As a general rule of thumb, regardless of engine, V8, V6, straight 6, I4, more power means more fuel/ energy. ICE, hybrid, pure EV, it doesn't matter. The fundamental principal is the same.

Same here! My credit union touted this "environmentally friendly eco vehicle discount" as if I was buying a Prius.

I knew that the mileage wasn't the goal here - torque is! Remained silent and took the .25% off with a grin.

If there was a state and federal government incentive for buying that hybrid, I would use it as well.

They're too wide. I had to buff out some mild pinstripes on my Tundra after hitting those roads. Guys with Raptors don't venture out on those service roads without a chainsaw and hedge trimmers.

Unfortunately, this is true. I always carry a Stihl chainsaw, and that's for BLM/FS roads in NV. I can't even imagine some of these states with lots of trees.

My Frontier squeezed through here with my mirrors folded in. Damn spruces grow up right next to the road in certain places. Many with dead branches that can make some deep pinstripes. Maybe I'll see a CT up here someday. Prolly not. Ha20231105_112348.jpg

Hybrid owner here. Hopefully I don't offend any non-hybrid owners because that's not my intention. This is just my opinion regarding the two trucks. I have a 1794 hybrid 4wd which is currently at the dealership because it's leaking transmission fluid. They gave me a Limited non-hybrid 4wd to use. To me, there is a big difference in power. Also, on my hybrid, the start/stop function is truly seamless. On the truck I'm using now, it promps you to press hard on the brake pedal to initiate the start/stop function. When it starts up, it's more pronounced than my hybrid. To each his own, but I'm very glad I went with the hybrid version.

NOT dealing with that bull shit start/stop system: worth every penny.

(Yes I know hybrid starts/stops but I have an electric motor to get going again. Non hybrid will sit there at the light once the start/stop craps out.)

Newbie here, but looking thru a few pages, I suspect the real reason for the hybrid is to extend the turbo engines longevity by reducing stress on the engine during take off. 6 or 7 thousand pounds is a lot of resistance. Sorry if it was already mentioned.

I bet you wish you kept that Scout. Was it a Scout II with the 345?

Scout II Short body. 345 V8-4 Speed. Three Inch Lift. full Skid Plates. It was a monster - enormous low end torque. We got a 2 1/2 Ton truck (Military) buried to the frame---attached the trucks winch to rear shackle-just walked it out of the hole.

For non hybrid users, gently raise the brake pedal to start the engine slightly before you need to get going. This way the engine is already started in anticipation of the accelerator pedal being used (aka -gas pedal).

Thats not entirely accurate, The A/C compressor on the Hybrid tundra is ran directly from the HV traction battery to remove parasitic losses and to enable extended start stop sessions without impacting caben temps.

We Have the Rav4 Prime and once the traction battery is empty there is no change in performance as you still have 300HP on tap. The BMS wont allow you to charge the battery to true 100% or discharge it to 0% so when the battery is exausted you still get 38 or better MPG and the power its truly an amazing car. If they could carry over the Rav4 Prime driveline to a Taco I would jump over to that.

Gee dude my 2022 tundra gets 19 mpg in the city and 25 or more on hwy when you need power and torque it is there with twin turbos and electric assist in the drivetrain. Regenerative braking and if you don't drive like a complete MORON you know balls to the wall you get it or dog it it will give great performance. I also have a highlander with a little4 banger on top of an electric motor it gets 39 mpg ! Man Volkswagen beetles never got that good a gas milage in the seventies and it is all wheel drive plus these vehicle's have high voltage which the cables are orange and the alternator is a thing of the past THINK POWER INVERTER! Just my 2 cents.

Exactly! Most people on here have never had a 500+ hp car that weighed 3000 lbs and under and it shows. My SR5 SX is not a platform I would want to make a "drag truck" out of. I mean the HP and big torque numbers are nice, but holy crap, it's a heavy assed truck.

You see the same in the Harley Davidson world. Folks will spend ridiculous money making a bagger faster. It would be much cheaper and faster to buy a used crotch rocket if you want to go fast. Even after the Harley is upgraded, its a freaking heavy touring motorcycle!
