The body count on the forum is up to 21 for calendar year 2024.

If looks like 1 or 2 is out of the recall range.

This is my exact sentiment. I’m a big Ford guy. Yota blew it bad!! I planned to keep it for a long time. I’ve dropped like 10k to build it how I want it. I won’t loss sleep over it. Life’s too short. But Yota has lost a customer. Like I mentioned earlier. The Tindra is a drop in the bucket for them. They sold 12 million vehicles last year. What does the Tundra account for ? Like 200k

And that's assuming those crate motors don't have the same defect.

Already did 4 at time of purchase. I will do 5 and 7 until 120k once my warranty is done. 2022 Currently sitting at 44.5k with no major issues outside of recalls and front brakes replaced under warranty.

After 2 years of payments at 2% financing, I'm really not looking to dump it and replace it with something else that will drive my monthly debt up. It's a work truck used for business purposes so it pays for itself in annual mileage. Once my extended warranty is up, I'll reassess the situation and decide what's best. Till then, I'll let Toyota worry about it.

This is a reasonable response. Some of us are concerned and watching to see how it unfolds before jumping in. Most likely as in this poster, and mine it’s someone who hasn’t been added to the recall list yet, and hopes that we can still recoup some cost before it “torpedoes”. But dumping it now (while tempting cause the stress) while having a remedy announcement within the next 6 or so weeks is tough. If it turns out the remedy is a new crate engine and a long ass powertrain warranty. I’d be kinda dwelling on giving that up for a while too, if I pulled the parachute too early. Neither is the wrong answer, it just comes down to how much you can stomach.

what is annoying AF though is the CONSTANT “you’re in denial you Toyota gawk gawker”
    followed with the
“You couldn’t afford a gen 3 you plebe” responses.

Maybe Toyota will rename Burnt Mesquite to Burnt Bearing for 2025. About the same color.

Mine is getting replaced now. For those that have already had theirs replaced, has toyota offered any form of compensation? Extended warranty, or cash for the depreciation on the value?

When you say getting replaced do you mean a buyback/lemon law?

Burnt, smoked... same thing, really. I was using the words from PATundras vehicle info blurb. He calls it Burnt Mesquite.

Not even that. 2023 sales of the Tundra was 125k. But for something that’s a drop in the bucket, the hit to their reputation is going to be huge, and not just for truck buyers. We’ve had two Camrys before I bought the Tundra, and they never saw a service bay. There won’t be a third.

Not that it’s much consolation for those who are getting an engine rebuild, but we all know it’s not the lube tech who will be doing the work.
Yup. Brutal for those who go through it.

On my 5TH Tundra FIRST TRD OFF ROAD 2010 5000k NEW trans and rear diff followed , no questions asked -warranty, I am a Collision guy by trade , we replaced Tundra boxes for the dealer for spot rust on the underside of the floor , This is Northern Ont, Canada we have snow and salt 4 month a year rust happens , replaced T 100 frames for rust and boat loads of Tacoma frames well after warranty was gone. My Point i rather be aligned with a manufacture who faces issues head on
and always in the spot light while doing so . Toyota dose it it better then Avery other brand Hands down, 5.7 Rams every one of the Mother F@#$%#$@ have an engine issue tick tick tick , no oil up top, front diffs snap so often they stock stems shafts on the shelf, Ford 5.4 heads please , Raptors snapping crankshafts off left and right , last kick at Ford how about their early years Cruse control switches catch fire while parked in the garage , only manufacture that's Killed people when the cars are locked and parked inside while you sleep burnt the house and everyone in it.
GM the worst of them all , has been guilty twice for inside senses to re call VS wrongful death , and twice they choose roll the dice and pay in court then re call death traps. Nissan stopped making the Titan with the cummings talk about lemons

Toyota will make it Right, they make mistakes who is perfect ? nobody This is a tried and proven motor till now its oil leak in high mile Lexus modules had been the only issue. Dose it suck ass YES it dose what's would be worse is they dragged their feet or done nothing at went to court and waited for a buy back ruling, while who ever had this issue goes without any action while court dragged out. everyone has a right to their opinion i am not saying anyone is wrong everyone has a right to feel as one will , my opinion is mine and mine alone I live LIFE looking for a positive, like my wife cooking , keeps the dog from begging for our human food.
    Happy Tuesday

I really hope the owners that are affected make Toyota earn their reputation. Don't give them the benefit of the doubt, make them make it right. It's the only way forward to keep Toyota's standards high, the consumer must hold them accountable to the finish line. Your reputation should be earned day after day.

One thing I will say about that pile 'o parts: Yes, it could all be better organized and neater, but if the mechs are any good they will get it back together properly. I swapped a cam in my Z28 in my tiny one car garage once upon a time. Parts were everywhere. Valve covers, intake manifold, air cleaner, rocker arms, valve springs, spark plugs, camshafts, ac parts, front cover, timing chain, timing gears, optispark, hoses, exhaust... A fair number of the parts were spread out on an inside light duty (bicycle) workbench. A buddy came over and took one look and said, "that car is never going to run again". I bet him a case a beer... and a week later I was drinking it.

What I worry about in these shops is all the other activities going on and stuff maybe going missing. Also worry about the mechs. Seems like there would be a good learning curve to get good at it so first ones through might be risky. Then once they are good at it, they should get faster and do a good job. But at some point, I can see them getting bored with it all and maybe start making mistakes. In any case, a real mess.

Although I hope and pray we all get long blocks or full crate engines, so all that extra complexity is removed and they are built in a cleaner environment. Let the dealers just do an R&R. Much simpler and faster.

Brainwashed and/or blind loyal. You both work for Toyota? Please post pics of your engine torn apart at your local dealer btw. Interested to know if you will still be in denial afterwards. Cheers

And on top of that every part is gaining dust and debris, just to magnify the already ever-present issue. none of these techs are engine builders. It's a lost cause.

To add injury to insult, they are working for warranty labor wages and if job isn’t done within specified time frame, they work for free. So, do you think short cuts will be taken? But the brainwashed community will say, “it’s ok, it’s covered under warranty….again” and “it’s a Toyota, it will still run fine with missing parts and bolts, no biggie”

There is the DogRunner2 we all have come to know…defiant and blind loyal to the end

So, you think there has been just a couple of failures outside the recall? Man, Toyota must send you some really good weed. When your done eating Doritos and Twinkies, take a look at the engine failure forum where more failures were reported today alone, with one being a ‘24 with 2200 miles. Yeah, he lost power with his son in tow and thankfully made it to safety.

I haven’t cried since last time I watched Forrest Gump at Jenny’s grave, but I have conversely laughed at your posts. Many of us bought the Tundra not because we thought it was better than the second truck we wanted, but because of perceived reliability. Now, we know that the second truck is more reliable and better looking…I.e., @TundraLaw and his new AT4X. I wonder if you will ever post again after your engine fails? Nonetheless, good to hear from you. Cheers.
