I’m getting quoted about $47,000 OTD after $2000 discount but with 4.49% financing after a $10000 deposit.

    Or

    $49,000 OTD with 1.9% financing after a $10000 deposit.

The second one comes out better long term.

This is for a 2020 Trd sport package, after about $3800 in taxes. How do you guys feel about this deal?

Just needing some clarification. The prices you list are before that $10,000 down payment, right? If so, your OTD prices would actually be $37k and $39k respectively, right?

That seems really high to me. My truck's MSRP was $47,XXX to start with. I contacted the dealership for their "internet only price" that was discounted and had a $2500 instant rebate, and it was $41,XXX before any taxes and such. (I will not finance taxes, and sales tax in my state was lower than where I bought it so I opted to pay the taxes at home.)

Anyway, that had me starting out from $41k before any money down or trades. Now, my truck is not the TRD Sport; it is the TRD Off Road, but they are both just packages on an SR5 Truck. The pic below is the package/features list of my truck. If you aren't getting A WHOLE LOT MORE than what I have here, then you're getting shafted.

Is your goal to pay the least amount of money ? Or is your goal to have comfortable payments. Those two are not the same. Personally, I care about the total number that comes out of my pocket. Sometimes, the interest rate is higher and the payments are higher yet it’s the cheapest way given other variables. So go by the final number to determine what the true and final cost is.

For whatever it’s worth. Whether you give $10000 down, or pay the whole thing, you get taxed on it all. Otherwise if you give all of it down ( paid cash) you would be paying no tax, and the government would never go for that.

A discount is before tax, or a trade in, is before tax.

Rebates (which is money down from a manufacturer), and down payments are after tax.

To further what I'm saying, if you give $5000 vs the price of a car, or $25000, Or the whole thing, or nothing down. You still pay the same amount of tax. There is no getting around that.

Forgive me if I repeated what anyone else said.

Two dealerships gave me the same prices off by a few hundred dollars. I understand a lower interest rate might not always be the best and a more discounted price doesn’t always mean better also.

May goal is to pay less overall, doesn’t matter how much the monthly payments are.

Just seems that in my area the two dealership and a third offered similar pricing

I agree that there isn’t enough info here. Can you breakdown everything? In other words, CrewMax/DC, packages and add-ons, MSRP, discount/rebates, doc fee, DMV fee, tax, then OTD?

I’d also imagine you could get a better interest rate from one of your local credit unions. Toyota also had the 1.9% when I purchased mine 3 weeks ago but the math worked in my favor at my local
credit union where I got 3.14%.

I mainly focused on the things I could control (i.e. Dealer discounts/fees, Tundra price, throwing in add-ons, etc.), not things you can’t (MSRP, DMV fees, rebates are from the manufacturer and not the dealer).

Lastly, definitely build the same Tundra on Edmunds so you can see the dealers invoice and a suggested price for the same truck. When I used it and got hold of my dealers invoice price, Edmunds was spot on.

You can also consider leasing and buying it outright after, if you have the capital once the term is complete. That is the catch. If you go on payments after the fact, it beats the purpose.

Usually I am against leasing unless I can right off the expense; however, sometimes the interest rate in a lease is much lower than finance thus saving you a sizeable amount if you run the numbers and play the long game. I only lease if my intention is to keep the actual vehicle. In addition, Toyota has historically priced their residual values much cheaper than market value which is why the dealerships are always happy to buy it off you and put you in another vehicle with the same payment. They make much more money on a used vehicle than new.

Anyway, I leased my last tundra due to a very low interest rate for a few years knowing full well that I was buying it after. Once I paid the residual, the vehicle cost me about $2500 cheaper than if I would have financed it. I didn't buy the car cash on day one due to the opportunity cost of tying up money for no reason and taking on any liability I can avoid. Plus I wanted to test the vehicle for a few years should anything go wrong ie "A lemon or I get in a major accident", I can give it back after the term, and it's not my issue nor am I stuck with the vehicle.

If we were to assume that all the dealers in you area offered the same price, I would strictly buy from the dealer with the best customer service. Hec, I would even pay more to deal with a dealer that has a track record of looking after their customers. The older I get, the more this stuff means to me.

Lastly, watch out for the bullshit fees such as "window etching, admin. freight" etc

I just cross those out on a cost sheet breakdown and advise the dealer that I will pay only half the freight and tax. It works every time for me.

Anyway good luck on whatever you choose

What was MSRP, Rebate qualification and dealer discount breakdown?
Without these details the price is irrelevant.

This may work through TFS, but if you use a non captive bank like Ally or US Bank, then you're gonna wanna turn it back in. Right now these trucks are leasing extremely well because the residuals are 80% and above, so even with the high money factor you can still be into one for ~300/mo all in. I am strictly talking about SR5 crewmax’s, any other trim does not lease well.

I’ve only recently stumbled upon leasehackr, what is the premise of all these super cheap leases? I saw a post with $1,333 up front with 24 months of $341.24 and at the end of that I could buy the Tundra all out for $31,976

Which comes out to approximately around $42k total at the end?

    How's this even possible?

My last two were SR5 for that purpose. They are best bang for the buck all things considered. I’m not a fan of leather and I don’t like push button start gadgets cause they get stolen easy up here.

The high residual makes the rent charge very minimal. Then for this month some areas have around 2750 in incentives. I personally leased my 49k MSRP SR5 crewmax with the TRD offroad package for 360/mo with zero at signing. So effective payment is 345/mo since the dealer made the first payment.

first, I wish each and everyone one peace and safety through this uncertain times. What a bizarre and eire time to be in.
Yes sir !!! And you carry no liability in that you don’t care what happens to it either way. Plus the cost of lease is less than depreciation. Hec you lose like 10-20 percent as soon as you leave the lot. Maybe more.

I’ll take 345/month any day and no liability vs tying up cash and taking undue risk. And if one can wright off the expense, then you’re way ahead of the game. But this is my situation. Might not work for everyone.

I just find the lease game doesn’t get a fair shake. Sure someone can get hosed and taken. But if you play the number game, you can really come out ahead and save time, headache, money, liability and change vehicles every few years.

Besides, what the hell can you find for $160 biweekly roughly. Sold !!! Lol

Assuming you don't mod or do anything to the truck it would be a good idea right?

Have you modded the truck and then try to return the truck? If you have, did they give you problems?

    Yep.

Almost forgot - in addition to the other stuff, it was 'free throw month' so if you made 1 basket from the free throw line, you got $100 towards parts; if you made two, $200.

So in addition to ALL the stuff I listed above, I've ALSO got $100 towards truck mod stuff. :D :D :D

    Just remember 2009...
I drove on a dealer's lot and new 4x4 SR5s were $23k. I'd paid $31k for the '07 one I was driving at the time. If you can wait 6 months prices will be lower...

I got lucky and got a 16’ TSS (Midwest package) used and it had 6,000 miles on it. I paid $38k. Dealer wanted $48k for same truck with 5 miles on it new. May not be cheapest deal but it was for the Aera.
