Ah that brings up a question I had. Did your Tundra come with bed rails? I was surprised to see that my Tundra did not have bed rails so it has exposed threaded holes. I would imagine I'd need to order some bed rails before getting a bed cover.

Mine did come with bed rails, that's interesting. I think you can get some bed rails for pretty cheap on the bay.

The infotainment screen is the only nice thing about the interior. I don't care for anything else. The AC is inferior and even the pep wasn't equal to the hype I read about - obviously the Max would probably satisfy me in that dept but so would the $75-80k I'd need to buy it.

The ride was smooth but so is every new truck out there these days. As for the exterior, I'm not a fan.

I’ve only had one rental on a work trip and thought it was OK. It does seem like they killed off some things that really fall into the work truck category. Not to beat a dead horse, but things like removing the tow hooks and the bed not being accessible from the bumper when the tail gate is down seems they had a different market in mind.

This is so minor. Like you spray a degreaser down there and drive a few more years until you would need to degrease it again. Not even worth fixing.

I totally agree. I would never consider going through the massive disassembly, sealing and reassembly of the cam towers. It is a tiny external issue (IMO).

I agree it’s minor, but to me it was worth fixing cause I hate leaks drives me crazy :eek2: lol. It’s not even that bad of a disassembly, I’m almost at 100k km since the fix and still runs and sounds like new and no leaks. Been on long trips with it, over loading it with dirt bike and pulling our trailer. Love this truck!!

The only part of the bumper you can step on is covered when the tailgate is down. I know that sounds minor, but I use that small portion of bumper all the time on the 2nd gen.

Well, I was an auto mechanic back in the 60s when virtually every single American car leaked oil like a sieve from the valve covers, timing covers, oil pans, transmissions, etc. To have a clean garage floor, you had to have a large drip pan under the engine and one under the transmission (especially an auto trans). It was nearly impossible to work on these without getting grease up to the elbows. And they needed work all the time - fuel pumps, carburetors, starters, generators, water pumps, radiator hoses, fan belts, on and on and on. Reliability and durability was NOTHING like what we have today. Valve jobs were common practice at around 80k miles (and often much sooner). Clutch replacements required the removal of an extremely greasy transmission to get to it. Knicked and bleeding knuckles under several layers of grease was a daily occurence.

Even the worst Tundra cam tower leaks are a pimple on the ass of a microscopic gnat in comparison. Easliy cleaned on a regular basis, it is nothing in comparison to the days of old.

If you’re ok with leaks that’s cool too, it isn’t a big deal to some. It will still run for ever.

    In progress…
I had a ‘19 Pro and was planning on buying a ‘22 Pro as soon as I could. Then the first official images and specs were released and almost immediately I changed my mind. I wasn’t put off by the V6, I simply thought it was the ugliest 1/2 ton truck made. I still think that. So I traded in the ‘19 for a ‘21 Pro. Last year I got to thinking maybe I had been unfair to the new truck so I test drove a ‘23 Pro. It was one of those test drives where the salesman threw me the keys and said he’d be ready to start the paperwork when I got back. I was not impressed with the reduction in interior space. It did ride better than my ‘19. I was not impressed with the acceleration. When I returned to the dealership I asked the salesman what it would cost me. $85k was his reply. I laughed, got in my ‘21 and left. I do feel sorry for those 3rd gen owners with issues and I hope everything works out for them. I’ve been a Toyo fanboy for decades but Toyota really screwed the Tundra up. I know there are a lot of great things about the new truck and if they tweak the body design and get these QC and reliability issues resolved I may still buy one at some point. I don’t make so much money that I want to play Tundra roulette.

I got a 2019 trd pro tundra in early 2020 then quickly got a 2021 4runner limited in mid 2021. Paid them off in 2022.

This exact scenario is what I figured would happen.

edit: I really hope Toyota gets this figured out. I’ve got family members coming up to new vehicle territory.

Tundra purchased new in Sept ‘20
LX purchased with 149k miles on it in Nov ‘22.

We’ll hit 200k on the LX next year easily. I don’t need anything for a very long time. Although I’m curious to see the new Model Y when it drops. The Toyota I’d be most interested in if the LX got totaled is a hybrid Highlander. None of this new TNGA-F stuff really grabs me. The GX550 might be enticing in several years, but the ultra cheap interior and hood flutter is shocking.

I had the option for a 3rd gen but it was an absolute NO for a trial engine that is a 1st gen. That V8 had many of years of practice to get it right and they did. I got the last year - 2021 and VERY thankful I stayed with that mindset.

Now every time I look at her she just giggles, she knows!

I did the same thing for the same reason! I wanted a '22 until I saw the specs and opted for a 2021. I'm very happy I did too.

    None....
Yea this sucks I had to buy the extra step that folds away because it was unsafe trying to stepp on the tiny portion of bumper showing when the tailgate was down. Chevy makes better truck rear bumpers hands down!!!!

I was originally holding for a 3rd gen to upgrade from my 2nd, but in hindsight I’m pretty satisfied with the 2.5

Toyota went backwards on the 3rd gen. That's all I am going to say. Glad I kept my 2020. Money I saved by not switching, I treated myself to a little something.

Yeah, I was holding out to see what it was gonna be. Watched some of the videos when it was unveiled and said nahhh, no thanks. I’m gonna hold onto the glory days a while longer and ordered the Harrop. Always wanted a blown 5.7. It’s the pinnacle of tundra ownership IMO.
