May get called upon to help clean up a small campground if a storm hits. Most likely will have to be entirely self sufficient until commercial power gets restored. I'm thinking if there is a way to easily pull fuel from the 38 gallon tank for the generator and saws it would save me a few trips filling cans. Rather not resort to sucking on a hose.

Plumbing in a T fitting and valve in to the fuel return line?

The fill neck has an anti-siphon or anti-rollover type valve in it so sucking from a hose won't work.

Cans really aren't a safe option since the bed is already packed and the cans would need to go inside the TT.

What about a storage type rack on the trailer tongue or off the rear bumper?

Drill a hole in the bottom of the tank. Lots of a-holes did it over the summer. Fastest way to drain the tank.

Second this, grab a little trail hitch carrier like this https://hftools.com/app62660. I have a large one I can carry my snowblower or grill on but a small one will suffice for some gas cans and you'll probably find other uses for it. I used mine to drive around and collect unused fire wood from campsites after people left camp.

Please don't mess with your fuel lines over something that seems easily solved. If you know a storm may hit, can't you just stash some gas there at the site, or at the very least, make two trips without gear and just gas? Not sure how this is really a problem.

You’re towing a travel trailer and have no room in the bed? What’s in the bed and why isn’t it in the trailer?

It's pretty full. And there are already gas cans in there too. Moving anything else to the trailer would mean moving it out anytime the trailer is occupied. We are to be gone 7 months. BTW, there are bikes mounted to the front and rear of the trailer.

This idea came about because some years ago the Ohio State Patrol had a fitting under the hood of their cruisers that allowed them to transfer gasoline from their tank to a motorist that had run out of gas.

I guess no one here has heard of that happening. Oh well. :frusty:

Yeah I mean its definitely something you could probably do but do you really want to be cutting into you own fuel lines? The rate that fuel would travel out of them would be so slow I cant imagine how a car could efficiently transfer fuel from one into another. Have you ever fueled up a vehicle with a 5 gallon gas can? Even then you're like wow, this is taking forever compared to how fast 5 gallons comes out of a pump.

I understand all this but don't even know how far I will be required to travel to even get fuel. There would definitely be no cutting into the fuel lines on a 1 yr old truck, that's a given. If if was possible to tap into a fuel system pressure tap or return line to safely and easily use some of the 38 gallons in the truck tank it might save me a whole lot of time and driving.

I guess my hang up - and probably others - taking the gas from your 38 gallon tank isn’t saving you a trip anywhere. You can carry X gallons between your truck and cans. You’re just robbing Peter to pay Paul taking out of your truck tank. If you’re that far from a gas pump the LAST thing you want to be doing is be siphoning off your mode of transport because you can’t ride away on generators and chainsaws.

Leaving enough gas in the Tundra for a 50 mile trip to refuel would extend my stay by about 5 days. I already carry 3, 2.5 gal and 1, 5 gallon can MT in the back. Those would be filled right before I arrive. Strapping 5 more 5 gallon cans to the rig Jed Clampett style and after unloading the TT and bed go for a gas run may be my only option.
I'm just hoping this ends up being nothing more than a brainstorming session and this tropical disturbance doesn't form up and hit the Gulf. Last one that hit was Sally and our campground is 10 miles west of the eyewall. They were a week without power and Sally was a Cat 2 when it hit. We leave here the 27th taking the scenic route and are stopping at Jamison Alabama the last night before our final destination. From there we will hold if the Gulf gets hit bad.
    Fingers crossed nothing happens.
