I just got back in the country and noticed I had a @ in this thread about a trade. Ill be honest I didnt read all the missed threads to see what it was about but if anyone needs something feel free to message me and Ill try to help.

I wish I didn't overthink things and my brain didn't go to dark places, but I'm not getting responses for the last coupled days. Called the dealership number on Tuesday so I wouldn't bother the busy guy. I wanted to try and talk to somebody about finance rates, and told the salesman I had been working with the GM to buy the truck. He said that he wasn't sure and would have to check with the GM. Gave my name, told him the guy has my number as he's been working with me for a couple months on this, and he said he'd have him call me. Kept my phone with me and never got a call.

So, when I woke up today at about 11 AM (I'm working nights, don't judge me) I fired off an email asking about the rates and asking for a few things on the new truck. Don't want the front plate holder installed, don't want it run through a soft touch car wash, and asked if he'd shoot me a pic of the truck when it shows up. No response to the email, and still no phone call.

So I popped the VIN in here https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification.html and it's got an update. It shows the selling dealer and a first use date of 11/11/22. It's also not listed on the dealership's site anymore, and it used to be listed as sale pending.

Working this night shift and I have 8 more hours to go, so all I can think are the bad thoughts about if being sold to somebody else. Really hoping I'm just being anxious and paranoid, but I can't help but worry.

I can see them taking it of the website, but the first use date is a small red flag.
When did you tell him you were planning on heading down?

 

Basic timeline:

• On the 8th he gave me to price and the trade via email
• On the 9th I replied that I wasn't super happy on the trade price and asked about wiggle room as we were a couple grand apart for the total
• On the 10th at 2:45 PM he replied stating he didn't have that kind of margin (didn't really address other questions I had) and it kinda felt like a wave off, so at 2:59 PM I responded trying to get info on if my mods were mandatory for that trade price. Explained that if I could pull wheels, tires, and armor I could probably close the gap and be happy.
• No response to that email, but after previous chiding about expecting communications I was patient. Sent a text on the 12th at 10:24 AM asking about the mods and trade in, and at 10:24 responded stating that he wasn't comfortable doing the same trade without the mods but that he forwarded my email to his used car guy who would be back in on Monday. I responded at 10:28 stating that either way I was down to purchase the truck. I wanted and I'd be seeing them shortly after Thanksgiving.
• On the 15th I called the dealership to inquire about the finance rates and was told by the salesman that the GM would call me back.

Sure hope he's got it locked in for you and didn't let someone swoop in and snag it.

 

I haven't heard anything. Last communication from him he was going to let me know what his used car guy said about the mods, and two minutes later I said I didn't care and wanted it. Based on his communication it was implied the truck was still available, and 2 minutes later I said I wanted it. The first use date is also the day before that conversation, so if they sold it the day before....

But, I might just be overthinking. I'm prone to it and I don't trust anyone, so assuming the worst is kind of my default. I hope I'm wrong, but the really slow/nonexistent communication certainly doesn't help things.

So, I downloaded the Toyota app and added the Taco VIN. It shows a service with 5 miles on 11/9/22 with a "4WD Tundra PDI" listed. Guessing a typo for the predelivery inspection. That'd mean that they had the truck all morning before he replied about not having the margin, and when I responded inquiring about the mods/trade. I would think that was a very clear expression of my interest/intent to purchase, and on the 12th he said that he had forwarded my email to his used car guy who wouldn't be back until Monday. That would lead me believe that the truck wasn't sold at that point in time.

However, there are some red flags that make me worry. First, there's the "date of first use" being listed as 11/11/22. Then, there's the fact that the Toyota site is showing that Toyota Care effective date on 11/12/22 and expiring on 11/12/24. Finally, there's the very conspicuous lack of notification about the truck being on the lot.

Having this info, plus free time, and no communication is.... unpleasant.

 

This would have me worried the most, Toyota Care shouldn't start until the day they hand you the keys.

Not saying this is the case here, this GM seems to be legit.
But I have heard recently of dealers "selling" to other dealers making the truck "used" and gouging customers that way. Market adjustments are a lot easier to get away with on used vehicles.

 

If the truck has been sold, whether to another dealership or a customer....
