I don't like the new Tundra ....the back end can't cash the check the front end is writing (visually). That huge grill is just a mis-match to the P/U bed....but on the Sequoia it looks very proportional. It really looks great. I'd give the Tundra a 5/10 for looks for P/Us and the new Sequoia an 8/10 for looks for an SUV...maybe higher once I see it in person because often vehicles look better in person (I have seen a Tundra in person...my opinion did not change on it). I realize the perspectives are a little different and the different paint setup on the front grill area is a little different, but the pics below make my point pretty well.

But what about all the fun stuff the Pro comes with? I do think if you can switch grilles, every 2022 Tundra mustache owner should switch to the Pro.

You can get the SR5 with the off road package which includes locking diff and crawl control so all you'll be missing at that point is suspension.

True. Do you think all the Tunda/Sequoia grilles will be interchangeable like before?

Yes, they appear to be separate peace's. I'm not sure aftermarket Pro grilles will have the lightbar though.

You do as you please but I don't buy new anymore, take too much $$$ hit just driving it off the lot. I take some time with research and Carfax and buy a few years old with low miles. Always a good idea to start and drive the used vehicle bone cold, the colder the ambient temp the better the test.
Me either. Did some research before buying the '19 and skipped over the Tahoe. Used Expedition was a contender but my thinking was why buy a used TTV6 turbo with maybe 2-3MPG better and no more cargo space?
I wouldn't bother with a Pro buying new, I'd buy SR5 TRD OR and mod as I please. Aftermarket will have suspension mods galore for the new Sequoia.

It's tempting, especially if a Pro grille swap is possible. I am scared to give up my V8 and it's reliability. Granted, it does have a leaky cam shaft tower.

The plan was to see if it survives that repair and if so, have Toytec install a Magnuson supercharger. I'd be committing to the 2018 long term, but I'm only at 25k miles. I had my mind made up until I saw the new Sequoia Pro.

On Autotrader I'm seeing only 33 '22 Sequoias for sale nationwide. If that is correct those 33 are the last chance for new off the lot.

I'm so GRRRRRR about the '23. Look at these cargo area pics, 2G vs 3G.

2019 sequoia rear cargo area.jpg 2023 sequoia rear cargo area.jpg

Obvious the cargo volume is reduced. Probably 6" less cargo height. I understand Sweers had to do some swindling to get the penny-pinchers on board to even keep the Sequoia in the lineup as a Land Cruiser replacement. But IMO Toyota should enhance the Sequoia lineup to include a cargo volume competitor. And, this thing known as Auto 4WD.

That's worse than the shelf my 5th gen 4runner had in the back (I had a 3-row model). It looks like an afterthought. Reminds me of The Great British Baking Show when one of the bakers ran out of time and their design looks all haphazard and unfinished.

I doubt the 3rd row is (easily) removable on the 3rd gen Sequoia. I thought about removing the 3rd row on my 2018 Tahoe to gain more vertical space but then decided not to mess with it.

The new LX cargo space for comp. This also has the solid rear axle, but I guess this doesn't offer the hybrid engine

Here's a vid measuring a 2020 Sequoia cargo area HxLxW with all rows folded (Captain chairs 2nd row). 35"x91"x50". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngf68OnvRhQ

I guess 2023 L and W will be comparable but height certainly seems less, and that's kind of a big deal to some people. I would love consistently 4-5MPG better than the 2019 but I don't need 583 torque if cargo space is sacrificed. Non-hybrid would do. I bet it will have the 22g fuel tank also. Don't need SRA with locker. Do want fulltime 4HI, such a sweet feature.

3rd row (easily) delete would be nice. Frankly, a used 3G Sequoia is still on the radar because MPG's. I'll be looking around in the used jumbo SUV market the next few years to see if there is anything that realworld MPG is better and can match the versatility and reliability of the '19.

I didn't cross-shop jumbo SUV's all that much when we wanted a bigger, stronger companion for the '07 V8 4Runner. Researched the 2G Sequoia and it met all of the criteria so bought one. Now, being a bit disappointed with the 3G Sequoia as a successor I dug a bit deeper into 2022 Tahoe and Expedition.

    * Tahoe, nope. Engine issues. Pretty f'd up method to chase MPG's. And fuelly.com shows the 5.3l is the same MPG as the 5.7l Sequoia. 13-17MPG range and most get 15MPG. Don't get 4LO until Z71 package.
    * Expedition, nope. Has less cargo volume than the Sequoia. fuelly.com shows 14-19MPG range and most get 17MPG. And repeated cam phaser issues, wastegate issues. https://www.expeditionforum.com/thr...h-dealership-dealing-with-turbo-rattle.50076/ Lower trims don't have 4LO.
    * Nissan Armada, nope.

We're going full Victor Sheppard with the '19, religious maintenance. It really isn't all that expensive. Transmission fluid full change every 60k is the most. Diff fluids every 60k is cheap and easy. Versatile and reliable, and I'm not seeing realworld MPG from competitors kicking ass over it.

3G Sequoia used is still on the radar sometime down the road, other brands I don't have much interest. Expedition Powerboost maybe. Would love if Toyota had the balls to provide more than a 400W inverter derived from a 2005 Tacoma. Oh, and tow hooks and Auto 4HI.

If you think of it, GM is also not giving the radar cruise away. That was one of the deciding factors for the Sequoia.

For those with LC300 envy this vid shows the basic Aussie version with no locker tackling some nasty terrain. Sequoia TRDOR package will be available that includes a rear locker. Same sweet Crawl Control and SRA as the LC300 but a bit roomier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LHhXjmzWds

Was really hoping the new Sequoia was going to blow me away enough to get rid of my wife’s Pro 4Runner. We both liked the 4R, but never loved it. She preferred driving my truck, and with me mainly driving my work truck, the 4R just sat there unless we needed to haul the family of 4 and the two dogs.

Missed my old 2014 Jeep SRT ever since I sold it (and her camry) to get the wife her 4R since we were getting married. The Jeep was 7 years and 80K miles of zero issues, and pure smiles. For some reason thought it made sense to get rid of it.

Gave her the truck, and fixed my mistake. Figured we would never get more for her trading in her 4R, and if a rig was going to not get driven much, it was going to be what I wanted.

I'm looking forward to realworld reviews. It will fill the LC200 niche somewhat. It will be very mod-friendly for lifts. I absolutely hate the reduced cargo area but I have more need for cargo volume than offroad capability. And Toyota, can you please get the sweet Torsen center diff into it? WTF, it's right there in the parts bin, jebus.

True. Deleting the fulltime 4HI is a headscratcher, that's one of the great features the 2G Sequoia has. And making it hybrid only is a headscratcher. I want a flat cargo floor from the hatch to the front seats, don't need 583 torque with a 6" hump in the middle of the cargo area. And no rolldown rear window.

Even first gens (at least late models) have full time 4hi.. super disappointed 3G is missing this as well. It's a must for my wife and frequent winter driving.

Saw this vid. As I expected the Toyota engineer says that in their customer surveys "most" said they don't need 4A. I wonder how the questions were phrased.

I wonder how they will market it. Market it as a beer budget Land Cruiser with hybrid standard on all trims? That makes sense, a step above domestics in that regard. I don't recall if there will be a TRDOR package available on the SR5, that would market well I think.

Brings in another level of beer budget people that always wanted a Land Cruiser, adds capability but don't have to step up to the TRD Pro.
