Another vote for the cargo bar - I only use it occasionally in the truck, but it comes in handy for some woodworking projects too!

You lot are over thinking the OP’s problem. If he were to fill his bed with assorted crap then all he’d have to do is remove some of it in order to jam in whatever essential item is required.

Just leave the tailgate down. Im sure her trunk won't slam against it.

Another vote for the ratcheting cargo bar. I have a huge Alubox with tons of heavy gear in it. The bar is legit and keeps it steady even with severe inertia changes.

If you have a flat cover, Undercover Flex or Bakflip, I'd say no.
Not much room under there above the bed rails.
I couldn't use the big ugly OEM tie-downs.

Just don't use fresh (wet) treated lumber. I made that mistake once because it was what I had laying around. After it dried, it wouldn't fit no more. lol

For those with the ratcheting cargo bar, I've always been paranoid about denting the bedsides. Are they sturdier than I think? I figured they'd dent the interior bedside then fall down (and in the process crack the spray on bed liner), or if left loose enough not to dent the bed, they'd jiggle loose and fall down anyway. Maybe I'm overthinking it?

    Nice!

Where did you get those tie downs or did you make them yourself?

LOL I know, and I get it. I've seen the indestructable Hilux on Top Gear too. I just have a hard time tearing up expensive things if I can avoid it.

Bought these and had to bend them a tad..

Amazon.com: CCR Sport Deck Rail Tie Down Hook for Toyota Tundra/Tacoma (4-Pack) : Automotive

My write-up on them including the bending....:eek2:

    Yep, that's right.
I keep a 7/32 hex wrench to toss in the swing case in case I need to move them.

I have the rubber bed mat and you’re right- it does help keep stuff in place.

    However…

I picked up several pairs of dumbbells (I was building my Covid Home gym when gyms were closed) and had a pair of 70’s and a pair of 90’s, BOXED, back there.

To my surprise, I did hear them moving, but they were under my Diamondback so I couldn’t see them. I wasn’t driving crazy.

When I got home, I found that the weights had actually burst the cardboard and tape and they had rolled violently around, beating both wheel wells into lunar landscapes.

Bed mat helps, but for those among us who are cursed, they are only part of the solution.

I was going to say if he just quit braking so hard he would not have that problem.

    Bedrug makes them.

You can find the Bedrug brand on Amazon as well.

I have the bed and tailgate mat in 2014 with factory spray-in liner.

I had the full bed in my 2005 that had no spray liner.

I have the Bed Rug also. Cargo rarely moves except for panic stops. Plus easy on the knees when climbing in..

Cargo bar works well and can be removed easily. Many brands out there, they all seem pretty similar.
