Wow, you actually got them down to your offer by waiting? My buddy just got a CM Limited from there and he paid exactly what they wanted. They had a “dealer markup” of $2000 on every truck.

Wow. I'm surprised, especially during a pandemic that they aren't super desperate to sell. The Sales Manager did come and find me when I finally got there to finish the paperwork and told me I worked him really hard but congratulated me on the truck. I don't know what your buddy's situation was like but I wasn't in a hurry, I wasn't trading anything in and I kept pushing that I'm ready to sign the line right now but willing to go to the Lower 48 and get a better deal (and have a fun ride up the ALCAN). I guess patience pays off?

Actually the exact opposite is happening. I have a friend who owns and dealership and inventory is extremely short and they have set sales records the last 3 months.

There's nothing to sell out my way, the lots are almost empty right now. The dealer in Gorham, NH had 3 Tundras on the entire lot..

this. a month ago stock was good, but people are still buying (I know I couldn't pass up 0% and delayed payments) and the factory was shut down for a couple of months, so no new ones are coming in.

I paid $32,500 otd for my CPO 2018 TRD OR with 10k miles in mid-May but I didnt get any extended warranties. The 2016-2017 infernos I was looking at with similar mileage to yours were $29-31k typically but held out for the 2018. Paid exactly book on mine so not sure on yours.. the market is strange right now anyways.

It's because we are missing the other half of the equation... What did you get for your trade? Dealerships tend to look at your trade vs new car price as a balance, thus in order to REALLY know if someone got a good deal you need to know how much they got for their trade, and if it was a fair price. I am willing to bet that some of the folks getting 7K off the MSRP took the hit on their trade in value.

Dealerships will often make you think you are getting a good deal by taking thousands off the MSRP for the vehicle you want to buy, all while they pay thousands less on your trade than it's worth. It's a balancing act which is why you should ALWAYS deal with the two vehicles and their number as a separate entity.

If I bring my Tundra to a dealership to trade and we will say it has a max trade value of 34K and I want to buy a new Tundra with a sticker price of 47K. The dealership with roll the numbers to either side, whichever side makes you feel like you are getting a better deal. So if I go in and my focus is on getting a solid 34K for my trade, and no deal unless I get that they will give me 34K for my trade, but only take 4K off the new vehicle. If someone else comes in and their focus is entirely different and they say they want the truck out the door for 40K they will say ok, we will give you 30K for your trade. In other words they are only moving numbers to make YOU feel better, they aren't loosing coin, UNLESS you are a sharp shopper and realize what they are doing.

As I said previously this is why you should always make them work the numbers as a separate transaction. Work on the value of your trade in first, and then work on the numbers for the vehicle you want to buy, this will make it more difficult for them to do this.

-T (professional car buyer I trade often and usually have 10-12K in equity because I know their tricks).

I paid $38K for my truck in 2013. On a recent dealer service visit, I found the 2020 version on the lot going for $48K. I'm good with what I have.

Well said. I had a friend back in the 80s that traded in a 70s pickup and got like (these numbers are not accurate because I have long since forgotten details) $3000 trade in. A few days later he calls me and says (boy that dealer is stupid, He gave me $3 grand for my truck and is selling it for $2 grand". Little did he realize he way over paid on the new truck he bought. It is all just a numbers game. I sold new Nissans back in 86 and learned quite a lot from that experience. Most of these posts do not contain nearly enough info to know if it was a good deal or not. As long as you are happy with your deal then all is good.

Well said on the last few posts. I didn’t trade in a vehicle when buying my 2020 for that fact. I just focused on the OTD price because at the end of the day that’s what mattered. And as far as I’m concerned finance managers with their warranty up sales can go choke on something. (Just a rant) because I think they can make it up on the back end with those warranty and service contracts. I had to tell the guy no 4 times before he got the hint That I was about to walk out when buying my wife’s AWD RAV4. And they talk to you like you are buying a car without tires when you tell them no.

I picked up a CPO 2018 Limited Crewmax With 20k miles last weekend for $39,000. I priced the exact same truck new at $47,000. I have more warranty and saved $8,000. Happy with my purchase! I sold my 2007 Limited DC with 142,000 miles the week prior for $12,000. Sold to the first guy who came to look at it and had others waiting in line. I bought that one for $30,000 in 2010!

    Hey Brandon,
I'm looking to get into a platinum myself and have a couple questions.
Is your truck 4x4 and did it come with the sunroof? Does that OTD price include a rebate and how much if so? Lastly what was msrp if you don't mind sharing?

Yes its 4x4, had the sunroof as well. We used the USAA car buying service (truecar) which dropped the price a bit and the Toyota cash back rebate was $2,500. I also qualified for $500 off for military discount and $500 off for recent college grad from my wife finishing her masters since we are both on the financing. Sticker was $54,900

My 2020 1794 MGM was MSRP $55003 got them to $47323 BEFORE TTL with no trade just a straight-up deal. Also my dealership has lifetime oil changes/state inspections & powertrain warranty for as long as I own it. Now with all the horror stories, I see from dealers' mistakes on service I will check it when I pick it up and often.

If possible, can you say what state? Out the door doesn’t help much without a state because taxes are so different among states. Or post the price before TTL.

:notsure:☹️:notsure::notsure:Not a great time to buy trucks... I paid just below sticker price and jumped on the truck because they had the color and package I wanted. There wasn’t another truck like the one I wanted in a 1500 mile radius of Denver. I have a 2020 MGM 1794 with the TRD OR package. Also had the bed liner in and window tent/clear bra from dealer. I was able to have them pay for more than 2/3 of the dealer add ons. I pulled trigger because of 2 reasons. Did not know what new incentives would be. The 2500 was hard to pass up (they ended up extending it this month) I have never seen that incentive on this truck out here. I paid 54,900 before tax. A little heavy but it was the truck I wanted and didn’t want to wait a year for inventory to catch up... life is short right?

2020 SR5 for $42k on Fathers Day. I would recommend going through Costco and using a dealership in a city. The dealer in the small town i live by would not give me the time of day trying for $5k down and a payment under $550 a month. They just said no. I found an Orange one at a dealership in the North Bay Area and they sold me a new one for a few grand more.
