Sequoia will have high mount camera viewable on that rearview so no need to worry about the dog blocking the actual mirror. I had something similar on the Subaru Ascent, and it was a nice touch that let me load the back up until I couldnt see out of the rear window at all. My kids used to ask for me to turn it on even when there was nothing in the cargo area so they could watch what was going on behind us like a movie

Fixed front airdam won't work for me. I understand it's for fuel economy like the Big Three do. I guess I could remove it. Where I live the County snowplows come through and shunt snow and ice blocks onto the curb. If there's 10 inches of snow there's 16 inches piled up on the curb. Gotta bust through it to get to the plowed street.

Yeah, we don't get snow in Houston but this would be the first thing to go for me.

It's not fixed, it's retractable and lowers based on speeds - at least on the Tundra. Someone posted from the owner's manual on how it works and I believe it deploys over when traveling over 40mph.

I personally think the new Sequoia looks amazing. I think the new Tundra looks excellent too, especially the interior.

I never previously considered the Gen 2 Sequoia, but now that I'm hearing about it's unique transfer case (unlocked 4wd hi and low) fold flat into the floor seats, I'm beginning to look at the Gen 2 Sequoia because the new Sequoia disappoints me with the seats folded being high off the floor, the more basic transfer case and mandatory hybrid.

The interior of the Gen 2 Sequoia is pretty ugly in my opinion, especially now that the new one looks so amazing.

Unfortunately, with used vehicle prices through the roof, it is difficult to look at Gen 2 Sequoia at this time. But dang, yeah the new Sequoia is definitely the best looking FS SUV to me.

Will be interesting to see what the reasoning is behind that switch from active to fixed. On the Tundra it states that it stows automatically when in tow or 4WD modes

TRD Pro doesn't get one so no issue for my anticipated future rig

I mean have they said it's fixed, or just that pictures always show it down? Maybe those are just pre-prod vehicles, and the real ones will have retractable ones?

If I'm not mistaken, then air damn can be turned off to stay up or down. I thought they over-rode it for the shows to represent it while parked. But thought it was something you could turn off and/or remove. It'd be funny to let something like that stop someone from buying it. Lol.

If things keep going where people want to knock it, I may sell my LR pro sequoia I just got if/when I get one of the new ones. Seems like there may be a big market for the old ones....especially in LR:monocle:

IMO Toyota made a decent 4Runner replacement and called it a gen 3 Sequoia. I can see the overlanding crowd excited about the solid rear axle and some off-road goodies on the TRD Pro. It also lost some ground as the full-size family SUV.

Best compared to Land Cruiser because it basically is with a few body line and trim changes. Way bigger than the 4R. Those who spend a lot of time on trails like the 4R size.

Although easy to compare to the LC, it really isn't in terms of both where it is made (and what that entails) and features lacking (tow hooks, awd/full-time 4wd).

Yes, those damn tow hooks. Toyota says their Sequoia customer base doesn't "need" full time 4WD according to their surveys. It will get a tiny bit better MPG without it. The 4R can be equipped with full time 4WD and KDSS which would be just like my GX460 other than V8 and 6sp. (and $20k in fluff).

    I'm into overlanding.
It appears that the way the 2nd and 3rd rows fold cause a possible loss of vertical height in the Gen 3.
The Gen 2 has 35" at the hatch opening, and 37" to the ceiling on the interior, I'd like to see how the Gen 3 compares.

If it's less, not very appealing to me.

Can you imagine if the new 4Runner rear window doesn't roll down.

Honestly I barely ever used the rear window when I had my T4R, I must be in the minority compared to everyone on this board. Now that I have my LC I don't miss it at all.

This mental exercise helps me ‘justify’ some backwards engineering decisions made by Toyota in gen 3. I know this helps the Land Rover crowd when someone suggests the new Defender should have had Discovery nameplate.

I used the rear window on my 4Runner all the time. It practically turned the cargo area into a truck bed. I would fold the second row seats down, put a moving blanket or a towel on the rear windowsill, and then load it up with 12’ boards for a project. Incredibly useful. As it is with my short bed Tundra as well.

    Here’s a pic of 12’ cedar posts:

My Great Dane is almost touching the ceiling when he stands on the folded 3rd row. Any reduction will not be appreciated..

It looks like the batteries are beside the seats, not under (if you look on some of the videos, you see the vents in the front of the side humps which don't look like speakers but do look like the same vents as are under the rear tundra seats on the hybrid) May be wrong, but look at the vents. In the side of the humps it looks like speaker grills. In the top front, it looks like air vents. It's unlikely that's heat/ac vents, so it looks to me like battery vents. Although it could be vents all the way up from underneath the seat?

I was thinking about Great Dane owners when I saw the interior shots of the Gen 3 Sequoia. Definitely want to see someone measure it, maybe it's the same height as Gen 2? Doubt it though.

We currently sleep in the back of our Titan with a Leer cap when we go camping or overlanding. Was considering a FS SUV for comfort reasons, but can't consider anything with less vertical height. Once you get an air mattress back there, it'd be pretty uncomfortable with the floor so high.

For the life of me I can't understand wtf the front end of the tundra wasn't done exactly the same as this. This is exactly the look I've been talking about since we first laid eyes on the stupid tundra front end.

The new sequoia looks fricken amazing. If I was looking at a super expensive giant suv I'd pick one up. I don't even mind the capstone's chrome in that config with the red. Not that I'd be favouring that over the pro, but it looks good.

That'd be the straw that broke the camels back. There'd be uproar outside Toyota in Michigan demanding Sweers' resignation :D

But for real though, if he takes away that back window on the 4Runner too I will not be happy. I love it and use it all the time.

That looks great! for an extra 30 grand... lol. Also, all those extra mpg's are now deeply in the red. I like it though. except I don't like tires sticking out of the wheel wells. looks cheezy.

spot on - I find this more just a middle ground between the sequioa and the LC that we lost. I would not compare this to the 4R at all, cause if the 4R is going this direction, it's dead to me. the 5th gen is almost too big already - any bigger and it's no bueno on trails. The only reason I owned a 5th gen was cause I couldn't find a decent 4th gen w/ a V8 (or even the 6). I really really hope they move the 4R back to the 4th gen style and setup - better greenhouse, better size.

The 4th gen with a V8 was a blast to drive. So much more nimble and quick than the 5th gen. I miss my V8 and the less land boatish feel of the 4th gen dearly.
