You still looking at motorcycles? What would you have picked for a decent dual sport? My cousin is looking, and i have no doubt your choice is easier than mine. Which was xr600.

    I'm always looking. :spy:

Not sure I'd do a dual sport as I'm not super adventurous and have no desire to wheelie or jump. Dual sports always struck me as more of a dirt bike that just happens to be legal on the road, and I tend to the that capability swapped. More of a road bike that happens to be able to handle mild off road. Still haven't seen anything that trips my trigger more than the 2022+ Honda CB500X. It's priced decent, has an newbie friendly torque/power curve (so linear that it seems falsified), excellent fuel economy, easy and infrequent maintenance intervals, and I actually love the look. If I were going to go crazy I'd look at something like a Tenere 700, or possibly the V-Strom 650, but both are quite a bit larger.

How big is he? The Himalayan is good if you never run highway, but if you wanna push 50-70 MPH it's not a great choice. Price is excellent.

He's 5'10', maybe 200lbs. He's deep inside a suburb, so most of his roads are under 50. But i sent him some articles about the 500x. well, all the cb500's.

Yeah, any of the Honda CB500s would run him around just fine. For comfort I think I'd go with the X for the wind protection and seating position. The F looks cool, but is nekkid in the wind, and the R would kill my back being more hunched over.

So, as ever I'm always drooling over the GFC. It's even more tempting now that I'm in a midsize, because it's a bit less expensive. Still think it's out of budget, but I can dream.

Anyway, I knew they made a topper but I didn't really dig into it or do any research. I did, however, stumble on the video for it, and I laughed. I love that they have a sense of humor.

And in relation to the GFC topper, there's this guy's "review." I put that in quotes because it's just a bunch of whining. The GFC is build minimalist, and the first 30 minutes are just him crying that it's not offered with a thousand choices and accessories. He can't see beyond his own want for glitz to realize that having a thousand options on hand takes capital and would increase the price of all the GFCs, even for those who don't want the fancy sh*t he whinges about.

That said, he has some good points and actually raises enough quality issues that I've never seen with other reviews to give me pause. If what he got is the standard and not a deviation, then I think the topper with a different tent would be a better choice. Nobody has complaints about the topper portion of the GFC, but he shows some pretty unforgivable quality issues in the tent portion. I have the video set to begin 30 minutes in to show what I actually agree are problems.

Saw this guy review a tent that is pretty cool. Might have been tempted prior to getting the RTT, but for anyone on a less extravagant budget (read: smarter with $$$ than me!) it would be a solid option. They have a few sizes and configs, too. He has a link in the video description to the tent on scamazon if you want to support his channel for the info. Don't know him, but very much appreciate his realistic video on the tent. Stumbled on these tents on the forum here, too. Love this forum. :headbang:

Here's some info on the inflatable lounger/couch thing he has. I kinda dig it. Simple, cheap, and kind of a conversation piece if anyone sees you inflate it!

Dude...nice find. I need a tent for my son as he's outgrown our trailer. We have a shelter (the Clam brand) that has the same set-up and it is really nice. Now I have that tent on my Amazon list. Will grab it soon. Thanks forum for helping me spend my money

Right? I only know because there is a Gazelle Tent thread. If I didn't have the RTT, I think it's the route I would have gone.

Pretty crazy some of the stitching issues he points out on the tent. I wonder if they're all like that. @reywcms Is your dad's gfc similar quality?

This is one of the better, though less in depth, reviews on the Tacoma that I've seen. There's some good analysis on who the truck is for, and why it's not glitter bombed with sparkly bits and bobs like all the other manufacturer's trucks. My only criticism of the info/opinions in the review is that they don't do very well clarifying the "bad" stuff they talk about on the truck is only considered bad because most people should really be in a car or minivan. They buy the truck to be able to say they have a truck, and the manufacturers have catered to the car people by watering down their trucks. Toyota trucks are such a small segment of their overall sales that they don't expend the resources to keep up, and wind up building trucks that feel like trucks compared to the vans with beds that other manufacturers produce. Anyway, just though I'd share it here.
