I don't trust anyone; not just dealerships. The guy I'm dealing with is the GM of the dealership, so I know he's busy. Doesn't change the dwindling window for mod work, but he's not a salesman. Other stuff to do besides getting me info.

The guy has been pretty good. Only thing has been the slow communication and then being a bit snippy about me pressing for details/info to move things along. Beggars can't be choosers if you want a Solar Octane these days. I've just stopped initiating any communication and wait for him as patiently as I can.

Ok, so without much info from the dealer on what my trade in would be, I'm trying to puzzle it out. Kinda. I just want to get an idea of what I might be able to get for it so I can properly plan. I hate last minute stuff, so this is really an exercise to prevent me just going insane.

I pulled up the dealership's site and then looked at used Tundras. This was the closest to what I have (still pretty different) and what they have it priced at. Below the add on their site (name removed to prevent complications) I am also included the 2 damage reports from carfax.

    upload_2022-11-4_7-38-27.jpg

    upload_2022-11-4_7-40-15.jpg

For comparison, my truck is a 2019, TRD Off Road with just about every upgrade shy of leather and a sun roof. Currently just under 40K miles, by the time I get it to the dealership we can say 42K miles for easy math. It's in pretty good shape, meaning no damage, but does have some rock chips here and there. The carfax on their truck does state it was minor/cosmetic

    Primary differences:
    1. Clean Carfax/no accidents
    2. 53,000 fewer miles
    3. 1 year older
    4. LED headlights and any other TRD OR addons
With the vast difference if mileage and my truck's added features, how much more do you think they'll sell my truck for? More importantly to me, how much profit do they have to have in it/how much can I reasonably hope for in trade value?

Here's another they have. It's a Double Cab instead of CrewMax, but has a 23K-ish fewer miles. Still fewer features because it's not the TRD.

    upload_2022-11-4_8-21-58.jpg

Looking at this and the other one they have it's only a $3,000 price difference. Does mileage and damage matter that little, or does the CrewMax add that much value?

And for sh*ts 'n' giggles, here's a Pro that is actually the closest thing to what my truck is as far as options, and really similar mileage.

    upload_2022-11-4_8-29-25.jpg

Now, I'm not dumb and I know they won't sell my truck for the price of a Pro, even with my mods. I'm actually shocked by how much the Pros are going for (this is the cheapest one they have listed).

I don't know what any of this means for what I might be able to get on trade, and that's the part I really want to know. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I don't wanna be lowballed and then see my truck listed for a stupid high price over what I got for it and be kicking myself.

Maybe you posted it already, are you looking to trade it in at the dealer in TX where you get the Taco or do it before the TX pick up?

At the dealer where I will get the Taco. My Tundra is my only vehicle, so I can't trade it before taking possession of the new truck.

@mike220022 You work at a dealership. Can you shed any light on the previous posts/questions? How much over trade in is a used truck usually priced?

I'm not too familiar with trading in vehicles and prices, especially current used markets. If I had to rough ball park it I would imagine high 30's to low 40's. I could be off a bit though

I was estimating low. I think it would probably be in the 40's though

I am hoping. I'd love it if the difference between my trade and the OTD price on the Taco was sub $8,000, but I don't think they'll be that nice. MSRP for the Taco as I want it equipped, including the shipping and the charge for Solar Octane, should be just shy of $52,000. They'd have to give me $44K+ to hit that and then sell it for more than that. I can hope, but I also don't think it'll happen.

If you're correct and they give me something like $40K-$42K then I'm struggling at the loss on the mods. I know I won't get what I paid for them, but I feel like that kind of a trade offer isn't giving me anything for them at all. At that point I'd want to pull them and either sell or give them to forum members rather than letting a dealership have them for free. Trouble is that they guy hasn't really been willing to discuss numbers until the Taco side of it is nailed down. I understand it, but if it goes too long it eats all the time that I could use to pull mods off the truck. I've still got my stock wheels and tires, exhaust, skid, and suspension. Only thing I can't actually take off the the truck myself is the suspension.

    That's a good point.

maybe when some more details get figured out, might want to start swapping stock parts back on and selling.

That's the plan. I just can't get the info.

Last convo the Taco should be finishing production on the 7th, and he thinks he'll have it to his lot by the 15th. I'm off the 9th-15th, work nights 16th-22nd, off from 6AM on the 23rd-29th. I'd like to pick it up as soon as possible, and with travel time that is looking like it'll be around Black Friday. If I don't get any info on what kind of value I'm going to get for the truck/mods, I might have to push that out until my next week off in December. Not sure if pushing it into a new month will make them less friendly on pricing, or if they will let idiots test drive it while it's on the lot for a month. Might just have to haul tools and stock parts with me and take the mods off in their parking lot if I don't get a straight answer in time.

Small update. Got some texts; Accessory requested, and and he is expecting the Taco around the 19th. He wanted to get together early this week to "do all the things", but I'm working through today. Hoping we can hash it all out tomorrow so I can determine how much prep I need to cram in the next 7 days.

I know I have to get all my crap out of the truck, get my bed rack off, get it washed, and detailed inside. That's the best case scenario if what he can give on trade warrants leaving the mods on it. If the trade amount is too low, then I have to pull off my Dirty Deeds exhaust, RCI Sliders, engine, transmission, and fuel tank skids, shift knob, wheels and tires. The suspension I can't pull, but I'll push for extra if that is staying on it.

Absolute worst case, if we are just too far apart on numbers, I'll reluctantly move on and work with a local MSRP dealership to try and get a white one. This would 100% be smarter financially for a few reasons.
    1. No extra charge for the special paint. ~$450 savings
    2. 1/4 the travel distance and no hotels or food as I have family in the "local" area. $1000~$1200 savings.
    3. Can be done in a single day, two if I take it easy. My personal time is valuable. My employer pays extra for it in the form of overtime. Using that value; saving multiple days buying local vs going to TX is roughly a $1000 value.

Oof. Calculating that out I'm basically willing to pay $2400-$2650-ish dollars for the quick acquisition and the Solar Octane color.

Oh it absolutely is, and I'm stoked. I want the Solar Octane, and the speed of this deal is unmatched. I could absolutely get on at MSRP local and save money, but there'd be a wait and it'd be White or MGM. I've found way too many MSRP dealers to consider those mark ups that people pay, and I can only think those people just don't look around. Within 400 miles I found several. They just can't do the color or the speed and I'm willing to pay the travel expenses for that.

I make poor financial decisions because I can. I'm single, likely to remain so, no kids, and have no other debt. I splurge on the vehicle front because I like having them. Purely selfish choices, but I'm also not beholden to anyone.

Huh. I just got a text from a Wyoming number that I don't recognize that says "Ihave a TRD Pro Tacoma in Solar Octane available. Call for more details."

    Am I being pranked?

Some internet searching lends credibility to the text. I'll have to make the call and see, but I'm kinda hoping it doesn't pan out because I'd feel like an absolute dirtbag if I put the guy through all the last few weeks just for me to find it close to home.

Oh for sure, and if it plays out that way I would absolutely find one of the guys on TW to recommend to him. Or, I'd see if @RobertD or @Squatting Pigeon had somebody to refer. The dick part would be because he submitted my accessory request.

Got more info on the text. It's 4 hours away and expected by the end of the month. I'll have to call him to see if it's an MSRP deal or if they'd gouge.

As of this moment, my plan is still to go to Texas and purchase that truck.

He will make more not selling the truck to you lol

Just get what you want at the price that works for you. Let him know if you go elsewhere, but he won't blame you for skipping a 2 day drive if it'd the same truck.

I get that, but it's kinda my personal moral compass at this point. I've essentially committed so long as the trade works. Backing out will feel dirty, even if he has no worries with it.
