    Pretty sure if me and my girl ever split (unlikely, been 4 years now), I'd take a crack at being a trout bum. Sell almost everything, load my mtn bike, fly rods and boat in the truck then just take off fishing for as long as possible. Then when the money ran out, work a little bit to afford gas and food to get back out there again.

    You all talk about getting old. I'll trade ya. LOL. I'm not even 30 yet. I'm going bald, I've gained 35lbs in 4 years. 2 screws in my left knee, probably arthritis in most of my joints. Cracks and pops when I wake up in the morning. Odd pains. A youth of Downhill mtn bike, x country mtn bike, bmx, foot ball, rugby, soccer, rock climbing and the last 7 years in the welding industry have aged me.

    Yep, you're a parent.

    Living from truck stop shower to campground toilets was a ball when it was just me. Now, I have a crowd that can't appreciate the finer things in life. If on a road trip one needs to pee we have to search for a 'clean' bathroom!!!

    What happened to squatting behind the car and wiping with a leaf?

    I completely get it. That being said, your family looks healthy, you have a house, two nice vehicles, and a lot of talent / patience I can only dream of. I think you'll be ok :transformer:

    Edit: My parents aren't too involved in our kids lives either. My mom calls when she wants something or to tell me she's going to go buy a house now too, going to HI, etc. She is living her fairytale life of being married to a Doctor now, never offers anything (I don't need nor would ever want it.) Everything I own is because I busted my ass for it. Never took a penny from anyone and never will.

    My Mom still visits maybe once a year and will spoil the kids. She's great with birthdays, holidays, etc. but that's it.

    My dad means well, but never calls the kids at all. They'll FaceTime him at times, and he would stand in front of a train for them.

    When my brother and I moved to CA with my dad in our early teen years, he set me straight. I was volunteering at the Sheriffs dept, working PT, sports in high-school, and did well in school. Actually, out of the 3 of us I'm the only one to graduate high-school followed by some college.

    I'm the only one with a real career. My brother is a complete shit head. He's selfish, doesn't appreciate anything and is in his own world. My mom finally stopped paying his cell phone (he's 30 btw) and guess what? He called her saying he hopes she gets cancer and dies. Wtf?

    My first 2 were cleanups of a meniscal tear and the second was also to clean up a bunch scar tissue.

    This one will be cleaning up a ton of scar tissue, cleaning a tear in my meniscus and then a tear in my cartilage behind my knee cap

    Don't tempt me. I get 2 or 3 one month vacations a year and Colorado is high on the list for next summer or fall. Mid life solo road trip. She'll understand, who ever she is at the time.

    True story coming atcha.....

    Two days before I fly to Alaska on A mountaineering/ice climbing/paddling expedition I decided I would enjoy a run through the local (southeastern) state park. Having run every inch of these trails so many times I was bored so....off trail it was. Halfway through the run I tripped, ripped a shoe lace off, and face planted. 10 minutes later I needed to pee..so I did.

    3 days later, 2 flights, and a hotel room, I started itching.....in the wrong area! Poison ivy juices had permeated my skin and spread quickly. 93 days of itching, bleeding from scratching, and spreading rapidly (backcountry showering doesn't happen effectively in AK) was an experience I don't wish on anyone.

    Once I returned to GA the doctors were flabbergasted at the square footage it covered......when it started on my nozzle!!!

    When I was a kid, we lived on cheap hotdogs, ramen noodles, totinos pizza for dinner, cereal with powdered milk, and rarely went out. When we did eat out, it was usually at the hamburger stand. McDonald's was too expensive. We lived in a small 700 sq foot house with two tiny rooms, 1 that I shared with my sister. But, life seemed easy then. I am greatful for everything I have now, but I worked my ass off for it. My knees are trashed at 35 years old, but it was worth it being able to provide everything to my kids that I never had. My dad has never really gotten it together. He is currently living in the back of my old '99 Tacoma I gave him. I wish I could help him more, but i have my own family to take care of, and his lack of motivation doesn't help either.

    People rent out their house or apartment or a room out of their house. I did an entire 5 bedroom beach house in NC while visiting my parents for a week. $900 bucks. It was Jan but still cheaper than a nice hotel. Did some city apartments also during that vaca. Gotta do the whole house tho, just a room would feel weird. M. Night Shalaman weird.

    That arthritis is a bitch. Wait til your 40's. I went go-karting today and almost died in the first 10 minutes. Can't even explain how bad my entire body hurts everyday.

    That top half is actually another house, a slightly bigger house. Not many houses in that neighborhood actually had garages. None of those fences existed back then either, which was awesome as a kid -when kids actually played outside.
