Since I have to tear out the dash tomorrow, how bad is replacing HVAC parts? Air is only blowing out the top defrost and there is a lid click/pop on startup behind the lower center controls

Sounds like the blend door there are a few YouTube videos on replacing the blend door without removing the dash. I have the same issue but I am just dealing with it and haven’t replaced the part

Mines been clicking/squeaking. New LC blower ordered from Sparks today and bought an anemometer to test windspeed. Going to do a before and after test to see if there is an improvement in airflow. I'll report back once parts arrive.

Curious to hear the results of the test. I haven't yet ordered the LC blower, but it's on my list of items to do.

Anemometer is in. Sparks had to get the blower from their national warehouse, said it would take 3-6 days before they ship it. Hoping it ships this week, but we will see.

I have been playing out some variables in my head. The easiest scenario: Create a mount that can remain consistent throughout the testing. Thinking to use the vent on right hand side of steering wheel, left of radio. Test will be done on the lowest speed as well as the highest speed. Anyone have any input on that? ie: what vent to test, what speeds, etc?

Hang tight guys, parts are in but I live in Houston and my area was hit with some serious weather, were on day 4 of no power.

05/22/24 Edit - Day 6 of no power. Per our provider we expect it back this evening. Storm was wild, had 80 mph gusts in my neighborhood.

Goal is to get this AC Blower experiment done on Saturday.

Test is done. I had a toddler bouncing around in the cab with me, so I chose the fast and easy test method. I left default unit of measurement for wind speed at m/s.

Anemometer tested on the vent to the right of driver/left of radio bezel.

All vents were left open, including rear in center console.

RPMs were left at idle. Vent/fan speed on high.

Air ran for roughly a minute on each test and I allowed the meter to come to a resting point before using the reading it showed as the data.

LC unit is much smaller. Definitely quieter. And the changes in speed seem like more of a gradual progression rather than just a quick jump from each speed to the next.

    Unit comparisons

    The test results...

So it's safe to say the LC unit flows 7.5% more air? 4.3/4.0 is that how to interpret the info? If so, that's great to hear.

I noticed it. But it wasn’t like installing a supercharger kind of difference… Still very happy with the swap, though.

I would say a sample size of 1 makes that not a safe thing to say at all. :p:D
That said when mine inevitably dies… again, I’m going to pick one of these LC models up.

With the AZ heat any improvement in airflow is greatly appreciated and welcome.

    Many on the way.
Now is a great time to buy as Toyota TPCO parts dealers have a sale going on through the 30th. An additional 20% off over whatever discount they already offer, plus free shipping over $75.

This is the 87103-60481 through Fred Anderson Toyota, there are many other dealers to search. https://autoparts.fredandersontoyota.com/

I'd agree with Houston weather. We drove around a lot this weekend with a truck full including dog and I felt like I could actually turn the AC off of full blast once it cooled down. Weekend prior to the install I felt like I could not cool down enough.

I ordered 1. We drove to Big Bend National Park this weekend and a/c was barley keeping up. I will gladly take an extra 7.5% more air. :D

I have had a ticking motor for about a year small leaf hitting a fan or card in the spoke (how old are you really). My stock one ticked from the day I bought the truck (2011 CrewMax 275K). OEM Warranty Replaced the 1st one. I went with an aftermarket one on the second and it always been louder than the stock but not by much. Its been in there 6 years.

I ordered a new stock OEM from Toyota. It got here Tuesday. I saw this thread yesterday and went down the rabbit hole. Advance Auto has a premium motor https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p...ith-wheel-76501/12552675-P?selectedStore=6835 level built in Canada (not China). I tried both the Stock Tundra and the Lexus Model from Advance. To my surprise the Advance model is silent as a blower and the OEM is a tad louder. The air coming out the vents seems to be on a gradual ramp up and down compared to the stock which sounds like a truck and seems to be more abrupt in speed change.

My cab is back to being quiet.

I would like this very much!

On the blower subject, increased air won't help much with cooling. The faster the air goes over the coils the less time the coils have to cool it. However I do understand the appreciation for just more air moving around in hot climates, I'm in TX. I wonder if there might be a way to just step the voltage up one notch from what it is, thus turning the fan just a little faster.

This post showed up at just the right time for me. Ordered the 87103-60481. Mine started squeaking 2 days ago and I have a 3 week road trip coming up in September. Hopefully this will keep things quiet and cool.

I know, my shipping cost said $129 but when you put it in the cart and proceed the discounts take care of that. Because they have free shipping over $75

Just replaced my blower motor with the Land Cruiser upgraded blower. Took all of 10 minutes - hoping it increases the air flow.
