When you remove one of the key benefits of a profession, you will have far fewer people joining that profession. In this case, doctors. They don't go through the extensive training they go through to make the same thing as most other professions (without the extensive training and education) make after a few years.

The salaries are high but it doesn't match the cost of living. Like our friend here, I lived in Santa Barbara for 13 years before moving back home to Bakersfield 7 years ago. I've never made so much money and been so poor. Me and the wife agree, Bakersfield is our last stand before leaving this state. We're very happy here but covid caused a massive influx of remote workers from the surrounding metros, we'll see how that all pans out.

So you like Bakersfield? My pops and stepmother lived in Bakersfield for many years before their passing. My stepmother was a CFO for a farm labor service that supplied farm labor to the local farmers. So as a result I have spent a fair amount of time there. Bakersfield has a rather popular car culture. Maybe you can confirm this for me. Bakersfield is a city that got rich on farming and oil and as such there area lot of "blue color rich" people that live there. They aren't your typical rich people. They like to drive lifted pick ups outfitted with all the aftermarket performance parts and/or high performance American muscle cars with billet everything, 1000 plus hoarse power motors with superchargers and twin turbos with dual clutch transmissions. You name it. Just the shear amount of high performance vehicles driven by people in Bakersfield blows my mind. The real crazy thing about it is what happens on any given Saturday evening. In most cities you can find outlaw street racing going on and it is pretty much the same everywhere you go. Those people who want to race all meet up somewhere then decide where they will be racing that evening, they go there, race, cops show up, everybody scatters, they reassemble somewhere else and they race until the cops show up again. Rinse and repeat. In Bakersfield it is a lot less organized. There you just drive around town until you pull up next to someone at a stop light and when the light turns green you race. Sitting in my stepmothers backyard patio on Saturday evening I was all ways amazed at the cacophony of sound coming from all directions. You would here the sounds of engines being pushed to the red line while going through the gears, you hear people doing burn outs, there's the sound of sirens wailing as the cops go after people and once in a while there would be a couple of cars that would come flying down the street right behind her place doing in excess of 100 plus MPH. This would go on for hours 360 degrees all around. The last time I was there taking care of my stepmothers estate after she passed it was about 11PM on Saturday and I was hungry so I decided to go to Del Taco that was about 5 miles from her house. On that particular evening I was driving my 2016 Mustang GT and at three different red lights on the way to Del Taco I had different people pull up beside me wanting to race. Had the circumstances been different I might have indulged but I was dealing with my stepmothers passing so I wasn't into it.

So have you experienced anything like that living in Bakersfield? I know I love driving up, I think it's 178 going up to Lake Itsapuddle early in the morning before the morning commute in my Mustang. It's a dangerous road but damn it is fun to drive.

Cockroaches and termites? Never had a problem with cockroaches before unless you are referring to the two legged kind that seem to effect every city in the US. I have had to deal with a few of those. Termites on the other hand are a pretty serious problem here. Especialy here on the central coast. You do need to be vigilent and have your house tented once in a while. I just did some repair here at my place about a year back where termites got into the car port and suporting beam. I replaced the beam and the place was tented. No big deal and I certainly wouldn't include it in any list of reasons not to live here.

If only Bakersfield didn’t suck so bad to live in. I work there but live in Tehachapi. Bakersfield has changed a lot in the last 7 years even. It’s a bummer. We’re heading out of state this year.

There is a very rich car culture here, from racing to restoring. There's a performance hot-road, truck or off-road shop on every corner. If you're out late on the weekend in anything that resembles a fast car, you're going to get a few buttheads challenging you. I love cars but don't appreciate this type of recklessness in town. Especially when we have a local track and dragstrip. Personally, I don't see any of this, its a big town and I live in a quiet area. The oilfields have provided a very healthy middle class out here for a long time. During booms its common for rig hands to pull 200k a years and flood the streets with lifted 2500s, it comes and goes. The oilfields also inject a lot of money back into the community, particularly in the schools. Chevron has been a big part in our high school welding, architecture and engineering gateway programs. But to answer your question, yes, I really like Bakersfield but I grew up here, its home.

I know quite a few people that do the hart flat, caliente, tehachapi commute. Its beautiful up there but I can't do that mountain drive. As one of them told me, he bought his retirement home too early. He and I both have kids in sports, school and activities. He does a lot of driving up and down that mountain.

    Where are you moving?

We’re one of the many heading to Texas. I used to live out there and loved it, plus my family all moved out there. Northwest portion of Bakersfield would be doable for me, but I’m from up here so I chose the drive

You ain't kidding. So many people left to Texas. I live in the far West, closer to Enos. When I moved in, all the neighbors were moving out lol. Most of them to Texas.
    Maybe one day...

So you live out on the west end hun? It is pretty quite out there on that end of town. Yea what I'm talking about is more down town, east of I-99.

I have always wanted to check out the speedway there. I've driven by it a bunch of times coming and going but I've never been by there when there was something going on. Do they have days when they let anybody go out there and run their personal cars on the track? The place looks pretty big from the outside. What is it like a half mile oval track? So they have a drag strip too hun?

Well thank you for responding. So I think at this point I would just like to cancel my order. I don't want to wait any longer. By the time the laser is fixed and you cut the plate and then the plates have to be powder coated it will be Christmas again. So just refund me my money please.

Ordered my plates on December 3rd. In early January Tyler said that my plates were ready and just needed to be shipped. Nearly 3 months later, no plates. When are my plates coming? I just need a timeframe or a refund. Order numbers are R754568104 and R508289035.

Gotcha, thanks for the response. I was trying to avoid doing a chargeback through my CC since I don't wanna kick a guy while he's down but I may have no choice of he doesn't respond. I've had talons plates in my cart for a few days just waiting to pull the trigger.

Having plates available, wrapped, and ready to ship—and then posting them for sale would resolve all of this.

With as quickly as Talon is shipping, it seems like this is what he’s doing.

I just sent him an E-mail through his official website demanding a prompt refund. We shall see how it goes. He can either give me my refund or I will see him in small claims court. I will be talking to the bank on Monday about charging it back to my account but I have no idea how it is done with a debit card.

Exactly like it works with a credit card, you'll never need to bother a courtroom over small money like this. I'm certain your bank will take care of it.

I’m not so confident - debit usually is like cash - I don’t think they’ll do a charge back but I could be wrong.

    Just getting started!
Occasional lurker, first time poster here. Looks like I screwed up and didn’t do my due dilligence with research here, before ordering these shields months ago. At least there’s an easy fix to the problem.

Much insight to be gained on this forum.
