Thanks Jay. I am putting the new LC one in my 2020 and then I can move the 2020 to the 2008.

I waited forever to take care of this. I've had my fan not even turn on multiple times and now that's its creeping into winter I can't keep putting this off. Just ordered with the Fred Anderson 25% off sale.

    $108.90 out the door.

I installed mine the other day. What a difference. Didn't realize how much more air it moves. And it's quiet!

I installed the new LC blower motor today, and what a difference! It's a perfect retrofit, and kind of a shame Toyota wouldn't reccomend these going forward. Only $30 CAD more than the reccomended replacement. The only notable difference is that the connector for the wiring harness is facing sideways, instead of downwards. Don't even mess around with anything aftermarket, or a direct part number replacement, you're wasting $. I used PN # 87103-60560.

The only thing I found kind of a pain was that this particular part was backordered for probably 6 weeks. I seen a couple of others on here having backorder issues also. My advice would be not to wait. If your current blower is making noise, running slower than before, just order this one and be patient. Great find by @Jowett !

totally agree that it is such a major improvement. However, the credit goes to @Jowett for finding the replacement part.

Whenever the "pros" on this forum say an install of a mod is going to take x amount of time, I know that usually will take me 3x. I was pleasantly surprised that, after seeing "15-20min" being reported, this actually took me 25 minutes!
The hardest part was realizing my body doesn't bend like it it used to.

DEFINITELY more air flowing, especially to the backseat vents.

I feel like nobody includes time for beer and bowl in these estimates.

It takes extra time when one has to remember what they are doing half way thru. Though I usually blame that on the kid.

this thread should be renamed "blower motor shipping issues with toyota dealerships" lol

i'm having the same issue. no air out of the vents, but the AC blows ice cold through the defroster. is this what you were experiencing? did the blower motor resolve it? i don't want to throw money at the problem but i'd rather try $140 & 30 minutes than have my dash torn apart to replace the blend doors

My blower was just intermittent. So it was fine or nothing at all. Does your fan still blow more or less air relative to your dial position? If so, it may have something to do with the blend doors.

not really sure about that. I know some guys in the forum have done this, irrc which ones though. I would have to dig around to see if I can find out what they did. Sorry I don't have more answers for you. Maybe @RainMan_PNW might know more about this. He's the wizard in electronics...

Depends on if it’s the blend doors themselves or the control servos that move them. You can get to the servos without having to tear things apart quite as far as a full core replacement. I had one fail in my 2008 after about 9 years.

When mine failed, it defaulted to defrost only. Took me about 3 hours to do it, but I was also taking breaks to do my weekly chores when I came down off the mountain. I did have to drill one hole in the dash support structure to get one screw.
I used the rubber band method to hold things in place when reassembling and used a split straw to hold the lever that has to be pinned in place for assembly.

is your 2008 the bench seat version or center console version? access seems a bit different. i am fanfuckintastic at taking things apart. putting them back together is another story.

The damper servo assembly. If you look on the side of hvac box by the throttle pedal, you will see the assembly mounted to the side. It controls where the airflow goes and the temp. When mine failed, I was up in the mountains and had to have warm air because I was sitting in my truck all day for work. So, I took the original assembly off and used rubber bands to hold the blend door on hot and the airflow damper to dash while waiting for the replacement to get delivered.

one thing my truck does is creak and groan from behind the dash when i start the truck up, and then when i shut it off. sounds like it's trying to do something that it can't.

whats the difference between 87103-60560 and 87103-60481?

i know there's an old part # 87103-60390 that was replaced by the 481 model. OP here used the 390 which is now 481
