Must be solid, keep the bed as dry as possible, very good quality, good fitment, etc. I prefer the folding design as opposed to rolling. The Gator FX for $799 looks like a solid option...I really like that design. Anything better for the price?

    What say you?

    Thanks guys!

That is a good thought. I talked with Mike about another item...he seems like a great guy.

True. Since it's the only one I've had any experience with don't know what would be better.

It will be tight but you might be able to get a Diamondback SE. If you go threw an online dealer with discount.

This one's on my short list, after months of shopping. I second (third?) recommendations to contact @eccracer104. When you decide, let him know what you want, and what you have to spend. He's been giving us good discounts (via PM, not posted to the forum), and might get you close enough that you can get what you want. And... Dude rocks the customer service; a sale happened right after I ordered something, that woulda made my cost even lower that what I paid. I may have received a tip about how to recoup that additional cost....)

I have the Extang Solid Fold and inconsistently trickles water through bed cap rails. called Extang and they state it is a Toyota problem because of the ribbed rails.

My older extang tri-fold also leaks. And freezes to the plastic tailgate and bed rails. So the gaskets are looking sad. My friend has newer model and his is also frozen however I think leak free.

Good luck. I wouldn''t buy the extang again (granted I got mine used off craigslist and I paid for $500. If you bought from dealer and local perhaps you could after trial and error find something you like.

My mx4 also trickles in water in car washes. I think it is in fact the ribs on our side rails. It’s not bad enough to bother me as it looks way better than caps that go over the bed rails.

I'm happy for this info. Hours of research hadn't found me anything (less costly than the Diamondback) that won't leak under some conditions. As much as I wish there is one, I guess it's good to know a likely reason for the leaks isn't to do with which cover I pick. I guess I'll stop trying to meet paired priorities of security and weatherproofing, and just focus on security.

I just bought a Pro-Z Profold off Autoanything, it's supposed to be a Bakflip G2 clone made by Undercover. With a coupon it went down to $631 with shipping.

I actually just went trough one of those high pressure automated washes. Took some pictures for you guys. And I have weather stripping installed. If it rains it’s not this bad. This is only because it’s a high pressure touch less drive through wash.

I also have the Rugged Solid Fold II and love it. It's been 6 months and not a drop of water inside. I actually like and prefer the latching system because I can easily adjust how firm and solid it latches with the bed rails as they are. I did not want to relocate the rails in order to install a cover.

Thanks for the info. Where are you (somewhere dry, or rainy/ snowy?). Have you taken through a high pressure touchless wash?

Yeah after using the mx4 relocation it pretty much makes those rails useless. It can’t hold much weight anymore.

A big thanks to everybody who offered their recommendations. I just bought the Gator FX3 for $800 out the door from the good folks at Real Truck.

I chose this cover for the quality and design. This cover flush mounts directly to the factory track system and the factory tie downs can still be used with the cover installed.
