She's beautiful! The action on the M1 and M14/M1A are like no other.

One of my old 'long distance' M14 rifles, they have only improved since then.

"M1A" is the trademarked name Springfield Armory Inc. gave their M14.
Smith Enterprise, Inc. was the first to use "US Rifle 7.62 mm M14"

    Still rolling stock baby....
I had a scout, let it go, kind of wish I had kept it. Got it for hog hunting. Still have 240 rounds of swiss surplus ammo, and 10 niw 25 round cmi mags for it LOL. Been kicking around a 308 AR or a standard M1A.

Not a tack driver??? Yes it is! I have one and an M1 Garand... and a mini14.. you can say I am a little in love with the design.

My m1a(scout) can drive tacks just like the garand can.
The mini? Eh it's accurate but MUCH cheaper to shoot.
I have added a long eye relief 7x scope to the m1a and man does it shoot well.

The Socom in the wood stock was a good shooter.

I wanted the socom but found the scout used for 1150 bucks. Best purchase ever, especially with the short eye relief scope. I just wish I could find ammo to shoot

It’s definitely heavy BUT the Springfield Armory Scout is a tact driver right out of the box. Truthfully if I could pick one I would choose it over the AR. And it’s not picky about the ammunition you choose.

    Out of curiosity, why?
I would love an LR308... but can't justify it since I already have the m1a

I tried making the rifle into something it was not. Young and dumb lesson learned.

I purchased the rifle expecting to shoot it from the bench focusing on tight groups and the occasional long shot while hunting. It could make nice groups, but the cheek position with a scope was uncomfortable to hold. After a dozen or so range trips, I realized it was a true battle rifle that wouldn't fit my intended purpose, and I couldn't see the use of a battle rifle I handled with white gloves to avoid damaging the beautiful stock. Funds were tight at the time, so I rolled the funds from that project into some class III projects and an LR308.

My LR308 is more comfortable to shoot, more accurate with a broader range of ammunition, and I don't worry about it bouncing around on the floorboard of a truck. That's a knock on the M1A. It's a great rifle that deserves praise as a historical battle rifle that has been proven useful in current theatres.

Mine. Got it with a black synthetic stock, then picked up the wood from Dupage Trading.

Mini 14’s/30’s run and run and run..!! You can get the barrel smoking hot and they just keep running.
Great rifles ! Fairly small and light weight. Very maneuverable and the price used to be right. Have watched them double in price over the years. My mini 14 SS synthetic was 650.00 out the door almost 20 years ago. How times change…

I wanted a true 30 cal rifle I could shoot, then I found a minty nice russian SKS, did someone say bayonet? I'll get some pics of it & my others. My first firearm was a Browning HP 9mm l got for $425 out the door in '01. The same day I went to another gun shop & found a '45 Remington Rand 45 auto, it's just like the one my GI Joe carried 50 years ago...

I had a Socom 16. Can’t say I miss it, but certainly regret parting ways with it. If I stumble across one down the road, could easily see myself grabbing it.
