I think the lack of pano roof has something to do with the standard Pro roof rack. Hope I’m totally wrong and it is an option.

I was thinking that initially as well, but the only part of the glass that moves is the front half. The rack sits higher than the roof mounts so this doesn't appear that it would be affected by the moonroof - unless Toyota's thinking is to not offer the pano becuase your views of the sky would be obstructed. :monocle:

Maybe they don't want you dropping something onto the pano?

I'm disappointed with the '23. The cargo space reduction stands out. Then lack of fulltime 4HI, then complexity in the engine bay and hybrid only. https://www.motortrend.com/news/2023-toyota-sequoia-first-look-review/

I doubt it will get superb fuel mileage over the 5.7 especially at high altitude. Rolldown rear window is gone. There is no THERE there IMO.

Sequioa looks badazz! Saw that on TFL when they first released it.

Side Bar: Rumors that Land Cruiser may not be done in the US, as TFL showed one with all the drapes covering it up. And they said something about a diesel too.

    Hmmm. :monocle:

As much as it sucks to say....I think I'm just keeping my '21 pro sequoia until I need more cargo room behind the 3rd row and I'll prob buy a yukon xl with the 3.0 diesel unless something changes in vehicles in the future. I'm a father of 4 as of a week ago and will need the cargo room in the future. Right now I'm making it work. I just wish Toyota offered a bigger version:(. Oh well. Can't have it all. Gonna be tough tho since we generally keep our vehicles for the long haul and don't trade out every 5 years or less.

Same here. AT4 with 6.2 for me - I would never reach DPF regen conditions with my short trips.

I like the AT4 package. But doesn't offer diesel because of approach angles. I drive about 40-60 miles daily depending on the day. Work alone is about 20 miles from my house

    Congrats on the new addition!

The new Sequoia sure looks nice and fancy with all the upgrades and tech but I'm keeping my dated 2nd gen until someone totals it. I lived without all these features for this long, I can keep living without it for a few more years.

You don't know what you are missing until you have it. I had similar arguments with my parents after we bought our flat screen TV and they refused to give up their old tube. Their argument was they would keep it until it broke which of course would be forever. Eventually they bought a new TV and have not looked back.

Now, imagine that you have a nice flat screen TV (say, with an expensive IPS panel), but it doesn’t have any Internet functionality (can be had via an external device). The newer model that replaced it has apps, but the panel is cheaper (TN) and the image quality is worse. The price of the new model is higher.
    Thoughts?

A TV is relatively inexpensive in my mind. I'm not one to spend over $1,000 on a TV even though I see great picture quality 8k OLED ultra high definition TVs on display at the stores. Do I want to go out and upgrade my current TV? No because I don't want to fall into the trap of "wasting" money and buying all the latest and greatest tech out there. Another reason is that I don't watch TV much but regardless, we are getting off topic.

Automakers will "refresh" vehicles and come out with new features and whatnot every few years to get people to jump to the new cars and trap consumers in the never ending buying and debt cycle. The 2nd gen came out in 2008 and did not have any major changes all the way to 2022. The car still gets me from point A to B in comfort. Sure, there are features and what not that I wish I had (like the Blu ray player, the newer dash console, apple carplay, TSS) but I'm also content with not spending the money and with what I already have. I don't need to have the latest and greatest, I just need something reliable and cheap. Certainly, this viewpoint is not for everyone and I'll continue being jealous of your awesome new Sequoia.

I think that removing core vehicle functionality (torsen AWD, IRS, cargo space, rear sliding glass) is significant for many.

I think they’re core aspects of how the vehicle functions.

    • The cargo space is a huge miss, which is related to the IRS. Will the new SRA be of much great benefit? Great for off-roading I suppose, but this is a heavy SUV and bigger than a land cruiser. Guess it’ll be great for the broverlanding crowd.

    • The sliding rear window turned my 4Runner into a small truck. I hauled 12’ lumber in that all the time. I guess you could do that in the new Sequoia, but its rear glass is going to be open and flopping around on its hydraulic supports instead of tucked neatly into the rear liftgate.

    • The AWD was something it seems every previous Sequoia owner loved. It made that giant vehicle far more nimble in adverse weather conditions.

These are arguably some of the most utilitarian aspects of the previous gen, and they’ve just been scrapped. I’m somewhat still interested, but it just seems like some strange choices were made. It’s doesn’t compete with the Suburban (it’s not even a Tahoe in terms of cargo space), and it sure isn’t a Land Cruiser (missing that AWD, built-in 25-yr service life, and insane suspension travel that even IFS LCs are known for).

And comparing a tube TV to a new flat panel is not representative to the difference in the 2nd - 3rd Gen Sequoia.

I understand new features are nice, but if he prefers features like fold flat storage, torsen, roll down rear window, etc then the new features won’t have as much impact on his overall driving experience.

Not to mention any financial factors.

I never used the rear window when I had my 4Runner to be honest. I've driven with it open a couple times on my LC and never had a problem with it "flopping" around. Granted it's a LC so it is built differently.

Pretty much my line of thoughts also. Utilitarian usage features were dropped. Cargo volume, fulltime 4HI, rolldown rear glass. We'll look at used 3G's in a few years, see what the realworld MPG is, decide if they're worth the reduced cargo volume and lack of the sweet Torsen center diff.

I spose a good thing is the TRDOR package with rear locker and Crawl Control. Would be nice if it included at least the 400W inverter.

So the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro is $66,805 + destination fee with Capstone at $73,530 + destination fee. All the stuff I read has the 2023 Sequoia pricing capping out around $71k, which would be Capstone. If both trucks are similarly priced, the new Tundra is now really overpriced like the Sequoia has previously been.

Have you looked at new Tahoe pricing? It caps off at $90k.

I would never buy a Tahoe. My wife had a Blazer and that's the last Chevy we own. Spending $90k on a Chevy is crazy talk.

I wanted to buy a Sequoia in 2018, but couldn't justify the cost or lousy towing so I bought the Tundra. 2023 black Sequoia TRD Pro will be the best looking truck Toyota makes. It'll drive nicely and now it can tow 9k. Problem is people will pay $10k over and I can't do that.

That's understandable, and I agree with you. My guess is the new SR5 will be around $50k, so why not buy that and add a TRD Pro grille?

Yeah, the elevated cargo floor is a no go for me. I need cargo height and volume with the 3rd row folded. And a rolldown rear window on the fly to vacate farts. And the sweet Torsen center diff.

Bunch of bleh for many of us, but if you're one of the 3500 people that actually BOUGHT an LC200 each year I can see the '23 Seq as a budget Land Cruiser. The lamentations about the LC300 being NLA is laughable since they sold so few units. Probably has a bit more cargo volume than the LC300, SRA, rear locker, Crawl Control. There will be aftermarket galore for overlanders with the '23 Seq and no need for an LX600.

but non-the less it is the market and the pricing in the market. Even entry costs are STARTING at 51-52k - just the way it is. Is it ridiculous - yes; can families really afford a family vehicle starting at that price - I would argue to say it's not practical; did I find a solution - yes, I bought a used '17 Expedition EL that was practically new in almost every sense of the word, has the same motor as the "new ones" but with a more arguably reliable transmission. Push and pulls, pros and cons - a person just needs to be aware of what they're buying into rather than picking up the shinny on the table.

Same as above - "core" features are what a person defines for themselves in needs. Do I think some of these "core features" are a miss - most certainly, but I also have a family of 7 so I can't even consider a Sequoia and just hope some day Toyota Corp will read my yearly emails about the need for a truly family vehicle (even the new Siennas are joke compared to the '12 we owned previously).
