    Hahaha.... That's nothing

Back to the topic at hand though, while I have nothing against other brands, I've been an RTIC guy for a few years now. Have the 65 in tan, 110 in Blue, and two of their PVC Duffel Bags (md and lg). Oh, and also a few 64oz insulated bottles/growlers for the local breweries!

SoCal.... This isn't for my house (thank god) but I'm headed out to Palm Springs and surrounding desert areas w/ my son tomorrow for a weekend of wheeling and mountain biking.

I heard it was 114 degrees out there on Monday (while it was a mere 96 at my house).

They are all pretty close now in performance. The key to making ice last a long time is the conditions of the cooler. If you keep it in the back of your truck in 100 degree weather the ice isn’t gonna last more than a few days. If you keep the cooler out of the elements and even prechill it before you know your gonna need it to last several days it will help a lot.

So, while I was working frac in west Texas, supervisors truck had a yeti. The big bad one, stupid expensive. It held ice for at least a week. There was some story about how it’s supposed to have some kind of “dry ice break-in” process... idk what that’s all about but it worked like a dream.
I won’t spend that kind of money on something that will most likely get stolen so I have the big Ozark, with out wheels. As long as it stays out of the sun (inside truck), and the guys latch the damn thing, it will work just as good. If it’s in the truck bed I’ll get three days out of the ice.
Just my opinion- the ozark is where it’s at bang for buck.

You all do pre chills on the coolers right? That helps a lot in this game of high end coolers.

    Still rolling stock baby....
I have a tan RTIC that I bought a few years ago after they lost the law suit with yeti. They clearance out old stock before the redesign started to ship. Its the big 110 model, never have used it but for $100 shipped I could not pass on it. Got to use in the event of a extended power outage.

Heck Yeah... I buy my ice the night before and throw in an extra bag. Next morning I remove all the bags, drain the melt and add my beverages. Then I break up the ice, open the bags and add it back in.
I also like to add in a few frozen water bottles. They melt slower than the crushed ice and you can drink them on the last day of the trip, unlike the ice that is floating around w/ all the dirty hands in it constantly.

I've got a Yeti Tundra 35, and a 55 Quart Igloo Sportsman and a 20 qaurt igloo sportsman. All were gifts. The two igloos from Sam's Club have features that are superior to the Yeti. Better handles and latches and a larger and tethered drain plug. I've beat ll of them to hell and back. I prefer the igloos to the Yeti head to head, without even factoring in the huge price difference.

Nice, thanks for the review bro. I was leaning towards getting the Igloo Trailmate due to the big wheels it has but the lady wanted the pretty blue so guess who won? Haha.

What are your thoughts on Pelican coolers? Anyone have one, are they any good? I can get a decent deal on one.

I've heard many a good thing about them. I personally had gone with Yeti just because I preferred their overall "image" but the Pelican seemed and read pretty similar.
I now have a fridge, so, so much for all that stuff.

    So how is this done?

Last year I filled two coolers to the brim with ice. Next day I added stuff and took out ice as displacement. Is that how youd do it or did I not do it correctly? I tried it since ice was free from my dads work.

I've seen people fill it to chill, then dump that ice and re-start with ice and stuff, but that seemed like a waste. I donno.
I think how you did it would be how I would do it.

as a pelican employee and owner of a couple coolers I can tell you nothing but good things about the quality, durability, and efficiency of them. but I will never argue that they are affordable because they certainly aren't. I got one cooler through the scrap process here because it didn't pass the visual QC because of some decent scratches that it got in its cooling process but that has no impact on the insulation or durability so I use it as my camp cooler. the other one I got through the in house case sale where the employees in the building can pay something like 50%-75% off so I got a $400 cooler for $100

Day before you need it stick one bag of ice in. When it’s time to load it and use it just drain the water out and leave what ice is left to mix with your fresh ice. The inside of the cooler will then be much much cooler than if you were to just toss ice in it hot and everything will stay cool longer.
