Look, a better 4Runner just arrived. The only caveat is that the new Sequoia is just asking for more ground clearance, even the TRD Pro version.

I don’t agree with that at all. That’s like saying a better Tacoma arrived with the new Tundra.

Unless I totally missed what you are trying to say, if so, my bad and cheers.

I am trying to say that the new Sequoia is not really a replacement for the 2nd gen, although it carries the same nameplate. Look at the new Defender - it is a totally different vehicle in comparison to the previous generation and (again, this is just my opinion) should have been called a Discoverer. If you are planning to buy any of those vehicles and they fit your needs perfectly - go ahead and do so, it it your money after all.

I am personally somewhat disappointed in the 300 series products in general, mostly because of the interior space reduction.

As a previous 3rd-gen Honda Pilot ex-owner, you don't want to own a third gen Honda Pilot. FFS, what a lemon my 2016 was.

All I know now is MPG went up a bit, emissions went down, price went up, cargo volume went down, offroad capability went up, tow capacity went up. Ground clearance went down, fuel tank capacity went down, HP/TQ went up, 400W inverter available, reliability is unknown.

I'll evaluate some of these newer jumbo SUV's and see if they can top the old beast for versatility, longevity and low buyin cost.

I was sold on the new 2023 Sequoia after seeing it. Then I drove it. Now I'm poor :)

I bought a 2023 Platinum yesterday. There were 4 families interested in the vehicle. The initial buyer fell through, and I was second inline. We went from a 2017 Sienna to this. After 10 years of minivans, the wife wanted a bigger SUV, and the Sequoia is awesome.

My biggest complaint so far is the lack of storage behind the 3rd row of seats. The minivan was a pack mule and could carry a crap ton of stuff.

Great looking rig. Definitely a downgrade from a minivan in the cargo department. But if you don’t frequently need a ton of cargo room, maybe you can get a hitch basket to put on the back for when you do. I had one with a weatherproof (more like weather resistant) bag when I was in a 4Runner that served me well.

Congrats! Looks amazing. Very difficult to beat cargo space of minivans unless you go to the XL full size SUVs. I bought myself a roof basket if I really need the extra cargo space.

Congratulations on the new purchase and best of luck with it. It is a great looking vehicle.

I am IMpatiently waiting for them to hit dealer lots en mass so I can get one. Going to finally make the jump from Ford to Toyota.

That was my original plan, but I think we will not see supply chain issues subside until late 2024 - 2025. I have been refusing to pay the dealer markup, but with interest rates going up. It's dam if you do, dam if you don't!

The supply chain issues will never be fixed. Manufacturers are watching people pay 40% premiums. They will continue to sandbag inventory.

Look at the f150 lightning. The pro and XLT have jumped 40% in one year and they removed features. And idiots are still buying them

100% Concur. By the time the issues are worked out, I think the new MSRP will include the dealer increases, since demand is there!

A new review in the snow. Would have liked him to engage the "VSC Off" button in 4HI and Crawl Control in 4LO. Did pretty well stock. As Douthit said problem to me still remains lack of good usable cargo capability. Offroad capability is good even with the TRDOR package on an SR5, but to me the SR5 should be non-hybrid. Cheap entry level 4WD with a TRDOR option, can pop 35's on it easily to get 9.5" ground clearance, non-hybrid would probably have 100 cu ft of cargo volume and a flat floor from tailgate to first row.

Toyota, was it too difficult to do a factory ‘viper cut’ present on the current gen 4Runner and 2nd gen Sequoia? Even on the TRD Pro?

I thought that it could not run unlocked 4wd…

Edit: or did you mean rear diff lock? Is that available in 4Hi or only 4Lo like the Tundra?

You are correct. I meant hit the VSC Off button since he was complaining about the engine power cutting out. Thanks, will edit.

I keep thinking Mike Sweers was just exhausted trying to get the 3G Tundra in production and trying to get the Board of Directors to even give the OK for a 3G Sequoia. He was happy to just keep the 3G in the lineup. I imagine myself in his place, trying to juggle a second TNGA-F platform in a pretty old San Antonio plant.

Is anyone else frustrated with the radio technology and not being able to see carplay and the radio description on the same screen, unless you use your phone apps for radio. I came from a Lexus and you can split screen map and radio description (artist and title). You can’t do this in Toyota or Carplay mode and it seems like a waste of a huge screen.

We’ll be checking out the Sequoia next year when the Tundra is paid off. It’ll replace the 4Runner we have now. I keep looking now but prices are so over blown due to supply/demand.

It's a bummer but not a deal breaker. Hopefully, they'll come out with an update to let that happen.

My frustration is adding 2 drivers to the car and having it detect the correct key/phone combo. What a pain in the ass that's been.

Picked up our Sequoia last week. Overall satisfied but roofrack gets loud > 60mph - that's our biggest complaint.
Need Westcott or someone to make a larger fairing to attenuate the noise!

Yes @DrZoidberg how did you do this ? I thought Mike swears said they made it so you could not remove them. This is a game changer for me only reason why I wasn't going to buy one was because the 3rd supposedly couldn't be removed.

I didn’t remove it. A guy who owns one and runs I believe an electronics and sound system fabrication company did. He’s still coming up with a flat permanent type cover
