Sorry if this has been discussed/answered before but I really can't find it documented anywhere. I'm a big guy and weigh 400+ lbs (yeah I know). I have been aftaid to sit/setep on my tailgate because I don't know what can hold and don't want to damage my new truck. How silly am I being, or is this a valid concern.

    Did a quick search
On a 3/16 stainless steel cable, which is the most common found on tailgates.....
An individual cable has the breaking strength of 4200 lbs
Safe working load of 840 lbs
Also depends on where the load is placed.
Chances are if a mass load is placed in the center of the tailgate then the tailgate itself could bow or bend
I have personally had a little over 600 lbs resting on my tailgate without a problem. A periodic check of the cables themselves is definitely a good idea

Now that’s how you answer a question.

    :fistbump:

    840x(5xsafe working Load)=4200.

    Great information.

Just checked my '18 owner's manual, no mention of it. Kinda surprised at that.

Well my quad is about 700 lbs and I'm 220 lbs, haven't broke the tailgate yet with all that weight

Yeah, I read my owners manual cover to cover and couldn’t find anything. I also thought that was odd.
