don't beat yourself up over a oil filter housing. I destroyed the one on my wife's car with the impact after i tore the stamped socket (adapter) apart with the breaker bar. Ended up with the aluminum one and swapped. luckily i had the aluminum at the house.

I usually don't mess with the cap on the bottom of the filter.
something to consider if your replacing the filter housing.

JB weld that cap to the housing and use the cap to loosen the old housing.
Or you can drill the plastic housing apart until you can get the plastic to losen the torque to the housing. But be careful ( you dont' want to damage anything you don't have too).

    Good luck. You got this.

Take a Dremel and score a groove in the plastic housing. Then gently take a small chisel or flat blade and crack it open like an egg. I recommend two blunts, one before for stress, one after for celebration.

That is an excellent idea. Use the 3/8 square to drive it off?

All I know is from here on out I'm just going to pay somebody to do the goddamn thing and if they screw it up they can fix it. It is worth all the money in the goddamn world to never deal with this again.

I disagree. you now have more working knowledge of the system and if you really need your truck as you do, you need to know the oil filter has been changed correctly.

But, i get where you're at now.
I used to really enjoy wrenching, now its just another thing to get outta the way. (even extended my tire rotation interval to 10k as i'm too lazy to do it at 5k this winter).

UPDATE: The shop that did the last change is on the hook for the piggy back ride and the repair. Im gonna have em put on the metal housing and WATCH the fucker when he torques it with a proper wrench. Then I will never have this goddam problem again. Still love my tundra but really hate some of the shit on it.

Nonsense. Pessimism is the key to a happy life. Bear with me here…. The pessimist is usually right, for starters, which aids in long term Planning. Furthermore, the pessimist always expects the worst and thus is pleasantly surprised when the worst outcome doesn’t present itself. Even if all hell breaks loose they generally expected the outcome to be worse than it is and were prepared for that eventuality.

These optimists are in a constant state of letdown.

    signed, a realist.

Glad you are still around! I’ve had my fair share of problems from the dealer and lift shop. Glad it’s getting taken care of! My truck is also my money maker for my family so when it’s down it’s definitely not fun for myself, my family and work
