I have a wandering eye for other trucks. The other evening I saw a GMC 2500 Denali that looked pretty nice. I have no idea what power plant it has or the quality of the new trucks either. For $80k though it is certainly out of my price range.

This would be my guilty pleasure if I had a need for a diesel and frequent tow power

I'm a whore for just about all vehicles. That Ford would be a 7.3 Gasser for me, but it would be my 1st choice for an HD truck. Multiple posts about this, that, and the other vehicles I'd love to have. I don't think I'll part with the Tundra though. I just need to win the lottery and have a very large garage.

Yeah I'm with you on having multiple vehicles. I need a few acres with a barndominium full of my fav trucks (F250 diesels, vintage mid 70s models, early model Broncos, and a John Deere or two)

If I went HD, it would be because I have three kids and a big dog, and we’re over GVWR not even loaded down very much. It would be hard not to go with the bonehead simple pushrod 7.3L Godzilla engine. The only problem—and it’s a really big one for me—is it’s built by Ford. This would be a MAJOR concession on my part, being that my number one criterion is not having to deal with stupid vehicle bullshit. My Tundra has been absolutely perfect on that front. But, my kids are wanting to bring more and more stuff when we go out camping (kayaks, fishing poles, a second tent for themselves, etc). They’re also growing like weeds, and my payload number is not.

My grandpa would cry tears of joy if he lived to see me in a Ford.
The ultimate man-plex. I’ve tried to talk my wife into building a barndominium with a massive, tall garage. She ain’t into it at all, lol

Why not the stone axe simple pushrod 6.6 GM uses (which is just a bored out 6.0, which they've been using for over 10 years)?

You mean the one they put cylinder deactivation in that caused lifter failure that brought their production to a halt, and now continues to have lifter issues at bit of a reduced rate? That's easy. Their interiors are made with fisher price plastic and cheesey rubber snake rubber makes up their "soft touch" portions. Turn radius is garbage because they've prioritized on road ride over all else, their blind spots are stupidly huge, they've shoved the engine under the dash further than anyone else making it impossible to work on, and yet somehow still have acres of hood in the way of seeing anything remotely close to in front of you.

Oh yeah, they took tens of billions of tax dollars in "help", welched on the remaining 6-8 billion dollar debt owed to those of us who work for a living, declared bankruptcy, but still paid out the corporate D-bag bonuses and severances, too.

I don’t think @GODZILLA likes GM. Lol. I don’t think it’s a terrible truck, and it probably would have been my choice until recently. Suffice it to say the longer my wife drives this Yukon XL, the less I’m interested in other GM products.

Ford has burnt me too badly and too many times between the one I owned and the fleet trucks I've used to ever allow another one in my driveway again.

It does really suck not being able to load much in the bed of my truck when we tow our camper because we're basically at payload with the trailer tongue and the family loaded up. I'll keep my 2010 Tundra for a while longer, but I really think I'll end up in a 3/4 ton gasser when it's time for a new truck. Those 7.3 Godzilla Fords have been getting a lot of praise, and I like the more squared styling compared to the other offerings. The new Tundra also just isn't doing it for me in the looks department.

And I'm in the exact same boat with GM trucks. Their cars are much better, but boring.

Many family members of mine and of my wife’s won’t drive anything else. And it seems like they’re constantly going back to the dealer to take care of some kind of issue. They see dealerships taking care of issues as a good thing. I would see it as time lost, not being able to depend on my truck.

The temptation for me is to think that it might be different with a 7.3 gasser F350. Like it’s too simple to screw up. Problem is, it’s still built by the same Ford.

Actually the new 6.6 does not have cylinder deactivation….. fantastic power. Hauls everything I need for work and more …. and helps me put food on the table day in and day out.

With it being new, and popular, give it a bit of time to see if issues crop up. It hasn't taken long to see that work is needed on the new Tundra, and if the Ford has gremlins, they'll start popping up. The big challenge will be sifting out the morons who broke their trucks from the legitimate issues from the factory.

Ah, must've mixed it up with the other motors they have that do that. I don't follow their products much anymore. I do know that they only go up to a 3.73 gear ratio and don't have a 10 speed transmission on it like Ford does with their 4.30 gearing. The Ford will pull better and manage fuel better, won't it?

I'm a Toyota guy first, GM guy second. Even so, the GM doesn't really blow my skirt up. If I need a HD truck, I have no idea what I'd buy. 2006 was the last year that an HD truck really appealed to me.

Ford definitely did better with the gearing options, GM only gives you one on the HD’s. The GM HD 6 speed is one of the most reliable transmissions hooked up to a gas engine, the basic design has been used for over ten years. I think there are less issues with the GM 6.6 gas then there is on the Ford 7.3. The GM 6.6 is a cousin of the 6.2 in the 1/2 tons, iron block with a longer stroke and lowered compression. I’m an impartial Toyota guy that researched for at least 6 months before deciding on the GMC 6.6 gasser for my HD needs, looked really close at the Ford and Ram also.

The dash is by far the most disappointing part of my truck. They just updated the 1/2 tons for 2022 and it is really nice, expecting to do the HD’s for 2023. I like the rest of the interior though and the seats are excellent. I’m in Moab right now, just spent two days driving and I feel great!

I know I'm the odd man out when it comes to the chevy comfort. Everybody seems to love them, but if I'm in a chevy truck for more than an hour or two my back is completely shot. Work is owned by chevy guys and I can honestly say that even getting paid to sit in them was tough. I realize it's a me issue, but it's a big part of why I wouldn't buy one.

Are we still talking about GM heavy duty trucks? No cylinder deactivation on the 6.6. IFS means no Ford-style death wobble. As to the engine position complaint, I think you're thinking of the third gen Tundra.

Chrysler took a bailout too, right?

Yes, Chrysler did take a bailout. The supreme difference is that instead of filing chapter 11, paying out their corporate leadership, and flipping taxpayers the bird all the way to the bank; Chrysler opted to merge with/sell to Fiat to maintain financial solvency. They paid back the loan.
