Toyota has no clue how many have been affected. Toyota also said they implemented an improved cleaning process at the engine plant well over a year ago. Of course, we now know that was either a lie and a smoke screen, or they did implement and it was ineffective. Frankly, Toyota hasn’t done anything but lie to the people, which recently went public and then falsely state hybrids and post recall ‘23-‘24’s are safe and void of the recall.

Whether it’s a design or process defect, it’s real and has not been remedied. Therefore, any ‘22-‘24 units both hybrid and non-hybrid are ticking time bombs. For those that disagree, it’s denial.

I actually partied with some folks that were Yakuza at Tokuyama Beach. 1980. I was walking to the beach beer kiosk, this guy dropped his lighter. I picked it up as he was reaching down. His sleeve came up and saw full tats on his arm. I got invited to sit with him and his "friends". All his friends were missing the end of their right hand pinky. Yakuza thing. Full body tats. Told them I was a Marine. We...partied. Bucket list event big time. Got wasted with Yakuza. Ha!

OK, I'll play. At the time of the recall notice Toyota estimated 824 warranty claims were related to this issue out of over 230,000 Gen 3 Tundras sold. How many of those sold trucks were well over the 30-40K miles average failure range with no problems? How many have documented 100K miles with no failure? Don't get me wrong, I'm not pleased with this recall at all, and my truck isn't even included...yet. But I still like the odds that my truck won't have a failure. If it does, so be it, I'll deal with it then. There are countless things I worry about more than this.

More than likely, yes. Contacting dealers as we speak. Life is too short to worry and have paranoia about an object that is replaceable and more importantly a safety issue.

100%. Life is too short. That’s exactly the way I felt about my F150 last year. It makes no sense to be loyal to a brand

What he said. And if you’re one of those roughly 1000 people, I’ll bet you’d think differently. On the spreadsheet on this forum, one owner had their engine tank at 179 miles, and there are a few with multiple failures. If you know you have manufacturing contamination, you rebuild a blown up engine, and then it fails again, can you really wonder why many of us are skeptical that contamination is the root cause? If thinking the hiring of 350 more engine builders is telling us something. It’s certainly not because sales of the Tundra have skyrocketed in the past month.

I’ll play too :) Toyota estimated and does not know how many units are affected. The 824 number is merely a warranty claim number Toyota stated within the 102,000 recalled units. Now, based on the recent lying scandal where the Toyota president bowed in shame, and the fact that Toyota states in the recall they implemented better cleaning processes at the engine plant are both very shady and manipulative tactics. Many post recall production date failures have occurred, and with some customers getting multiple defective replacement short blocks. This better cleaning process statement is a feel good smoke screen. You know, fasten your seatbelts with seats in the upright position… yep, that won’t help in a collision at 500mph but the goal is the false sense of security from the airline.

You’re loyal to Toyota, I respect that. However, I encourage those like yourself that are in denial to objectively look at the facts and not dismiss how Toyota has mishandled the engine failures and strategically left out hybrid post recall production ‘23-‘24 units. Toyota wants to keep selling these things to people like me while knowing they are unsafe and should have a stop sale, like the ‘22-‘23 states. Nope, they know the risk but don’t care and will extend the recall probably around January 2025 to include all ‘22-‘24 models, hybrid and non-hybrid.

Lastly, you say you’re not worried about this due to countless other things you worry about more. That sounds confident and bold, but respectfully if you lose power while going 75mph with those you care about aboard and can’t pull over, I promise that will give you something to worry about. If not, the young inexperienced tech ripping apart your truck and spreading the parts and engine all over the service bay will. Now, if neither of those things worry you, I need to speak to you on a personal level as you have apparent superhero mental intestinal fortitude and I want some lol.

Dude, you are way to hyperbolic and Karen-ish for me. I stated on another similar thread that I wish I would have considered a Ram 1500 instead of my Gen 3, but brand loyalty bit me in the ass. It is what it is....just another vehicle out of dozens I've owned...and it won''t be my last. Gotta take the bad with the good, and don't stress over it. It''s not like a child of mine is dying.

Thanks Matt, I appreciate the compliments. I haven’t been called hyperbolic in a while lol. Cool.

Like you, brand loyalty has bit me in the ass too. And you’re right, I’ve had some damn good Land Cruisers, 4Runners, LX470’s, etc. Also, it may seem like I’m stressed but I’m really not. I’m simply in tune with the reality of the situation and am thus dissecting and interpreting intel as most owners are attempting to do. Therefore, based on the research and facts I have compiled, it’s my simple belief the engine has a serious design flaw. To change a design flaw which is under a safety recall mind you, is a great undertaking. Toyota tried to appease current owners via defective short block replacements, while still not identifying a root cause. That leaves a sour taste in my mouth and frankly, I’ve lost faith in Toyota. Even Toyota hasn’t identified affected units and has no clue how many have and will fail. This leads me to conclude that since there is no identified fix yet, all ‘22-‘24 units both hybrid and non-hybrid will bite the dust. When is dependent on abuse, towing, oil change frequency, debris amount, etc. Those that haven’t failed yet have been lucky, but under current defective design flaw conditions with debris as a side effect, it’s improbable that any of our trucks built to date will enjoy a long, problem free engine lifecycle. Cheers :oldglory:

Woa. Hope you have a strong magnet mounted to the front bumper to pick-up the nails and sheets rock screws. Can't image what a tire blow would do to ya.

Loyalty was gone 40+ years ago and at dealer level, not manufacturer. It's an illusion carried forward by prior generations.

I just literally got of the phone with the sales department at Stevenson's East Yota dealership which is maybe 10 minutes away. I pretended that I was a prospective buyer for a new Tundra and wanted to upsize from my 22 Frontier. I brought up the current recall. I was assured that there are no "bearing" issues with the 24's. I mentioned that there are documented failures with the 24's. "We aren't aware of that". "We have four 24's not affected by the recall." Me..."How many Tundra's getting short blocks at your service bays now?" Crickets.then.. "We have four 24's for sale not affected by the recall." I hung up.

Toyota sales are very strong. I think Tundra sales were the highest per month since 2007. They make a lot more than Tundra motors there so it's more than likely a business is good scenario vs they need more people to build V6TT's.

Sorry I upset you, was not my intent. We dont control this, I try to keep my BP lower by not worrying about things I dont control. I dont feel hosed, not yet, maybe I will in the future, maybe I wont. I dont think this issue is nearly as simple as it sounds and I bet a full LSS project is going on not a “Kaizen”. :)

The fact you typed more text than I care to read is proof you worry about this more than me. Keep up what ever crusade you are on. My life is good even with a truck that might implode tomorrow.

Same here. Crusade is a great word. I've been through lemon laws and two sets of end of the earth bearing issues. Turns out, they were not end of the earth at all.

So as a former Intel guy, assuming you may be also, I agree with dissecting and some interpretation. However, I dont think there are many facts here at all, at least not that we are privy to. I do believe the situation is likely more complicated than stated, it always is. If it is a design flaw that will be interesting to see what they do, the safe bet is this, Toyota has about 30 actuaries, likely from PwC or EY, determining risk right now. Then they will develop a plan based on a solid LSS project and the actuarial data. But we just dont have any real facts yet, even the data contained in this forum is not actionable or accurate to any large degree. But yeh a design flaw will be a bitch ;). I’ll drive mine until I can’t, no one is giving me decent money for it anyway. But Im going to choose to not give two shits because my BP is good right now. :)

Sure, but the EY or PwC memos to the Toyota board won't be public information. Calculating their residual risk will determine the path forward, which the board will eventually approve. If it's a design flaw, it will be a very interesting financial / decision exercise for the C-level executives. They could also involve their insurance carrier if it gets really bad.

At this point, a combo of #3 and #7. I already bought a 7 year/140,000km warranty, so am now really glad I purchased that. I made sure to get a slightly earlier oil change done at 8,000km and a second at 12,500km. Next time I do I'll do a blackstone kit on it and we'll see what they find.

Precious cargo.... Im in the same boat, and i love my tundra Pro, I hope they offer a new long block as an option. What they really should do is give us all a like for like trade in on a new model.

The threads are a lot to sort through, I'll try to paraphrase- Bearings being consumed in theory will show up in the oil analysis. Silver is an indicator to watch. Could be present in the first change but should decline. In any event, a low or 0 rating is better than a high rating. My personal opinion is that at this point the oil test is probably a waste of time as it's not actionable. You can't go to your service manager and ask for a new motor based on a Blackstone test. The test will either cause comfort or paranoia if you're inclined. Nevertheless, I'm having one run. As far as the test, go online to Blackstone and they will send you a sample kit which is a bottle in a bottle. You fill the white one and send it back in the black one. You can either gather the sample when draining from the bottom or the top. I have a tube and go through the dipstick with a pump. A very clean way to do it and you don't have to be under the vehicle. Hope that helps.
