    What the hell are THOSE!?
I think I've seen that top image in the map app.. but it's scary, so i go back to the turn by turn - feels much safer...

just kidding - I hate turn by turn - much prefer looking at a map... digital or physical i'm not too picky. Compass stay's with the camping stuff - doesnt really get any use anywhere else.

I have one of dem compasses. I've carried the maps while backpacking, luckily I've never had to use 'em to get out of a jam.

I ask you, if you had to choose between your smart phone and paper maps to find the elusive G spot, which would you use???? Yep, smart phone; mobile porn is reason enough not to ditch technology.

It's a military map protractor. It's used for plotting distance, azimuth and lines. The triangles represent 1:25000 USGS GRID Square
    1:50000 MIL GRID Square
    1:100000 I dont remember.

It's pretty easy to use. Putting everything together, pace count, terrain association and accurate plotting on the map is where some folks dont get it. I used to teach land navigation and ran a few course in a previous life.

Try this trick my friends. Next time you watch an episode of King of the Hill, turn on Closed Captions (cc). Everything Boomhower says is captured in closed caption, using real words. It is hilariously funny.

How can you be paranoid and not even know how the technology works that you're scared of? Removing the GPS antenna will do little to nothing to stop someone from tracking you.
Hell, wifi-positioning is scary accurate, especially in cities. Just by knowing what wifi signals your phone/device can see/pick up, and how strong that signal is, they can pinpoint your location. Even when your phone is "off" and/or has wifi "disabled".
