Probably right. I checked a couple VINs from earlier deliveries from this thread and they all show the page doesn't exist error. So, it looks like once they go "G" they then drop off.

 

I'm officially hoping mine drops off tomorrow.

 

Congrats guys, hope you have your new trucks soon. I still don't even have an allocation yet. Patiently waiting, lol.

 

Hopefully it comes soon for you. It's crazy to me that getting someone to sell and deliver me a truck has been this difficult. Crazy times.............

 

I was really lucky to snag an allocated Platinum someone else reserved but then dropped. Supposed to arrive by rail on 4/21 then go to truck transport. Hoping that arrives quicker than the ETA like others have noted.

 

When I wrote this post, and during the entire allocation process from temp vin to actual vin, the truck has always been on the website. The dealer told me yesterday it had not arrived. This morning my truck, along with another truck that had the same delivery ETA, are gone from the website. There were 9 trucks in various stages of the allocation process…there are now only 7. Hopefully, this means my truck was delivered late yesterday evening. We will see in a little bit, when the dealer opens up.

 

Just got the call. She is here! Of course, it is raining today but I'm going anyway LOL

Just got the call as well. Picking mine up tomorrow! It’s an hour away so I need to coordinate with wifey to pick it up.

 

As long as I have a temporary VIN, and my dealers website doesn't show a final VIN, does that mean it does not exist? It is still in category "A" and I am just trying to get an idea of when it would potentially be built and ready

Correct. The whole time mine had a temp vin it was "A" and there was no ETA. Once it's built, you stop being able to track it and at that point you can either get a VIN from your dealer or it should show up on their site with the new VIN. At least that's how mine and some others I've seen have worked.

Your dealer should be able to give you an estimate of build date now though.

How long does it take to get a vin number assignment? I just put a deposit on a truck tonight.

 

Do you have an actual allocation or are you just on a dealers list?

If the latter, and you're looking for a limited or above be ready for multiple months.

 

I put a deposit on a Tundra Limited with TRD Off Road package back in January, and still waiting to hear back from the dealer.

 

Ugg. That doesn't bode well for me seeing this truck in the summer.

 

I was in the same boat, ended up just calling pretty much every dealership in the country to find something close to what I wanted! (still took months). Don't wait for your dealer.

 

You won't get a permanent VIN until the truck is set to be built and on the assembly line.

 

So they don’t order them with the manufacture as soon as they get the deposit? Do they just wait to see what is in each allocation and then notify someone with a deposit that matches that request? I was just told that yesterdays allocation only had 170 Tundras for all of New England. What a PITA.

 

Toyota don't do build-to-order, they basically just make what they make and everyone fights for what they want from the pool. There's an "allocation" system that you'll hear a lot about on the forums, each dealership is given an allocation and then they can trade with other dealers in the network based on their customers needs.

So if production date is 5/2/22, does that mean it starts being built on that date and the final VIN will be assigned around then? If that's the case, any idea when it would be complete and moved to freight?

 

That's typically the date it's set to be completed. At that point you should be able to get the permanent VIN and the permanent VIN will show as "F" with a blank ETA for a day or two before updating with the estimated window (5-6 days) of when it will arrive at the dealer.

 

Ah okay, that is great to hear, looks like I should hopefully have it by mid-May then?
