Yeah, currently it is April for a GFC, and that's fine by me. I won't be camping before then with a RTT anyway. SLC is close enough to unload the thing pretty readily too.

Yeah you’re in a good spot to sell camp things, so I wouldn’t worry much.

Just FYI, I don’t have any whistle at all. I’ve driven quite a bit on Interstate at 70+ and get no whistle.

If you think the GFC lead time is bad, the RedTail RTC is at 19 months.

I would definitely go with the gfc. I mentioned them earlier in this thread, I believe. My only hangup, and it’s not a huge deal, would be relocating the shark fin so it’s not under the tent.

while the RoofNest Condor Overland does have some build QA issues, I have corrected most. It’s a decent design and once the QA issues are corrected, it works well. I do think there’s better which is why I’m on the reservation list for a RedTail RTC. Showed it to the wife who immediately said, that’s what I want. So the RoofNest only has to get me through the next 19 months then I’ll move it to my son’s truck and install the RedTail on the Tundra.

BTW, I’m not saying that having to correct QA issues in a new tent purchase is acceptable. I’m just a few steps ahead of @AzureNightmare and pushed forward. I do think he’s on solid ground with his thinking.

What kind of rack are you on?

Yup. If they made a GFC style shell I would consider them, but they only do the huge long camper and I won't do a roof rack. The flex between the bed and cab rules that out for me... and the price.

    Carbon fiber ain't cheap either.

Luckily, I have a 2019 so no shark fin.

My rack is a KB Voodoo mid height (14 inches).

Actually, RedTail makes a 90” and the big 110” RTC. The 90” is in the same size as the GFC so the overhang will be identical without needing a roof rack on the cab.

I went with the 10" on mine, so I wonder if it's just the perfect height for the whistle. Not that it matters much, as all the other issues are frustrating enough that I think I'm just going to push for a refund.

I didn't know the RedTail had two sizes, so that is kinda cool. If I was not already out dollars on a below roof bed rack I would consider it, but once all the cost is figured I think I can get into a GFC for less than the RedTail.

You could be right. Perhaps the 10” rack is the perfect height for the air trail to come over the cab and hit a whistle point.

I think the RedTail RTC is crazy expensive but hey, need something to spend the kids former inheritance on :). It sounds like the GFC may be a better value dollar for dollar. However, what do I know? I thought the RoofNest Overland would be a great RTT as well and look how that turned out. Has anyone on the forum reviewed the GFC?

FWIW I have the same rack with no whistle, but I do have a different tent.

Like I said before, carbon fiber isn't cheap.

I am fairly sure somebody somewhere had a GFC, but I cannot remember. I'd have to go searching for it.

Yeah, I don't think it's the rack. It is the passenger side and it's higher up if my hearing isn't lying.

I gotta say, I was super mad with the @Caliraisedled rack condition and expected to get run around and blown off, but they were quick to respond once I was talking to the right people and very much on top of keeping me in the loop of what steps they were taking to prevent these kinds of things from happening again. Overall, pleased and would do business with them again.

I had figured the roofnest situation would be a much faster and easier process because of previous interactions I had before the purchase, and I was completely wrong. I had my expectations completely backwards for these two companies.

In hindsight I think that RoodNest is a small outfit consisting of maybe 5-6 people with a strong marketing plan. They can control the reviews on their site and Facebook. However, after some digging I noticed that they don’t have a company Google account where they cannot control the reviews. I read somewhere but don’t remember where that someone mentioned that they closed their Google account due to bad reviews. Don’t know if this is true or not, but that’s the gossip.

At least I have a useable tent now so I can only complain so much.

Well, I sent that shortly after 8 AM, and it is now after 1 PM. My patience is gone, I am tired of being ignored, and I have just sent them a request for a full refund. If they try to ding me with a restocking fee I will be pulling all the stops and going into full blown asshole mode. I'll make it my personal mission to do as much PR damage as humanly possible to their company and if I can get it in the media in anyway I will. I. Am. Done.

personally I would give them a bit more time to respond. As a principal in multiple businesses, it can take longer than 5 hours to process through the email inbox.

Ah, and as of 2:05 PM I get a response with an apology and a covid excuse. How odd that I have multiple ignored emails over the two weeks, and this morning, but as soon as I email saying I'm done and I want my money back *POOF* magically the guy is back in the office. Awfully convenient, no?

I wouldn't think so. I just had it a couple weeks ago, and I made sure my work was handed off and handled in my absence. The kicker is that he says he is still waiting on the instructions that were only a couple days out back on the 11th. So not only was there no communication, but they blew by their own deadline on getting me the instructions. I just don't have any faith in this company and therefore none in the product.

    Lots of shenanigans.
The GFC’s are badass! They were out of my price range but still a sweet setup

One thing all this has made me do is reevaluate things and double check my planned spending. In doing so I have found that I think the money from my RS1 sale would be wasted on a motorcycle, so it is now in the pool for resolving this stuff. I have 3 options at this point.
    1. Either work with RN to get the tent I have working (not appealing), or get a refund and get a different RTT.
    2. Get a refund and buy an enclosed trailer to haul my RZR and work with a buddy and his father in law to build the front to be a partial camper setup.
    3. Get a refund and combine it with the previous motorcycle money and get a GFC.

I was in the same boat. Wrote them off due to cost. After some soul searching I think getting a motorcycle would benefit me very little and so those funds with the money back from my RTT would put it reach. With the budget being there now, I have to say it's a really attractive option. Plus, it'd give me an excuse to go see Montana a little bit. I've never been there.

Dude, this is exhausting :). I’ve settled into mine and I’ve accepted it with its shortcomings, but I feel for you. Utterly exhausting having to go through all this.,why can’t it be like buying a candy bar, opening it and enjoying it. (I no longer eat sugar so a candy bar is my utopia.). Is RN willing to refund you? I looked on BBB and they had a complaint where a guy wanted a refund and they fought him. Personally, I say get the refund and grab a GFC. The quality should be far superior.

My request for a refund was ignored and the response I got was the covid apology and another promise of detailed instructions. I responded to that email within 10 minutes of him sending it and was clear the ship has sailed and I want a refund. Back to crickets at this point.
