I've never paid a market adjustment fee. There are a few people on here who have mentioned their dealers are MSRP only. I am keeping notes and may reach out to them for a contact first.

The more I see of it, the less I am inclined to agree with my own original post on this thread. I will reserve full judgement for when I see and interact with one in person.

It made me dig a little deeper into the 2nd gen, and I have to say I think it’s a better vehicle, on paper at least. The drive modes (option for 2Hi or 4Hi full time unlocked center diff) and cargo space seem awesome.

Buying a clean 8-10 year old 2nd gen leaves a LOT of cash for buying fuel…

I've done a 180 on it. I mean I love the looks but the utility is just not competitive.

If you want a pseudo Land Cruiser the 3G is kinda sorta like it. I don't understand what their thinking is on how to position it in the jumbo SUV segment.

I almost wonder if they know they will never be competitive head to head with GM or Ford and so they are trying to sneak into the market share that wants more than a mall cruiser and are willing to sacrifice some.

They exist, I am one of them. I have a Lexus Gx460 now, and its nice, but it would be nice to have some more space and more power for towing my travel trailer. I could replace both my F150 and GX with just the Sequoia.

Ya, I wonder what their projected production and sales #'s are. Positioning it as a potential appeal to LC cravers is wise. But to me making it hybrid only is daft. IMO they could appeal to a much broader demographic range with a non-hybrid standard, hybrid optional. The battery eats up too much cargo room and utility.

SRA eats up some also, but DOES provide better offroadability vs IRS, and locker compatible. So we're back to the LC crowd again, but do LC wannabes crave 583tq and 9500lb tow capacity at the expense of cargo volume? Difficult for me to understand why hybrid only when standard TTV6 has good power and clearly better stackable cargo behind the 2nd row for overlanders.

I don't understand the hybrid thing either. I have very little interest in it, especially without generator capability. Maybe its because they think 99% of the miles on Sequoias will be mall-crawling, but then that is completely contradictory to the idea that its attracting the LC people who are looking for more. The whole thing is weird.

And again, the whole full-time 4x4 mode with the torsen diff. Anyone who has previously owned an LC, GX, Gen 1 or 2 Sequoia or some of the 4Runners is going to be disappointed about that. Its honestly one of my favorite features in my GX. I throw my GX in 4Lo unlocked and use it to move my travel trailer around the yard without binding or tearing up the lawn. And when I have offroaded the GX, I've never even locked the center diff. I have lifted tires and it will pull through in the unlocked mode no problem.

Having owned and towed with a 3.5L Ecoboost in some extremely harsh conditions, I know the non hybrid i-Force has more than enough power for anything a half ton should be doing. The hybrid is just for stoplight drags and saving a small amount of fuel.

    I found these numbers.

    Sequoia
    https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/toyota-sequoia-sales-figures/

    Land Cruiser
    https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/toyota-land-cruiser-sales-figures/

I see this as the next type of vehicle for a family growing out of the 4Runner but still trying to keep its off road capabilities.

Toyota seems to have been trying to fill a niche void in the large SUV market without trying to really compete in the 1st and 2nd gen big trees. And now that the LC is gone, it may pick up some of those numbers.

All good points, IMO. Another thing is without a low and flat cargo floor how can you build a sliding drawer system and sleeping platform? No power up/down rear hatch window either. I don't use it every day but it's a very useful feature.

My wife traded in her old Highlander for a '22 Sequoia and we must have timed the purchase very well because I got a good deal on it. She wanted the Platinum so it was not inexpensive, and it took a few months and some horse trading for the local dealer to get one, but she loves it.

Strategically, I believe that Toyota is not aggressively trying to compete in the large SUV market with the new Sequoia. It appears as though the Highlander will be getting bigger and the Sequoia will primarily appeal to people who want the full truck chassis for towing or other heavy duty use but do not want a truck. That is not a huge market.

The 2022 4Runner has more cubic ft cargo volume than the 2023 Sequoia.

Without the 3rd row probably, since its optional. If you add the 3rd row I bet its not good.

I find this difficult to believe. With the 3rd row folded, I would think the larger vehicle would still have more cargo volume. I mean, I’m sure that seat eats into the cargo space more than the 2nd gen Sequoia, since its seats folded down into the floor, just like the 4Runners that had a 3rd row.

Speaking of, my old 5th gen 4Runner had a 3rd row; it was utterly useless due to size and airflow. The only vents in that vehicle that weren’t on the dash or under the front seats were on the back of the console. That is where the ductwork ended. Unbelievably, there were no vents in the ceiling for the 2nd row, which meant almost zero airflow at all for the 3rd row. The only air pointed generally in the direction of the 3rd row occupants is coming out of the back of the console and is almost completely blocked by the second row and its occupants. Hilariously stupid.

I've been looking at links for cargo volume. This is one and every other one I've seen is consistent, https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/toyota/4runner/interior. 88 cubic ft in the 4Runner.

I can believe the '23 Sequoia has 87 cubic ft total despite extra length. The hybrid hump plus the non-removable 3rd row seats cuts stackable cargo drastically.
