Just curious how picky Y'all are about paint. Our Tundra had some scratches when we bought it (new) and we wanted them fixed. Not to be a difficult customer but when you buy a new truck it should be "new" should it not? When we got it back the paint had been burned through the clear coat and had to go back. 2 weeks later (mind you I have driven it for less that 500 miles) we got it back today and it has to go back as it has swirl marks real bad and you could see right where they ran the buffer . Would this bother you?

    Everything. Literally.
I’m crazy ocd about my paint. Bought my truck used with a few small scratches, had them touched up the next week. Wasn’t happy with the touch ups, had them done again. Had some swirls, had my truck detailed and waxed immediately. I can’t handle scratches, swirls, dents or the like.
So you’re not alone. I’m not a perfectionist, per say, but when it comes to my truck, OCD all day.

I'm pretty tolerant about stuff but scratches in a brand new $50K ain't cool. Ask to see GM or put in a call to Toyota USA in Plano, TX. Yelp might not hurt either.

yeah I knew better than to trust them with it, we should have walked from it to begin with. I just love the damn truck, we have told them we want a new truck and will see were that goes.

It would bug me. I had paint and body work done on mine already (a horrible, sad story for another thread maybe, someday). When I went to pick it up, I saw, barely, slight drip marks, when side lit. I talked to the owner of the auto body shop and pointed it out. Lucky me, this shop lived up to their stellar reputation: guy set me up with a finisher guy who polished it until I was satisfied. I felt pretty uncomfortable at the time, but it was an effective way to make sure they understood what I was seeing, and that I would be happy when they finished.

You might already know, but I gather @coosbaybaker is an expert on vehicle paint, and, I can verify 'cause he's helped me get on the right track, @WarEagleSteve is an expert on detailing (including cool spit tests to help you figure out what can be fixed by detailing vs. what needs new paint). Maybe if you have specific questions, they could guide you. Good luck!

I feel like we would have been better off to leave the scratches, they have butchered the paint trying to get them out.

Haha! I wish I could remember what thread it was, probably last week, that I read someone else call on the great and knowledgeable @WarEagleSteve and he showed up with great advice about how to do a quick finger check. I'm hoping he'll see these smoke rings and bring you his wisdom now.

To be fair, I had a bad collision-in-a-brand-new-vehicle experience; but an excellent bodywork experience... but only because I stood my ground about getting it done right before I signed off on the work. What I meant is, I think it was a good thing I was allowed to meet with the detailer who polished it out after I pointed out what I saw to the boss. It took out the middle-man trying to explain it to the guy actually doing the work, and all the associated misunderstandings about what needed fixing. And it got done in about 20 minutes. With some cool purple polisher I think I also saw on a recent thread... on which either @WarEagleSteve or @coosbaybaker were raining wisdom.

So obviously since they buffed through the clear , they had to paint it ....and then they buffed out their paint job and it has swirls in it....is this correct?

correct, and in addition more of the paint is now affected than before. the crew cab door is now a mess and was not before. Its like they tried to buff the whole side to make it look better and messed it up.

So it was the front door that was screwed up originally , then they blended the color into the rear door im assuming....and now the rear door looks bad...is this right ?

the whole rest of the truck is flawless, and I am normally not a picky person. I absolutely love the truck as much as a person who has driven a truck for 500 miles can love one.

Does the dealer have a bodyshop....or did they send it out to an independent bodyshop?

Honestly scratches do bug me....and your situation where the shop has made it worse would really piss me off.. BUT.. i really have more important things to worry about in life. I dont have time to polish my truck and worry about it being perfect. If i did have time, i would be doing something more important. To me, my truck is just a tool.. I use it and shit happens. Yea i had a couple micro scratches when it was new but i really dont want anyone else touching my truck and take a chance at fvcking it up like you had happen. My truck is dirty as shit but it does not go thru any auto wash and when i do wash it, it rains the next or day after next anyway so WHATEVER. lol Not trying to impress anyone with a polish perfect shiny truck.

Agreed, it's not a 1 type fixall kind of thing. They need to understand the correct machine to use, as well as which pad and product for what they are trying to accomplish.

Whenever my last car (which was purchased brand new from a dealer) had to go in to them for anything, I made sure they knew not to give me the complimentary wash.

Doesn't feel good being the bad guy, but you have to do it. You have to hold them accountable.

I expect everyone who I pay to touch my truck to be a professional. They don't get a pass to damage my vehicles - oh well.

If they can't do it right, or sub it out to have it done right... sorry pal you're in the wrong fuckin' business.

They can either work with you on a swap or cut you a reimbursement check to fix what they erred.
