Some poor SOB is going to buy it again. Makes me sick.

Also, how does a truck with less than 40k miles have frame rot that bad? Did they park it in the ocean? It makes me wonder if the odometer has been tampered with too.

Carfax's report on that vehicle is lacking and thereby misleading. I read to see if carfax vouches for their vehicle information reports being correct. They don't. Carfax only reports information as given to them. Their vehicle reports have influence of sale, yet carfax claims no responsibility for lack of or transaction made between seller and buyer. Aside from aforesaid, it's reported that some dealerships provide fake carfax reports.

Appears carfax and other vehicle information reporting businesses aren't the holey grail of vehicle history/condition as consumers are made to believe. They should be taken as a grain of salt and not influence a buyers purchase.

In general the carfax is just about useless. It only serves as a document of what is known, but I would never recommend looking one over to find that a car has not had an accident or has not had major repairs done. It's nothing more than a "feel good about your purchase" tool for dealers to use against unsuspecting customers.

No joke, this dealer should be reported to BBB or even Consumer Affairs. Somebody could get very hurt if that truck were in an accident.

I would bet the OP ended up contacting a lawyer……and said lawyer advised him to stay very far away from this thread and posting anymore on the subject. Hope he gets his $4k - a lesson learned doesn’t have to cost that much

I think most of us keyboard warriors are shocked that he’s shocked that he got “most” of his money back. As if that made it OK. I would not be shocked. I would want all of my money back. They are still in business. They are not incapable of giving all of his money back. They’ve chosen to keep some after a poor business practice perpetrated on someone. Most of us wouldn't let that go. We would t let that chump walk away with any of our hard earned money and remain in business taking other peoples hard earned money. The bastards can’t win.

Kinda like selling a car to someone who has "Most of the money" you've previously agreed to, and taking the deal, just because he showed up and would buy the car from you....

Thanks to the OP for updating us on the resolution. I agree the $4k sucks. But depending on where the OP lives, it may not be as easy for him to get to Kansas to recover the $4k in Small Claims Court. Also remember the court will allow Kansas Car Finders reasonable fees like shipping, reconditioning, recovering tag and title fees from the OP. So even if he wins in Kansas small claims, his recovery may only be half the remaining $4k. Then deduct travel time, hotel, food, and if airfare and rental car, then yeah, no point fighting it just to net out $400-$500 bucks.

I know some here would fight it all the way just to net out $5, and I applaud your tenacity, but this may not be the case for everyone.

Damn. Lucky you got anything back. I would find it worth pursuing the other $4k but I have a lot of spare time.

I've made the mistake of buying cars online a few times in my life. They are NEVER as good as they seem. This example is more extreme than my experiences, but damn that is a lot of rust. That is so bad, the vehicle is not safe to drive.

Live and learn. It's worth the cost of a flight to go see one in person, or pay for a local PPI.

Or maybe he saw that she’s 5 ft 9 inches tall, 200 lbs, and a convicted felon that may or may not torture him before burying him in the forest. With that caliber of woman, her hubby is likely to be a monster as well. I’m thinking like the guy from Raising Arizona.
We can all speculate til the cows come home, and share what we’d all do in his situation, but it’s done. We can only pray the next buyer of that truck joins this forum to ask our opinion about what he should do…..:help::rofl:

That's about it in addition to OP's and others prior pics of frame rot all included in a sticky saying "Buyers Beware." That would provide an easy to find good service to others asking advice about buying a 1st gen trk.

@empty_lord, If I bought a vehicle in Boston with major frame damage from one of the Copart Auto Auction locations, how would I find out if I have a case to get my money back.

I read some more of your posts in another thread and it sounds like the description of the vehicle and some prior inspections don’t line up. You may or may not have a case, depending on what you signed when you picked the car up.

Many states won’t allow the sale of rotted frame vehicles at auction I believe.
