I think it is caused by internal vent ducts not closing off properly. I’ve found that I can switch to floor or defrost etc and adjust fan speed, when I go back to original (whistle) setting it is often gone.

I wish this was true of the Tacoma. Granted its new but no amount of fiddling has helped. I agree I think one of the internal vent flaps is not closing off properly. Maybe over time enough dust and stuff would build up to fix it i don't know or its a defect in the shape of the flap or the vent. If I end up with a remedy for the Taco i'm sure it would apply to Tundras as well. I'll come back and update this forum on it.

I have a ‘22. Start the truck about 20K ago , my son in the passenger seat. Turn on auto at 70 deg. Hear a slight whistling sound. trying to figure out what is going on and where is it coming from. If I concentrate on it it’s annoying. So while Im driving and trying to figure this out , my son adjusts the right side dash vent by the window into the middle position (from slightly upwards) and the whistling instantly stops. What???
We were able to to turn on the whistling and off by very very slightly moving the right vent from middle position to slightly upwards.
This fixed the issue for me and it has not re appeared . Now I try to replicate this issue at 40K and there is no whistling in any vent position.

its one of those things we will have to go thru and it might just be a wear in issue. Like the loud wiper issue that the dealer couldn’t fix until I reached 30K and it magically went away on its own.

That’s just my experience. glad we have a place to discuss these issues

My 2024 goes in next week for its 5k miles/6 month service. I am also having them look into the HVAC whistle. I never noticed it until recently as the weather hasnt been cool enough to use the heat. This morning i set the HVAC at 80, Auto, Sync, and recirc and it was making the whistle pretty good. It does it until i adjust the temp cool enough to change what vents the air blows from. I am sure other positions and manual mode would do the same as well.

Has anyone successfully had the dealer fix this? @BoulderGT3 did your new parts help?

Both of my back windows this morning decided they didnt want to go up easily as well... drivers rear actually stopped on its own a few times. Its like something in the door is binding up. Both windows also tilt sideways on the way up now like something is causing some major resistance. Passenger front already had parts replaced due to the stutter when rolling down, but havent had the rolling up issue. It was cooler this morning and dewy so maybe thats why I havent noticed before.

They ordered a plenum but it hasn't come in. It's 75% better after the tech worked on the flapper door. Obviously, I don't notice it at all in the Summer. I may just leave it be.

Ah, gotcha! Didn’t know you were still waiting in the part. Hopefully that fixes it 100% for you.

I can live with the whistle if I could get some dang hot air out of the upper face vents. That’s more annoying to me at least. When it’s freezing out I want to be able to warm up my face and hands quickly and that’s tough to do in mine.

Just a random simple thing , when my rear vents are closed I noticed a whistle a few times , I usually leave them open but kids closed them , not sure that helps but something easy to check

I read that may be the cause, but mine are always open 100%. Practically check every time I drive my truck as my golden is usually in the back seat. Kid is rear facing so can’t get close to touching them either.

ok cool, just thought I’d throw that out there, hopefully they can fix it as that would drive me nuts

I was really praying I didn’t get a wind noise truck when I was waiting for my rig to be built , that would just kill it for me, but alas , it’s super quiet inside , I get 65 dB at interstate speeds, can’t ask for better than that

Sounds like you may have a diverter flap issue? When I switch mine to the upper vents I’ve got zero whistle.

I tried playing around with all the modes yesterday, but couldn’t duplicate the whistle (even in Auto). Granted, it was no longer 50’s out like it was when it whistled in the morning. I think once hvac plastics and everything else in the dash warms up that the whistle goes away. I was going to try again this morning but instead got more videos of my rear windows.

My drivers rear failed to go up 3-4 times this morning. It’s about 57 out and crystal clear. Little bit of morning dew and my rear windows can’t roll up… Not good when you live in the PNW.

Hahaha I don’t live on the coast and we don’t really use road salt in Oregon (we use cinder stone from our volcanoes) so rigs around here are practically 100% rust free! But yeah we get lots of rain winter and spring, but our summers are pretty dang dry.

A whistling HVAC vent usually means restricted airflow. Check for clogged filters, closed dampers, or undersized ductwork. Adjusting the vents or adding additional returns might help. If it persists, you may need to consult an HVAC installation in Citrus Heights pro like https://alphamechanicals.com/service-area/citrus-heights-hvac-service/ for proper airflow balancing.

Mine has been whistling pretty good with the mode set to feet/defrost. Recirculate or not. Just defrost and it does not whistle. I tried to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from one morning, but I couldnt quite figure it out. Sitting in the driver's seat it sounds like its coming from the passenger footwell. When sitting in the passenger seat it sounds like its coming from the driver's footwell... must be right in between.

I have this vent whistling noise in my '24 as well, anyone have any recent updates for a solution?
My truck goes in next week and this is one thing I asked if they could look at.
