    I have a friend that works in the petroleum industry (Oil and Gas Software). He said, and I quote, "So Dorian has already fucked up my life and cost me a lot of money...that is my ex wife's name."

    Agreed! I've been brainstorming just this very thing. Timing is going to be the struggle though...isn't it always though? He heads home for leave but then to SOI and then off to Recon school on the west coast.

    Yeah Ron, my mom is in York county over by Lake Wylie, which is more inland. My thinking is getting hung up in as mass evacuation crawling down the interstate. Gonna wait and see

    Planned this vacation 8 months ago. Picked the week after labor day thinking it would be the least busy. Our last year before the little one starts school.

    I’ve been through 5 hurricanes in my lifetime living in Puerto Rico, the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Florida. Everyone one of them impacted water service in one way or another. Sometimes water came out of the faucet, but we were warned it was not potable. Other times no water came out. This would last from a few days to about a week and a half until clean, potable normal water service was restored.

    Forgot to add, this is the reason we would fill every bathtub, bucket, pots and containers we had in the house with water before a hurricane hit. We also bought as much bottled water we could find in the stores - if there was any left. After a hurricane hit, we’d take sponge baths and use baby wipes to clean ourselves off. The few times we were brave we went into nearby gator and water-moccasin infested swamps and bayous with a bottle of shampoo in our hands to wash off - amazing how dirty and sweaty you get in hot, humid weather when there’s no A/C available for days if not weeks. Nowadays, with brain-eating amoebas being more prevalent in the sediment of warm water bodies, I’m not sure if that would be a good idea.

    Anyway, water was always the number one thing we’d stock up on the most, with gas being the second. I don’t remember ever being hungry or running out of food during those times. We always seemed to have enough non-perishables to keep us fed. But water and gas were always the two biggies for us back then.

    Spoke to my neighbor, he was working 17 hour shifts at NOAA and now going to 12’s until the event has passed. Said once the storm arrives around SC it’s going to pick up speed and really move, over 20 mph. Here is the text I sent to my work boss around noon;

    I spoke to my neighbor who is a meteorologist with NOAA. He told me Wilmington is going to get slammed, as are the outer banks. Charleston SC should be ok. Wilmington could see winds 100-120 mph. Up in the Raleigh area, Wednesday evening and Thursday all day will be the worst. Raleigh area is literally on the edge of 6-7” of rain to 1-3”. Friday will be the tail end and probably just windy. Fayetteville will not get hit as bad as what Florence did to it, but will see it mainly late Wednesday (rain bands) and Thursday. That’s all I got, if I hear more I’ll relay.

    It has peeled away from FL. My county has predicted 1-3" of rain and maybe 40pmh winds. Alert level has been lowered to green. Business as usual again.

    Well, I officially have storm fatigue. I have a headache and lack of motivation. I'm done with this. This has been terribly drawn out and I DGAF now. But, good luck to those that are still potentially affected. My supplies are still out, but I'm not gonna watch this shit anymore. Wake me up when it's knocking on my door.

    Sure, if they like exploring a forest and being away from familiar scenes. I was thinking just cruise around for a couple of hours, have some lunch, then cruise around for another hour or so then head out. I'm gonna make a post in the Florida thread in the South East regional forum.

    Me too, but I have to say, our TV guy said “look once it hits SC area it’s going to accelerate” around 6pm. The NOAA guy, who isn’t on TV, told me the same thing at noon. Hopefully he’s right. Last year he helped me out big time with Hurricane Florence predictions since I had a big trip planned.

    Video and phone interviews on CNN said parts of the islands have water up to the roof and tops of trees. They could get storm surge up to 23 feet. :eek2:
