Has anyone installed a 110 outlet in the bed?
What do I need to power these items?
    • charging ports
    • small space heater w/ auto shut off
    • electric blanket
    • Small Bluetooth speakers
Some might say to get a pop-up or travel trailer. I've been down that road before and am not interested in another at this time. I like my agility.

Any guidance would be great. I assume I should start with a supplemental battery...or two. @Spvrtan has a supplemental battery setup

Here is a quick solution. Only issue I would have is the possibility of draining your battery overnight and being totally screwed in the morning. A way to get around this is having a second battery, mount it under the bed in the wheel well, and have an isolation switch from the truck. Deep cycle RV batteries at wally world is around 79.00 and are pretty good. Disconnect switch at wally world is around 6.00. Then you could do the math on what heater or whatever you want to run will draw and go from there on what size inverter you want and what size battery(s).

Another option is buying one of these. I use my generator (honda 3000Ui Handi) more for everyday stuff than camping.

A generator would be too noisy for me. My work truck had an inverter I could run power tools off of

I want something quiet that can power my heat. In doing much stationary camping so I want something to operate on the fly with much less weight. Your first suggestion is more what I'm going for, and iwanna hook up to the alternator so it'll charge on the road. I almost bought the dual setup @Spvrtan had but couldn't part with the money at that time

As for the generator/inverter you posted....its gas powered but does it run loud like all other generators I've used. I've only used em for construction sites on 100 ft power cords to run all sorts of saws. Since i'm not a familiar with output and horses I'm wondering if this lightweight one you posted would be as loud. 50 lbs works but I'm stillconcerned about volume

That one runs at 53 dB. That is pretty quiet bud. Mine runs at 59 dB and usually cannot hear it.

Here is a chart to compare to.

That is quiet. According to the chart the heater I'm thinking would be louder that that. Thanks for the qdvice. Now, can I borrow $469? You can go camping with me :D

Not much math to be done here. Just a little addition. You'll have to spec out all the items you would want to run at the same time and add their wattage usage to find out what size inverter would work best for you. The higher wattage inverter, the higher the price.

The real question here is, why haven't the vendors in here designed an aux batt setup? Seems like plenty of guys would be jumping on that.

I bought this off Amazon. Wasn't too much, pretty quiet and you can get another and run it in parallel if needed. Fully fueled it weighs about 40 lbs. pretty happy w it. A lot less expensive than Honda. I would've gone w a Honda if I could've at the time. This one is pretty quiet though. You can stand next to it and still have a conversation. IMG_1335.jpg

When you talk about running heating elements, you are using a lot of power. I believe you will drain your battery bank way too quickly to be a reasonable solution. I did not do a lot of research but based on what I saw, I would guess you will burn through a fully charged 100 AH battery in between 4-6 hours running a less than 1000 watt heater. Small propane heater with an O2 sensor may make more sense.

You can get a 12 volt electric blanket that only draws about 5 amps but I don't know if it really going to help much.

This is exactly what I have for nights in my truck with the softopper. Get a truck bedz inflatable mattress and stay warm. The right gear helps as well, and knowing how to use this gear in colder weather is key.

It's a small tent. I don't think k I'm iterated in a propane heater. I'm interested in the electric blanket and I'm going bigger on my sleeping bag temp rating. I don't want to stop camping over the winter aND it gets balls cold where I live.

I'm starting to think a small portable generator/inverter would be great for what I'm doing

    So check it's out...
When I was in Alaska camping in the winter we would build a super hot fire on top of a foot deep hole filled with decent sized rocks. Take TE rocks out and put them in a trench to cover with dirt. Setup a tent over the warm dirt and the insulated rocks would keep us warm in negative temps in -15 degree bags. It's like sleeping on an oven in the winter
