I once drove mine (not quite understanding what the Owner's Manual stated) some 8 miles with the 4WD Hi engaged, paved road, towing a 4,000 pound trailer (loaded). Still works.:rofl:

I have a handy place not far from my house (Fiesta Island for people who know San Diego and Mission Bay)

Some of you may know it as the site of the big OMBAC Over-The-Line tournament every summer. It's tame now in comparison, but it used to be a weekend (Usually my birthday weekend) of SERIOUS debauchery back in the day.

It's unusual in that you can actually drive on the beach for quite a ways right in the middle of the city.

There's hard packed dirt as well as some reasonably deep sand.

I go down there and run around semi-regularly to engage/disengage and keep actuators lubed and moving.

I'll intentionally dig it in a bit in 2WD just to practice walking it out in 4WD.

It's also where I go to fill sandbags on the rare occasions that we're expecting super heavy rain dumps since my garage floods a bit if it dumps too hard too fast. It's handy to be able to just park up against a berm and start shoveling.

Didn't read all posts so sorry if repeating. Every couple of months or so, driving straight, and when it's raining hard. No snow in Florida so I do it when it's raining, road traction a little slicker. Just so I am ready to head to the mountains in NC, TN, for some mud and snow fun.

I would do that but WV really doesn't have any "straight" roads. Interstate has sections but I don't want to go that fast in 4WD.

Makes sense...but you also get snow in WV so winter shouldn't be an issue to engage. Traction on dry when turning is the issue. Front and rear trying to push/pull against each other. Snow is better but rain is okay as you want the surface to be slick and allow a tire to slip if needed.

I put mine into 4 wheel drive everytime I go 4 wheeling. No issues.
