    Tundra Familia,

I just came home with my 2016 Tundra MGM DC TRD Offroad. I traded in my 17' Tacoma Quicksand DCLB Off-Road that I purchased on January 30th, 2020.

Here is how it went down: My wife's car's transmission blew (2011 Chevy Cruze) so we opted to purchase a new vehicle for her. I wasn't ready for a new vehicle and my 2006 4runner was running strong with over 200,000 miles. At the dealership I saw the Tacoma I always wanted but I was fairly sure I wanted a full-size truck once I was ready to turn in my 4runner. But, that Quicksand kept nagging at me. As my wife was purchasing her CX5, I test drove the Tacoma. It was awesome. After my wife was done, we left and went home.

I woke up the next day and decided I wanted the Tacoma and that I didn't need a Tundra "I am not going to tow anything", I thought. Plus, I could not find many Quiksand colors around in the DCLB Offroad. I felt that it was meant to be. So, I purchased the vehicle and by 5 PM I had a new truck.

    My mistake:
    • I bought a 2017 and didn't realize 16/17 were some bad years for Tacoma (as far as TSB's and complaints). It made me nervous. But, I bought an extended warranty.
    • Extended warranty---maybe I didn't need this, but I felt safe buying it. But after scouring TW I see that many people don't have high regard for them and the money is better left put towards other things or saved for a rainy day. The comments and dialogue did sway me in that maybe I didn't need this. I feel like I made a mistake purchasing it.
    • The Tacoma when stressed up hill Boggs down. I didn't have this problem with 4unner. I forgot that the 4runner was a 4L and never really paid attention to the Tacoma's 3.5L. I could feel the difference. And, the tranny and engine seemed like they were on different planets.
    • I may have overpaid for the Tacoma and I purchased based on monthly payment. I didn't really check comp's with other Tacomas and got wrapped up in an uninformed purchase. My Tacoma was 32,665 for a 17' DCLB QS TRD OffRoad after the dealer gave me 4,000 for my 06 4runner. They started playing with the numbers to get my payment where I wanted it. The post-purchase research I believe denoted the Tacoma around 28ish -31, if I am correct. Basically l lost my 4runner, I guess.
So, after all of this, and all my impulsive fault, with the underpowered Tacoma, I was left for over a month wondering what happened. Like one of those cartoon dustballs that travels around and sucks other things into it. I felt like that. Wondering what happened.

I decided to look for a Tundra because I wanted the power and it was what I wanted in the first place. So, I actually looked for a while and snuck on this site to see what people were saying and read about those Tacoma owners that made the jump. I also made sure to get the 38-gallon tank. The dealer took my Tacoma for 27, 000 and I rolled over 5600ish in negative equity. I put some money down to help offset this. But, I have my Tundra now and I love the dual TRD exhaust. And, WOW, the room. I am finally home.

Yeah. I just got wrapped up in my wife's buying process that I never really stood a chance against the Tacoma I always wanted. Although I forgot I wanted a Tundra not a Tacoma. But, All is god now. And I have something I wanted all along. Thank you for the Welcome.

Lol. That they are. And she pushed me to get the Tundra I have now as she saw I was unhappy. Even trekked up to the dealership with me, sick and everything.

Welcome! My grandpa went through the same thing last year. Bought a 2019 Tacoma, bought a travel trailer that worked on paper (5500lbs), got halfway into the first camping trip and realized the Tacoma wasn't going to cut it. He turned around and traded the truck in for a 2020 Tundra. He lost a little money but said the Tundra has been perfect. He's got over 20k miles on it and has had no issues.

Thing is, I ended up getting an extended warranty again. More money. This one is exclusive so I know what it excludes. My wife wanted it for me. Oh well.
