. I averaged 15mpg. One thing I will say is I saw no difference in MPG when running with the tow haul on or off. I'm gonna run it on all the time now. It's an entirely different truck.

    I know people hate these threads but they keep coming up. Maybe we should just make a sticky?

    I pay attention to fuel economy as well, though these days I've been just enjoying driving my truck since gas is cheap. My average is now down to 13.5 L/100km which is about 17.5 mpg. It was worse in the winter, but since the winter ended and i swapped tires and dropped 400 pounds of weight in the back it has improved enough to make my average 13.5, which means I'm driving around at like 12.5 even with air conditioning on. My tires really helped, I have cooper AT3s on in the stock size. These will get replaced with bigger tires once I have money to put coilovers in, and my MPG will take a hit of course. Smooth highway tires in the stock size helps, shed any extra weight that doesnt need to be in the truck, and drive the speed limit. I get my rocks on when merging onto the 401 or passing transports, but otherwise I drive like an old man. Keep in mind that I live in the country and would never see anything close ot what I'm getting now if I lived in town or spent any time in town. I am basically getting best case scenerio.

    A guy with a late model chevy with all of the cylinder deactivation and tall highway gearing was telling me that if I can get 600 km on a tank (375 miles) then I'm doing just fine. He got 700 once under absolutely ideal conditions but was getting 600-650 on most fillups. I am getting that just fine, and I have more power, lower gearing, fewer gears and no fuel economy gimmicks.
