hmmm one question. do you have a cell phone? if you do, you do realize they track your location via cell signal triangulation even if you turn off the gps function within the phone? otherwise how would the cell towers know how to hand off your signal from 1 tower to the next.

kinda a mute point of turning off the gps in the vehicle.

also forgot to add, the gps function within the Toyota head units currently at least don't transmit it outside the unit. everything is stored internally and the way Toyota is on privacy its more secure than the majority of other car brands.

if you are really paranoid, use the personal setting wipe within the head unit. it will erase everything related to your cellphone and gps/nav data points.

Not that I don't believe you, but where did you read that Toyota doesn't transmit the data outside of the unit?

Toyota privacy issues are the main reason is hasn't even implemented android auto. google wants to track to much info via android auto. heck it only allowed apple carplay integration this year due to the privacy issues that were finally resolved with apple.

If you think your HU GPS is bad......

The moment I start my car, Up pop my iPhone

“You are x hour from home / work, and traffic is xxxx” ...... and it doesn’t matter where I am

    Google-Phone studies my movement.......

You might consider pulling your whole head unit, selling it and replacing it with a basic unit that doesn't include GPS. I have seen people give away their old 'dumb' head units and I have seen people buy the GPS enabled entune head units for dirt cheap on this website. You might be able to make a few dollars while getting rid of your GPS at the same time.

Hell... I answered him, and given the amount of data collected on us daily, had a laugh. Even our posts have localizer data. It's simply almost impossible to not leave a footprint. Oh well.. To each his own.

The answer: Make more foot prints... hard to follow someone when it looks like a herd of walkers trampled the area! :D

I used to worry about that stuff, but realistically, if they want to find a reason to nail you to the wall, they can find something.. on anyone.. or make it up... It does suck that we're all a little more willing every day to give up our personal information / privacy for some cool gadgetry... I'm pretty sure Alexa (Amazon Echo) is going to call CPS on my because I threaten and deliver on spankings for my children. Maybe even cart my wife off to protect her from a "Threatening Environment" because I raise my voice from time to time.

Did the answer you get solve the problem OP? (trying to keep this a detour and not total derailment :D )

That was my larger point... We all do SOMETHING society would turn their nose up at us for and, if they had the mind to, could use it to color us as "The bad guy."

"He's one of those no good gun-toating-child-beating-wife-abusing-white-man!"
"Shit.. another one? LINE UP THE FIRING SQUAD!"

A lot of people could not survive without all this technology...they just would not know what to do with themselves.
