If I was on any of the more difficult trails in SW Colorado I'd rent a beat to crap Wrangler that had been driven to the moon and back off road by tourists. That awful 4cyl that probably spent 80% of it's life floored. I never considered being stranded. I did take a ditch bag but that's just something you grew up doing.

#7. Mine is a lease, so in a couple years I can hand it back to Toyota anyway.

Won't five and seven meet in the same place? Do the required maintenance and don't look back. Drive it until it is time to move on - one way or another.

Will the engine blow while it's sitting turned off in your driveway? I'd guess not. So, it will probably go while it's running? That seems likely. So do you spend more time in park idling or driving while it's running? Hmm. So there's a good chance someone will be actually driving when it goes.

In a long line of "what ifs", like what if I win the lottery, or what if a meteor hits hits the moon and makes a happy face crater, I feel like a "what if" about an engine failure on the road is pretty damn reasonable and likely. All things considered.

I see both semis, and distracted drivers literally every time I drive anywhere. Hmm, maybe you live somewhere there's neither?

    Meh, to each there own.

Lol thought so. It's OK, you'll survive not living in a fantasy echo chamber of only amazing things said about the 3rd gen. Take care.

Probably. I wasn't very thoughtful about the nuances.
I am suprised about the volume and passion of Gen2.5 guys that have zero risk.
I'm not a brand loyal person. It seems like that means you expect something in return. I don't. It's not a love affair, it's a vehicle. I'll drive it until as you say- it's time to move on.

What was exactly stupid about it? Would you care to actually elaborate? Was it that the engine fails while running and most failure occur while driving and that there's lots of distracted drivers?

Yea, seems real stupid. Or you are real upset about facts lol

Nope. By the time you see chips in the oil it's in the shop with the pan dropped.

What facts did I distort? Quote them.

If you aren't thinking about the failures then why are you discussing them? Seems like when people yell they don't care, they actually do.

I haven't told a single lie. Just some annoying truths and irritating opinions. Some folks are emotional, I get it. Truth be told I feel like we're all on the same side, minor bickering amongst one another is inevitable but when I see a tundra on the road I'm like ah yea. I certainly wish this hot mess wasn't occurring.

We get it, you don't like the 3rd gen tundra. You remind me of my ex wife, 32 years of it. Never a positive thing to say.

Who said that? I don't like that it's got an unreliable engine. Which is a big deal. These conversations aren't about how amazingly bullet proof the new engine is, what is positive to say about a nearly 100k recall?

If the opposite was happening I'd likely be looking at picking one up. I think they look good when they get an aftermarket bumper and 35s.

The "it's not occuring" denial of reality from 3rd gen people is odd. It's occurring lol Don't be mad at me, tell toyota. There's dudes in 2024s waiting on engine number 2 right as I type this.

If you ignore someone I still have to see their stupid posts in the quotes. I will survive I guess. I had a 2020 tundra sport premium and now have a 23 off road. The 2020 had seats like a big comfy couch and the V8 sound. That’s all I can say that was superior on the ‘20. If you are worried about the power train I suggest buying a 4.7 tundra as it’s proven to be more reliable than the 5.7.

Unreliable??? My tundra's have always been used for work, towing very heavy and I rack up a shit ton of miles. All in the Rockie mountains. I have almost 64k on the '22. No denial here, real world experience. Have a nice evening.

I'm not discounting your experience, but dudes with 22's with 3 engines in the same truck and current 2024 dudes waiting on engine number 2 wouldn't say the same.

I get it you like your truck, but calling the 3.4tt reliable is a stretch. It hasn't earned that Moniker.

Many dudes in 6.0 powerstrokes never had a failure, that engine has reputation for being unreliable. Same for other engines.

Have a good night as well.

A lease was the right call. Notwithstanding the recall, my dealer said they're doing $6-7k off MSRP now. The lot is crammed with 3rd gens and they can't get used vehicles cuz folks are upside down on car loans. All predictable of course.
