Bummer to see the QC issue. Looks pretty good otherwise. I'll definitely be checking that before I install. I don't want to get it installed just to find out I need to get it replaced/repaired. Definitely keep us posted on what Roofnest says about it.

Presumably you can drill out the pop rivets and replace with a screw?

    Slightly disappointing for certain.

I agree, but waiting to hear back from RoofNest first for guidance. They’re normally pretty quick answering emails but I assume they are trying to figure out how to respond on this one. They may also be investigating if this is an isolated case or affects many.

Ive had good luck with getting responses from them as well, so I hope you get an update soon. With the nature of it you may be right, and add in the holidays... I'd expect a bit of a delayed response.

Ok, heard back from RoofNest. They are stepping up and owning the problem. That’s a good thing and I can tell they are a little embarrassed. They admitted that the rivets on the awning pole bracket need to be drilled out, flip the bracket and then Re-attach. Understanding this is an annoying task, they:

    • Offered to send me all the supplies to do this. I declined this offer since I already have a rivet gun.
    • They offered a $200 discount/refund for the trouble which I accepted.
Once I get the rivets out, I will evaluated to determine the best fastener for reattachment.

On a different note, the Son and I did take it out camping and it is very comfortable. He is a big 6’4” guy and there was plenty of room for the 2 of us.

for power, we used a small Jackery 160, the smallest one they make. It ran the LED lights inside the tent for several hours, charged both our phones over night and ran a sound maker all night. All of this only used 40% of the battery.

Overall a good initial trip and with the exception of the awning pole bracket being installed backwards, I am pleased with the tent.

That sounds like a satisfactory solution to me. I have none of the tools, so if mine is the same I'll have to go with option one. No offense, but I hope you're the only one that has this issue!

Yea, I hope it’s just me as well. Hopefully it was just the teenager assembling the tent was not paying attention while he/she was riveting the bracket.

So, aside from the bracket issue, it sounds like everything else about the tent is good. How is the sleeping pad in it?

Yes, so far everything else is good. The sleeping pad is about a 2” foam pad. It’s more on the firm side but that is exactly how I like it. Spent 2 nights In It so far and was very comfortable. The tent material is fairly thick which blocks out light as well as provides a decent insulation layer. The nights were in the 40’s but inside the tent was comfortable and did not feel cold at all at any point.

BRW, it also comes with a separate “privacy” tent, shoe bags and a mat pad to go under the ladder. I have not messed with the privacy tent. But I believe it’s a simple pop up thing for perhaps changing and such. Not sure if I’ll use it, but it’s still included. Also the shoe bags simply hook on “D” rings on the bottom of the tent on each side of the ladder. I like this mounting option over the track slide on that the other Condor models use.

For some reason I'm not getting notifications on this thread...

Anyway, I like the added stuff from Roofnest. That's part of why they edged out iKamper for me. Even if iKamper is better (NOT saying it is, just a what if) the included bits, free shipping, and American based company are all things that make me question the thousand dollars extra that iKamper charges for the Skycamp 2.0 tent. You get no bags/extras, have to pay for shipping, and I haven't found a single review that doesn't mention the need for more/better padding to sleep in it.

Back on topic-ish, that privacy tent might make for a good shower/toilet room if camp isn't moving for a bit. Could be a place to change clothes if at a body of water and swimming is on the agenda. Heck, could just be used as a camp site place holder if you need to move the camp rig for some reason. I'm personally thinking about an EZ-UP canopy for that exact reason. I would likely only use it for this purpose on trips that the RZR didn't go with, but extra covered space is usually not a bad thing. EZ-UP and the privacy tent might be enough to keep anybody from snooping about your campsite while you go for a drive.

I noticed the different attachment style for the bags too. Not sure I have strong feelings one way or the other on it. It looks like they got rid of the velcro attachments for the rain fly and the hinge flap too. Cannot make it out in the pics how it's attached though. Any insight/closer pics of these points you can share?

They still make roofnest in China, even if the company is American.

As for pricing, the condor overland is 3595 and ikamper mini 2 is 3549 (with more expensive rocky black shell option). Those two are comparable in size. The skycamp 2.0 costs more but it’s a four person tent and can’t fit on a low rack behind a crewmax unless it has significant overhang off the rear end.

Just to be clear - I have no horse in this race. I’m eagerly awaiting further feedback from all of you that purchased the condor overland, as it’s at the top of my list.

Oh, I know it's made in China. Everything is.

The more accurate comparison for the Skycamp 2.0 is the Roofnest Condor XL. It fits better over the bed of the Crewmax, comes with goodies like all Roofnests, and has more space when open than the Skycamp 2.0. As far as the Condor Overland vs the iKamper mini2, the added value of the RN is in it's aluminum construction. The RN Overland doesn't quite have an equivalent in the iKamper line. The aluminum construction is the only reason I'm not rocking the Condor XL. I was willing to sacrifice the size because of that. With iKamper not offering an aluminum fold out, the only thing they had that was a draw for me was the Skycamp and I just would not be able to justify the cost vs the Condor XL.

Also no dog in this fight, as I honestly think that any of the upper tier RTTs are going to be solid quality. I was more just explaining my rationale for not getting the iKamper. My brother has the Skycamp 2.0 because he got one for $2000 barely used, and he loves it. He's got crazy good luck like that.

So, I got permission to use a shop bay at work to get the rack assembled and install the tent. At least that was the plan.

After unboxing the @Caliraisedled bed rack I can definitively say I won't be buying anything of theirs again.

The design is awesome, but the quality control is abysmal. They wrapped everything up really well for shipping and it was all intact, so this is squarely on @Caliraisedled for packaging it up with these defects.

Burrs all over the holes in the side panels, aluminum shavings in the cross bars, 10 of tge 12 powder coated pieces had damaged powder coat in bolt holes or inside edges that couldn't be from shipping. Bad enough to be irritating, but not enough that it's unusable.

This is the deal breaker, though.

It looks like somebody took a f**king hatchet to one of my aluminum cross bars.

    20220108_134944.jpg 20220108_134948.jpg 20220108_134954.jpg 20220108_135450.jpg

This was all under pristine foam wrap and plastic, toward the inside of the other crossbar that it was wrapped up against. Zero chance this didn't happen before it was shipped, so @Caliraisedled your quality control is absolutely unacceptable.

These screw ups are costing me my personal time as I sit here waiting for paint to dry and hoping like he'll the damaged product you sent me isn't compromised in a structural way. I doubt it is at any risk, but it sure as hell doesn't look like it's worth what you're charging either.

    I'm furious.

Pics don't show it well, but it doesn't appear used. Just piss poor quality control. Doesn't matter to me either way, it should never have made it out the door in the condition it's in.

I don't have the space or time to wait. I have to install it as is. I don't have a garage or a place to store this stuff waiting for a fix. Besides, if CRLED cared they wouldn't have let something like this ship.

Edit: that sounded like I was angry at @Wallygator and I am not. I was just saying I have to make do.

Yikes. I’d be mad, too. Does it look to you like that one crossbar could be structurally compromised? Hard to tell how thick the aluminum is in the pics, but those gouges look substantial. Sucks, man. Would love to see @Caliraisedled make it right, but based on that other thread, I don’t think any of us on this forum have high hopes.

Today is not my day. :(

My roofnest when I first opened it:

A bunch of aluminum shavings along the bottom and on the sleeping pad, and the ladder has worn holes in the rain fly. Didn't even install it, and hoping they'll make it right.

    This day blows.

What do you think could have caused the shavings? I see the hinge has scuff marks, but I wonder what could have caused that in the packaging...all folded up.
