Sand bag lines at the local public works are about 1 hour right now. Luckily, my house is a block home on raised foundation. All the doors are up 10-18 inches above grade. I'm still a little stressed out about it though. If it follows projected path, we could see 18-25" of rain.

Please be sure to clown the shit media when you can! Like the whole “news guy leaning into the wind for drama” gag, then a civilian walks by just fine. I really despise the media.

The winds will push the ocean waves well inland all the way up the coast for days.

It's hard to tell these days. Make no mistake, the media LOVE hurricanes. They sensationalize them to death. It could either be horrible or nothing will happen. That has been the case the past few years.

Well first off, hopefully this thing fizzles to nothing. I'm trying to talk my daughter, son in law, let's not forget my soon to be 1year old grandson in to driving up here to Charleston. She's hardheaded like her mom :eek2::rofl:. Hopefully she makes a wise decision like her dad would:D.

Parents are still in Florida, just inland from Daytona. They are sheltering in place. One day they’ll smarten up and leave.

I believe I have convinced my friends in Jacksonville to relocate over to the Western panhandle area until the storm moves north.

That’s one ominous looking eye. Man oh man. I sailed through the southeast quadrant of Katrina when it was in the Atlantic... south of Port Canaveral... it was just a weak hurricane then and it was one hell of a ride. I still have video of the seas... they were absolutely insane. Waves were coming every which way. Can’t imagine the detestation should this thing hit. Plus, it’s the Kingtide in Florida as well, has the potential to be especially devastating.

As for the complaints about the forecasts - what are they supposed to do? Under forecast and hope for the best? They’re going to warn a lot more people than they need to... because everyone wants to “ride it out” until the actual storm arrives. Then people have second thoughts, are terrified and call 911. If this thing comes on shore as a Cat 4, it’ll be Andrew again, only worse. There’s lots more people in Florida now. This could be a once in a generation storm. Or it could hook northwest and head towards the Carolinas... stranger things have happened. Stay safe down there!

I'm still amazed by the stupidity I see on the news. Why do people not keep basic necessities on hand? When I lived in FL I always kept several cases of water, extra fuel, and other supplies on hand. The people scrambling now to find water are idiots. If you have to wait in line for 8 hours because you failed to plan, you deserve it.

    Ummm....no. you're guaranteed -40 every year. That's a deal breaker. A hurricane threat occasionally, I'll take it
Although the hurricanes seem to be getting more aggressive. So maybe I have to go somewhere else, maybe Australia? They don't seem to have too many whether events. -40, not happening. I had the opportunity to work 3rd shift on the coldest night ever here, -3F. Frozen snot on my mustache and ice everywhere. Not going to do that again.

They have typhoons down in Oz. Unfortunately no matter where you go there is always some type of freaky weather.

It only hits -40 here a few times a year thankfully. Maybe for a week or two total over the long winters when we get cold snaps. Outdoor jobsites generally shut down at -40, especially the cranes since the cold affects the metals' tensile strength.

-3F is jeans with a hoodie layered under a softshell weather! I don't even plug my truck in until it drops below that. LOL :D

All this said, if the temp rises above 75 - 78F, I'm ready to die. I can't stand hot weather. I keep our house below 65F as best I can for most of the year.

When it gets below 70 I put on long pants and a sweatshirt. But I will fish from the beach with a hoodie and shorts. House stays between 75 and 80F. But I'm not in charge of the thermostat

CA has no aggressive weather. Just fires and earthquakes. Both you get used to. They become part of life. That scene in the LA Story where they continue having lunch while there's an earthquake happening is fairly accurate. Whenever a wildfire started, I would always blast Los Angeles is Burning by Bad Religion really loud while in traffic.

Left Florida in 2006 but still have a lot of family there. I also spend a fair amount of time in Cherry Point / New Bern and those folks are still recovering from last years storm. It's starting to look like the storm might turn enough to head out to the North Atlantic and miss land - sure hope it does.
