You know I've seen that as well and didn't even think about it until you mentioned it. Maybe I should be shopping for a cheap utility trailer, could probably find 1 for the cost of the suspension upgrades I had planned on the truck anyway.

Think I can get the weight of the camper down to about 1k lbs, i sure would like to use this truck as I hate Ford and I know about rams reputation.

I almost recommended this route. Sell your camper and pick up a trailer. Better to pull the weight and run a wdh ad necessary.

LOL Why would he need a trailer if he sold the camper?

Could've been more clear. Pick up a travel trailer.

The idea to keep the truck free from the weight of the camper would be my goal.

I like this idea but I think for the cost id rather have a class A or C and just flat tow the truck
It's a 2wd very base SR5, so I guess flat towing could be a thing?

Depends on how big of a motorhome you're thinking but, in my opinion, fewer drivetrains to maintain is a good thing.

    Let's walk back a little...

are you living in this camper?

do you have any other vehicles?

access all of your options and make the choice that best fits your current situation.

2wd and 4WD have nothing to do with how you pull a TT. Or how you'd pull the tundra other than minimal weight differences.

Now I'm genuinely curious about maintenance. My experience with travel trailers has not been great. I've had everything fail in one except the floor and the roof

But the motorhome has a floor and a roof and all the other pieces a travel trailer does plus an engine and transmission.

    This ^^^

just another drivetrain to maintain. Whether you keep your current truckbed camper or get a tt or motorhome all 3 will have parts that need service. But the motorhome will have the added service of drivetrain and engine.

It does depend on what you're interested in. If you're looking to get a 40 foot diesel pusher to full time in or if you only own a small car, then a motorhome can make sense. But if you already own a pickup and you're looking for a camper that's shorter than about 28 feet, a travel trailer makes more sense to me.

Ideally the camper would've worked on the tundra, mostly because that is all I have to my name. Now I just gotta think about the cheapest way to do it safe and I might end up selling off or trading the tundra. I had no idea these trucks were so disappointingly weak, even the half ton ram Laramie is good up to 10k.

I thought 150/1500 was quarter, 2500 was half and 3500 was 3/4 or 1 depending if you got the dually or not.
Edit: either way, too little truck sucks to the moon!!!

1500 is 1/2 ton , 2500 is 3/4 ton and 3500 is 1 ton regardless of duel or single wheel .

Y'all know what is real disappointing? The damn hilux has a 2000 lb payload. I expected more from the bigger truck. :censored:

Most half tons do not have much for payload. Technically half tons should be 1000 lbs.

Since you can't import a modern Hilux, it isn't even something to compare. Some of the LC 70 series trucks have big payloads, but they are also 1.25 ton trucks.

Like you, I found out pretty quickly the tundra is a beast, but it has limits...mostly payload and fuel range.

I went from 3/4 ton diesels to a tundra, then back to a 1 ton diesel. My next truck will most likely be gas 3/4-1 ton with a whipple supercharger.

I looked long and hard at used Class A motorhomes and decided that route would be a deep money pit. I can do most maintenance on a travel trailer and my Tundra very easily but brakes on a motorhome just isn't easily done for me. Also the reliability of a used motorhome vs a Tundra? Opposite ends there. Resale value? Sure a $26,000 travel loses a lot of value quickly but the Tundra doesn't.

Sure, for the 2500/250, which is not in the same class as the Tundra. Look at the Tundra vs a 1500/150 for an apples to apples comparison.
