Here was my setup for pressing the new ball joints into place. This is using the $50 rental O’Reilly set that is free when you return it.

I seriously hope that everyone knows that tool rentals like this are free. They charge you up front, then when you return it within 48 hrs, it refunds your card. All you need is a debit or cc that will float the amount for a few days. This was lost on me when I first got into this stuff and was always so afraid of wasting money.

Dang I should of went to oreilly to get my rental tools. I got some rental tools from autozone but the kits don’t have many options to choose from.

O’Reilly was my go to for rental. I did my entire 4wd swap with hand tools and stuff I could rent. Minus an impact here and there for stubborn bolts.

Advance Auto was cheapest on fluids, O’Reilly had the rentals and I avoided Autozone like Trump avoids taxes.

Im not saying a balljoint press wont punch a hole through 16 ga steel, but im not not saying that. I did some work for a gasket shop that also rebuilt hydraulic cylinders and made lots of adapters out of shaft off-cuts.

Working late! Keep it up! The next side should be a breeze.

Did you remember the retaining clip on the OEM ball joint? I remember when I did mine they were covered in dirt, and stuff. I pressed, and pressed, and pressed, and pressed. Didn't budge. I even bent the C-clamp style press....

Finally I thought to look for a clip.:facepalm:that was my major malfunction.......

Lmao I spent like a day making sure I had everything I needed and how to do it. But I thought I could jimmy the bal points in without the tools. I was wayyyy wrong lol. Next time I’m gonna make sure I get all the tools I need before starting.

Also here’s how I got the ball point out using the tool. The rental from autozone doesn’t really have the correct parts so it’s a pain to get positioned because it was slipping and falling all over the place. But it works when it’s finally positioned well lol

edit: I also hammered it down when it was too stiff to twist then I just repeated the process until it popped.

I had to heat the threaded part to get the ball joint "stud" to pop out of the threaded tube.

I completely removed my spindles/knuckles stuck them in the tailgate seam between the bed, and tailgate to act as a second pair of hands. I work alone typically.

That's why you keep the nut threaded up to the top of the stud: it distributes the force so the end doesn't mushroom. Works on any taper-fit joint.

Never understood the blocking/ignoring of folks. We all can be assholes at some point in time but even assholes can share good info from time to time !

On topic....this thread has been entertaining and knowledgeable that was both a How to and How Not To !

It works wonders! I never understood it either until I used it. The other nice option feature is eliminating signatures which take up valuable reading space.

Yeah. I don’t do phone internet time so when on the main vein when all I see are half page sigs it got old. I saw the function to eliminate sigs and man! my reading time became easier. Eliminates clutter from the screen.
