Well, you're asking for it. You are kind of in deep shit right now with the 3rd gen, innit? This a MAJOR and for a $75K+ truck is absolutely unacceptable

Running fine doesn't mean you can't suffer from some resale loss caused by the catastrophe..Might not be world ending, but it still applies.

thats a stretch, there are many factors in resale and I didn't buy this for resale anyways, my last truck (2016) wasn't that great on resale either, and I didn't buy that for resale either. I buy the truck I like the most and that's it. I tested the GMC 6.2 and I would have bought that too if I liked it, lifters or not . The ford broke down on the test drive, bad resale before its even resold? lol

There will inevitably be a hit to resale values once word spreads. It might also be really tough to trade these trucks off unless the recall has been done. If I were a dealership used car manager I wouldn’t take a Tundra on trade that would be unsellable for several months waiting on the Toyota store to put in a new engine. Not unless the trade value reflected the months of wait time with the truck on a floor plan loan.

I don't think once the recall is done there will be a resale hit, we are speculating here. Im not looking to trade at all, but you right about trading a recalled truck off now, until the recall is done , that will be harder, same as any other recall. That said, Im not a huge resale guy or a MPG guy, it I get decent of either, Im cool. I can understand the people that need or want absolute max resale though, some people are into that. for that, private sale is the only way, I don't want phuck with that at all, done it before years ago, won't do it again

This recall could very well take more than a year to sort out. That is a lot of stuck Tundra owners who only keep a truck 2-3 years and trade. Those guys and gals are coming up on that soon.

All the lease customers should be feeling pretty smug right now though: “Here’s your fucked up 2022 Tundra back Toyota!”

As for resale, the only reason Toyota products have good resale values is their reputation for quality, durability, and reliability. That reputation is now gone for 2022 and 2023 Tundras.

ya, not sure, you could be right, Im keeping this for more than a year and mine isn't recalled anyways as of yet, Im past the feb 23 build date.

Im just not that worried about this, if it blows up , then I figure it out, until then Im driving a really nice truck I like and thats it.

maybe I should trade it for a GMC 6.2 and then sit here and worry about lifters? or go back and buy the ford that broke down on the test drive and worry about that?, or buy back my 2016 tundra that shit out in my garage with a ECU and fuel pump and worry about that as well?

or my gen 1 , buy that and worry about cracked manifolds, brakes warping, transfer case shitting out, and others I had worry about that?

funny thing is, my 2013 ram had the fewest problems, now who the hell would have thought that, lol.

Your economic situation is probably quite a bit better than many others on here. A vehicle going down represents a short term inconvenience for you, not a crisis. You’ve got the means to simply acquire other transportation while your broken one gets fixed, and take a financial hit on resale after the fact.

Unfortunately that doesn’t describe everyone. For a lot of owners this has the potential to be a lot of ass pain with no good work arounds during the remedy process, and pain on the back end when it comes time to trade the truck off. Now we can argue, correctly, that if things like this are make or break they shouldn’t have bought a $60K+ vehicle to begin with; that doesn’t make the pain go away for them.

Maybe Toyota actually steps up here and makes things right for everyone. However the response up to the point of the recall to all the known failures has been piss poor from a customer service standpoint.

As to the original question if I were a Gen 3 Owner I would go with option 3, and practice option 5 in the meantime.

I want to say 5. But I guess I’m dumb and don’t know what happens if it seizes while on the freeway. With it increasing crash chances. Like do I instantly lose all power steering and hard to hit breaks etc?

I can understand your points, and good post. Im not swimming in uncle Scrooges money bin, but ya....I don't give a shit about a couple grand at trade in, I don't have to through hard work.

buy a truck for 60-70K and it takes a shit, if that ruins your financial position, then you make a great point, shouldn't have bought it in the first place.

that doesn't mean I don't care though, I don't want to have to deal with it either, but its not good in life to sit here and worry about shit that hasn't happened yet.

I'm sure you understand, I have a nice truck, runs great, really like it, why worry about it at this point?

I hope a can get some fellatio in my Tundra to offset my losses. :bananadance:

Throw it in neutral and get yourself ready for a full body workout. You’ll need arms for steering and legs to apply adequate brake pressure and don’t shit yourself, keep a fresh pair of undies in the glove. Maybe pack a lunch while you wait for the tow truck along with some beverages, the tow truck guy may need a beverage in this heat.

Some appear to be of the view that the recall notice is bad news. I see the opposite. If something happens, owners now have an acknowledgement of a potentially serious problem - debris in the engine.

I’d wager that any small claims court, if it came to that, would find that Toyota failed to deliver quality goods and that you reasonably relied on Toyota to deliver quality goods assembled with good workmanship. In most jurisdictions, this can even apply outside of the warranty period. I sued Dodge outside of warranty and won.

    Absolutely understand.

If push came to shove and I owned a 22-23 Tundra that was affected by recall I can just go out and buy a new vehicle if needs be. Or revert to driving my trusty old 2007 which I will keep regardless of what I ever do end up buying.

Everyone is different. I’m in my 40’s, secure in my career, live well below my means, I have investments, and a reasonably healthy emergency fund for things like this. What constitutes an actual financial emergency these days is way different than it was 15 years ago for example.

7 all day long. I am at 45k on my 2022 with a 6/22 build date. I have been concerned about it becuase I will get to 60k fast and don't have an extended warranty. Now, I can just wait till it blows up and get everything. I want it to blow at 150k and get a new engine lol.

You can plan on possibly losing power steering and power brakes in the event of catastrophic engine failure. The momentum of the vehicle will still make the broken engine turn over though, it’s not as if the transmission is going to shift itself into park.

You might retain power steering if the battery has enough energy to power the rack, and it might retain power brakes. Not sure. Ask someone who has experienced it.
