Hello I just wanted to chime in and ask something. I noticed a small oil leak and narrowed it down to the filter housing, so I got the Toyota brand aluminum oil filter housing, went in and removed the plastic housing, and I noticed an o-ring at the top where the filter meets the engine. Does anyone know if that's supposed to be there? Or did some tech mess up when I was getting oil changed at the dealership?

Yes, there is an O-ring on them. The problem is that sometimes it gets put in the wrong groove on the housing causing it to leak.

Right I understand that part. The filters come with a large one for the housing threads, and a small one for the drain plug on the housing, but this one I noticed sits at the top on the engine side of things. (I'll try and get a picture uploaded today). I have never heard anyone mentioning this after a search across this forum and all the rest of the interwebs, so I am wondering if it supposed to be there or not? Thanks for the help!

Well I switched to the Toyota aluminum housing, made sure all o-rings were oiled up and in the correct spots, and so far no more leaks!

Front receiver, access door in skid plate but basically stock
If you switch to the Toyota aluminum oil filter housing, which is basically the same housing used in different Toyota engines, just be sure to use the perforated inner tube from the plastic housing, or make sure that the inner pipe on the aluminum one is the same length as the one in the plastic housing one. The housing may be teh same but that perforated inner tube varies in length for different engines. That inner perforated pipe functions when the oil filter element becomes clogged---its a bypass but apparently only works if it is the correct length. It is held in place by 2 tabs and can be removed easily enough. There is a spring that also has to be placed under it.

I also installed a Fumoto oil drain valve on my oil pan and it works well. I installed a front trailer receiver on my Tundra for accessories, which blocks the bolts for the skid plate, so I cut a hole in the metal skid plate but made my own cover for the hole which bolts in with 4 sheet metal bolts so I dont have to remove the front receiver when changing my oil.

PS dont remove the 2 tabs that hold the perforated pipe in place, just bend them gently and only enough to remove the one pipe and spring and then install the proper length pipe and spring and bend them back toto the position they were in originally.

But is valve rated to 100 PSI?

I can't imagine it failing, just saying it was intended for the pan where the pressure is just a few pounds and I'd hate to see someone lose an engine/crash over this.

    As you were...

Having held one of these in my hands / soon to install it, I can tell you the valve's gonna have no trouble with 100psi continuously. Nice stainless steel top-entry swing full-port ball valve.
