This was the original OEMpart I took out that the connector was plugged into.

Last month I had purchased an amplifier ring, 89783-06021 and i t is not
working. I am pretty sure that I ordered the correct one going by all of the posts about this subject on Tundras. It is for a 2017 Tundra SR5. I do have a column shift, I do not believe that should make a difference. I contacted Roman last week and gave my VIN #, but havent heard back from him. Any suggestions??

This mod only works if you have a 4 wire connector. If you have a 2 wire connector, you need to add 2 pins to the connector (1 power and 1 ground) according to a member here.

I was just assuming that it was plug and play. After reading all of the posts again, it seems like it is plug and play for some and others need the mod. Roman did get bag to me and confirmed that I had the correct part.

Unplug it and check the pins, make sure they are not bent and were seated correctly. It is plug and play, hopefully it isn't defective.

Good advice, I'll check that later today. If it still doesn't work I will test the ring with a 9V battery.

You may order some connector leads for supplying the additional 2 wires needed for the harness using the following link. You may also look into a “you pull” salvage yard to look at Toyota harness pin leads that are a compatible fit for the illumination ring plug end.

    https://www.digikey.com/product-det...amp-connectors/1123343-1/A107011CT-ND/3488572

Then as suggested, wire the leads to the footwell light on the driver side by the parking brake.

I do have a 4 wire harness, I checked the ring with a 9 volt battery and it illuminates with the pins shown in post 251. As you can see in the picture that I attached, I have no wires in those positions. I am going to have to run wires from the under dash light to pin positions 2 and 6 to get it to work.

    Yes, exactly.

The suggestion was NOT to acquire a 4 wire harness BUT the 2 “connector leads” that will mate/mesh inside the said harness that you would then “pig tail” to “X” respective power source: ie; footwell bulb.

I did both. I purchased said connector leads because I have happened upon several uses for them. However, I also have a 1999 RAV4 that is a parts vehicle that I found similar connector leads with wires off of to do this exact mod.

Actually, I have pilfered many Toyota/denso/etc oem parts that remain universal across the various models throughout the years off this vehicle. Thus the suggestion for the salvage yard.

    Best!

Just want to confirm that 89783-06021 DOES work on my 2017 SR5, console shift.

Bought this from @Darren509 after it didn't work on his 2016 TRD (got it from ebay from a Camry). He also tried the -06020 which didn't work either (he has this documented earlier in this thread). These seem very hit and miss on the pre 18 trucks.

That is messed up, since it didn't work on my 2017 SR5. Guess you didn't take any pictures, it would be interesting to see what is different with the wiring harness.
I am going to do the mod to get mine working. I have everything to do it, just getting some other projects done first. I am planning on documenting what I needed to do to get the ring to work.

This is the only photo I have that partially shows the wiring, I can go get a better one if needed. Excuse my ugly ass finger.

Wonder if it does have something to do with the column shift? I'm not exactly sure what all of the functions of this thing are. It says amplifier, immobilizer, is it for the key fobs?

My new illumination ring, 89783-06021 did not work on my 2017 DC SR5, column shift. All of this is documented on previous posts. I now have it working thanks to the great help of member ElNopal.

I had to had to add two wires to the connector for the illumination ring and run the wires down to the footwell bulb.

The pins that work for the connector are: https://www.digikey.com/product-det...amp-connectors/1123343-1/A107011CT-ND/3488572.
Here are the pins already crimped on wires and the wire tap.
    20200620_143457.jpg

I inserted these to the connector for the ring. The hot, red wire will plug in next to the green wire on the connector. The blue/red (sorry, it looks more red in the picture)negative wire will go between the grey and blue OEM wires.

    20200620_144306.jpg

I ran the other end of these wires down to the footwell bulb. This bulb housing can be removed from the dash by just twisting it. There is plastic sheathing around the wire for the bulb. It will be easier to put the wire tap on if the sheathing is pulled back. Here is the wire tap placed on the bulb wires. Blue is the hot wire and white is negative.
    20200620_145917.jpg

I added my wires from the illumination ring connector to the wire tap. Note: if you get the polarity reversed, the ring will not illuminate. I checked my wire tap with a meter after connecting it to the + and - wire just to make sure I was connecting to the correct ones.

    20200620_150510.jpg

My illumination ring is now working perfectly. Some extra work compared to the plug and play that is working for some people. But still not a bad mod to do. Thanks again to ElNopal for the help.

I would personally give it a try...

The seller appears to accept returns.

Or maybe research this one as it is the exact part number that YorkT successfully installed in his ‘17.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-2011-...R-OEM-89783-06021/324150966603?epid=661883651

However, before doing so, double check your ‘16 harness and determine if you have the 6 wires that are required for the earlier pre ‘18+ trucks. If you do then, use a small LED light and probe the LED light’s wires into the respective leads in your truck harness spots that YorkT explains above. If the LED light behaves as it would the illumination ring, then great, no additional wiring is needed, “plug and play”.

If your harness has four wires with slots for an additional two, then the likelihood is that you will have to complete the steps that YorkT did to have the ring illuminate.

Best of luck on the route you may take.

I went to the junkyard today and got one from an 08 Camry, cost me $5. Plug and Play with my 2014 as my connector has all the wires.

Check the black connector on your truck, if it has 6 wires, then it should work (plug and play). If it only has 4 wires, then refer to post 301 and add 2 wires to power the LED.
