Reminds me of the conversations when the ecoboost came out people figured out you can have either “eco” or “boost” but not both. If you drive like a granny sure you can do it but I sure can’t, left foot is just too heavy. My 2022 1794 averages long term 17 mpg give or take.

This is what I got on the PA turnpike today.
Ford f150 3.5 eco boost going to trade in on a
Tundra Platinum coming back 180 miles one way.

Would have loved to have seen 50 let alone 81mpg. lol. In the 2018 Rav4 Hybrid (AWD) 34/35 mpg. was the average for her 100 per daily commute.

Thought I’d add my experience here also just for reference. Regular I force in a 23 sr5, I average 14-15 city without putting any effort into getting better fuel economy. On the highway I average 21-24 depending on conditions with setting cruise control at 65. If I’m willing to put effort towards it, eco mode without cruise control gets me up to maybe 26-27 if the highway is flat and smooth.

Finally got some hwy. time today 4 hours total...... going 17.9mpg, cruise set between 69 and 74mph in ECO mode. Coming back, roughly same speed in NORMAL mode, no cruise 22.3mpg. (with fairly strong winds on the nose).

from what i can tell reading posts and driving our non HV plat, eco mostly works best in town stop and go as it makes SS engage more aggressively. otherwise normal works great with CC even in decent head winds.

I’m running this entire tank on eco-mode about 80% city 20% highway. I will run the next tank and regular mode. So far I’m getting about 16.2 for the tank. Not stop and go traffic, just 45 mile an hour suburb kind of stuff.

again just like the air dam, the SS is mostly for oem cafe boosting. end user benefits are just not there for us as a individual user. for oem scale it does wonder for cafe targets when you can save maybe up to .2 or .3 mpg per vehicle across 70-100k trucks.

i told the wife to never run in eco mode. i told her to maybe go down to comfort during highway runs to the grandson. in city i tell her to run normal or sport if she gets road rage :)

FYI My 2022 Corolla Hybrid gets it best MPG in normal mode. City or Hi-way. Give it some time to break in and learn to manage the hybrid system.

It's almost like they didn't change the computer logic between hybrid and non-hybrid trucks. What the eco mode is doing would minimize fuel on a gasoline vehicle, but the hybrid is heavier and it doesn't make a positive difference, could actually cause increased fuel usage instead of down-shifting it lugs the motor in gear which could use more fuel. Boost = gas guzzler. I can get better mileage in tow mode or in sport mode, because those modes seem to use more battery assist for "power", but when you aren't towing or hauling and don't use the power it just results in better fuel mileage. Just note, those mode won't allow the engine to turn off, so in some instances and driving conditions it could use more fuel. Just experiment and see what works for you. All highway, normal mode seems to work best for me.

1st time towing the flat bed today, mainly country roads with hills at 55mph.....17.8mpg (unloaded). Return trip, loaded near 2500#........14.1mpg and had power to spare. My 19 Limited pulling that trailer empty on a good day 11mpg, loaded 9mpg. The only problem I've had with this truck so far is the rear suspension, the sag is bad. I guess I'm going to have to start looking at putting an Air lift in.............

I held out for the Advanced Pack for that Air Lift not really knowing if I would need it, but my fully loaded my Cargo trailer it rocked. Look forward to hucking the surf boat on the back if it ever warms up

Your fuel economy pulling an 8,000 lb trailer should not be 0.5 MPG worse than my unladen.

I’ll give it this last tank before I have Toyota evaluate it. Gotta take it in for the squeaky seat anyway, it’s driving me nuts.

I have the tundra 23 hybrid iforce max and it doesn't get better than 16mpg no matter how irritating I drive "I max" out at around 15-16mpg. Why toyota doesn't offer a manual switch button to utilize the electric only engine whenever the user wants to utilize that charge on the 2nd battery is enough to make me want to make one myself, but the proprietary software doesn't allow for that, I guess big oil has them sandbagging on fuel efficiency because if it burns gas, they're sure to make us pay at the pump unnecessarily. Why can't we charge a 3rd battery when the 2nd battery is discharging, then switch to it for power so the forward motion can recharge the 3rd battery, all while the gas engine is on standby, waiting for the moment all the batteries are drained to kick in and save the day and keep things rolling? I want to plug in an electric generator to the alternating current (ac) plug for running ac electric devices and make it go both ways into the system as well as out to the 2nd generator for recharging. You know the newest generators that are 100 percent electric, people use them for their rv's and having 2 of them for when 1 is recharging the other is providing. I may be talking impossibility but with the right timing and connecting in the right order, it's all possible. Cars and trucks were meant to run off of water and electricity, hho and electrifying saltwater to split the hydrogen and oxygen into highly combustible and clean renewable energy. Big oil is holding all the tech patents for efficient fuel burning and not letting any be used, they'd rather such the blood from this planet like the vampire leaches they are, and have the world implode with sink holes than relinquish their lock on the consumers pockets for fossil fuels. Think about your kids, and their kids, your great grandkids, they are all doomed because you are too greedy to let other energy run the world, stop the drilling and look to the liquid that covers over 3/4's of the planet for your switch resource, f**k your summer and winter blend bullsh**. Futures and barrels, Northern pipeline or southern pipeline, it's all greed and control. Why when in socal there are handfuls of refin eries within bicycling distance do we have to pay 4 dollars more than states a 1000 miles away from the nearest refinery? In Venezuela gas is like 25 cents a gallon us currency! Why doesn't somebody take a dozen tankers over there and fill them all up and bring em back here and sell that gasoline at 2 dollars a gallon? Why e85 doesn't work with 87 octane guzzling engines? Why can't we use ethanol or and methanol in 87 octane engines, or even vodka? Is it because the valves aren't the type that resist that kind of chemical or is it because that would make it too easy for the people to ferment fruit into fuel right inside the gas tank itself? Why don't the people start "the people's refinery" proposing every automobile owner pay $25 a month or $300 a year, and then when ever they need gas they go to one of the peoples refinery gas stations and fill up for free, having a prepaid fuel pass handy to insert into the pump for verification before filling? I'm down for that, this gas burning stuck in the 80's mentality lifestyle that they've got us all living, isn't living like we all should be, we should be free from having to pay $6+ a gallon of gas. Gasoline engine only vehicles were getting 50+mpg in the 1990's but for some reason the mpg went down and has not gone back to 50+mpg solely off of gasoline combustion but why? I know im off of my rocker with this rant but somebody has to say this somewhere, and since I'm disappointed in my 2023 tundra hybrid, what better time and place to go off on a crazy rant than here? Thanks for your remarks, I greatly appreciate all of them and all of you too, regardless of what you drive or if you're a oil broker, or an executive at shell or b.p.

You dont seem to be the only one. The results from Fuelly.com for the iforce max are less than stellar. seems to be mid-16's.

As for why gas engines were efficient in the 90's, it was because they were allowed to lean burn but this generates higher NOx I believe, due to the higher cylinder temperatures. Cars now run richer than they did. But also, cars are way heavier. I remember my parents 1993 honda civic was like 2300 lbs and would get mid 40's mpgs, whereas a 2023 civic is pushing 3000 lbs.

I have a limited and it only gets 15mpg at best, and it rarely shuts off the gas engine while on the freeway. There needs to be a button the driver can push to manually switch to the all electric mode. Even though switching will only last for so long b4 the gas engine kicks back on, at least the battery power would be fully utilized for what it's worth. Even adding another battery to extend the time of "electric only" travel wouldn't be a bad option for saving the planet and SAVING MONEY ON FOSSIL FUEL COSTS!($6+per gallon). Toyota can patch in the software and enable at least 30mpg with electric only mode, but they are at the mercy of BIG OIL

Yeah the hybrid max probably isn't going to be high in 4 wheel drive trucks. However, it does do better on the highway than in the city.

Just drove 2005 miles and used 103.4 gallons of gas, Newport Beach, CA to Chicago. 19.4 mpg. 2023 Platinum I-Max Hybrid. Ran speed limit +5 on cruise (75-85 mph) except coming out of Eisenhower tunnel and road construction sections. Had strong head winds across Nebraska and Iowa. Used 87 octane on all tanks, 3 adults, 2 dogs and normal travel luggage in bed under tonneau cover. Used normal mode entire trip as outside air was 95-97 degrees in Nebraska and Iowa. 31 hours driving, 3 hours nap and 3 hours stopping for gas and food.
Made same trip 2 years ago in 2019 F-250 with powerstroke and averaged 17.3 mpg.
Pleased with Tundra, smooth ride (compared to F-250). May try some premium gas on by way back home to see if it makes a difference. Chicago 87 octane at $3.60 vs Newport Beach at $6.15.

I am averaging 18.8 mpg after 3455 miles in my 23 TRD Pro (stock other than rci skids and cbi sliders). I don't baby it either, doing a lot of break in across the power band, including finding when the governor kicks in.

I am very happy with the mpg. My 2012 Crewmax RW always got in the mid 15s.

Are you avg ttl or by the tank ? Also thinking of RCI, did you keep the front TRD plate and how's it working out now ?

That is total. I hand calculate too and over the winter I dropped about 1.5 mpg due to the winter mix.

I put in the RCI front skid, makes oil changes a bit easier and got a decent amount for the TRD skid.

Thanks, yeah had full RCI on last truck and loved the cat protection. Plus the powder coated aluminum still looked new almost 3years later.
