You may or may not be able to find an online retailer that offers what I recommend, but then again, I may be the only one packaging them this way. If I knew of another independent dealer like myself that was local to you, I would tell you, but I honestly don't know of any independent dealer that packages systems the way I do.

Earlier this week I replaced a competitors filter with this over-sized Iron filter weighing in at just under 300 lbs. dry. It's on a well that feeds 3 homes.

@Rex Kramer I live in NY which supposedly has some of the best water in the country from what Ive heard. I was on well water and moved into a house with city water. To me it has a strong chlorine smell and I am also concerned with fluoride (not sure if I should be I just heard bad things about it.

Can you recommend an under the sink filter system to help with my issues? I don't think I can swing the cost of a whole house system at this time but to be honest I am not sure how much they run $$.

I do have a filter on my shower head which seems to help.

Edit, I just read about the Multipure Aquaversa, I will be ordering today. Thank you

Hey Rex, I like to wash my car at home but the water is nasty and it's way too hot here. The water dries instantly on the vehicle and you're left with hard spots all over the vehicle Do these systems cover that kind of volume or are they meant for inside use only?

Edit: and would that even help?

A whole house water softener will help, but you really need deionized water for a clean spot free rinse. Deionizers are point of use filters, you do not drink the water or use it in the house - it's very aggressive.

Hi Rex! I was just in the mechanical room and noticed this is the second one of these tanks this 20 year old house has had (old one is still sitting in the shed). What’s the life span and purpose of these air tanks on a water well system?

That looks like a bladder / pressure tank.

Hey Rex appreciate the good read!

    Here is my scenario:

City water no filtration, city sends out alerts that our water sucks. I see rust in the shower.

I do have a 9 yr old watts premiere RO system for drinking. BUT, it seems like all I do is replace filters? I know you don’t like RO, sorry but I really like the RO my city water is crap, the Vet says don’t give city water to dog! I think my RO system needs a new tank because it doesn’t produce much water I know I need new filters too but not sure if I just need a new whole system?

So what would be better whole house filter or water softener? And what would you recommend? What kinda budget should I be looking at?

    thanks !!

    Aw, who deleted Rex's profile?

Anyone else water softener savvy? Brand new Fleck 5600sxt, power is on, automatic or manual regen initiated but the cams/gears in the back never turn. They stay in the "service" position instead of moving the "backwash" position, with a hum from the motor until the controller errors our (about 6 minutes) with Error Code 0, and I have to unplug to reset. I've tried a "soft reset" per the manual so far, will try a "hard reset" but I'm thinking my problem is more mechanical, motor not advancing the gears or something binding them up.

    Hi there Rex!
    Ah ya lame deal!
We just got a water sample test and need to install a water softener. I was about to ask Rex for some insight. Oh well!

Hi Rex. I am getting ready (this next week) to send my water off to a National Lab for testing. When I get the results back, can you help me identify what I need to clean-it-up? I am on a well with a softener. We get orange clothes during washing. We have no taste/smell issues.

    THanks.

Can you recommend a brand/model for a water softener? Estimated hardness of 14+ grains from the rocky mountains. We are a family of 5 with a few that like to take baths or long showers. 50 gallon water heater is 3 years old and already showing signs of sediment crust - "pop, thump". Expect to be in the home 5 or so more years. Cost is a factor, unfortunately. We just dropped $950 on a new dishwasher.

Reasons for wanting to soften water are dry skin and short appliance life.

Edit: The cold water to the kitchen faucet is on a dedicated pipe pre-softener, so I'm not worried about sodium content within reason. My home had a water softener at some point in the past.

Do you have an expansion tank for the water heater? I have both the expansion tank and the softener.
Quite often the popping from the heater is from high pressure which is affected by the water temp, not just supply line pressure.

    Yes to the expansion tank.

I ended up installing a whole house filter and a 48,000g softener. Pex is a godsend to us DIY types.

Middle blue pipe services the outdoor spigot and the cold side of the kitchen faucet. Right pipe is supply.

Hi Rex, I have a water question and thank you ahead of time for this post and your time! I bought a camp and just had a well drilled. I had the water tested and it came back with very high uranium, elevated arsenic. Can’t remember everything else from the test, but the PH was 8. I started researching and am trying to keep the costs down due to the price of the well (we drilled 580ft and fracked twice, definitely was not expecting that). Anyways, I read about ion exchange and RO systems. My wife wants to do a whole house system, but I know cost can be prohibitive with the RO system. Though I did find this system on Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007K1FDJA?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I am pretty handy and figure I could install this myself and save some money. Do you think this system would take care of the uranium and arsenic. If not what would be a better alternative and if possible something I could buy on a budget? This is just my summer house so don’t want to spend major $$, but I also want to keep my family safe. If you need anymore info let me know and I will see if I can find the test results. Thanks!
