I do as many services as I can by myself. I have heard too many horror stories from folks that get work done at a dealer/mechanic shop. The money savings is nice, but the piece of mind that it is done right is invaluable.
I do oil and filter changes every 5k with Toyota filters and Mobil 1, costs less than $50. Recently did both differentials and transfer case with Ravenol fluids from Blauparts, and power steering fluid using Dexron III. Will tackle transmission fluid shortly.

Transmission service actually looks not that bad on this vehicle. New gasket and internal filter basket doesn't look expensive. Most other vehicles I've shied away from doing transmission anything at all with, but this one I might do myself. We'll see when I hit the 110k mark, which will be 50k after the last service.

    Too many, but not enough....
It costs me 45 bucks to do it myself. It's like 110 at one of the quick change places for full synthetic

Do yourself a favor and research...only drain and fill, leave the pan alone! You will likely only have broken off pan bolts and a filter that is slightly discolored if you think otherwise. Good on you for making maintenance a priority though!

$60 here, 5w-30 synthetic Mobil one, a Wix cartridge, a plug seal, and one Modelo. About 30-40 minutes taking my time and enjoying the quiet time away from the norm. I enjoy wrenching, and push my truck pretty hard so I have changed it three times so far and it's at 12k+. Added the Fumoto valve on the last one so now I can stop buying plug seals-no brainer! You guys go ahead and shop your shit and drink some old :censored: coffee!:puke:

I have watched many videos about the trans pan bolts breaking off. Last time I was under the truck, the bolts all looked pretty clean; seems like the folks who have had them break talk about visible corrosion on the exposed shank of the bolt that weakened them. I plan on looking them over real good before even trying, then give them a shot of PB blaster for a few minutes. I would really like to clean off the magnets in the pan if I could. If the bolts look crappy, I will just do the flush and fill method.

actually, get under and spray fluid film/surface shield on the bolt heads. Will keep corroding to minimum in the case it needs to be dropped in the future.

as for 45$ diy oil changes yep,

Was at a midwest Tuffy repair shop and its 99$ for syn oil change for 5 quart so it’s going to be more expensive for nine. And then you never know really the person who’s doing it and how much experience they have with your make and model.

I bought an oil change package from Hendrick Toyota in Merriam, KS. I have their Lexus dealership do it up north bc it’s closer. High quality setup. Paid about $350-375 for the package for 20,000 miles of service @ 5k. If that makes sense….lol

I do my own oil changes with amsoil. Signiture series with the amsoil filter. Used to only cost about 90 dollars but due to inflation its about 130 now. 10k or 1 year. Which ever comes first. Been using amsoil since 2014.

Do my own $46. Using mobil one and toyota filters. And doing tire rotation. And one hour of my time. I like checking the whole truck out and know it's done right. Fastest a dealer ever changed my oil with drive time is 2 hours so 3 hours is normal. So it's a easy choice 1 hour and save 50 bucks or 3 hours of my time and pay dealer 50 bucks more than it costs me.

Paid $103 at my dealer with tire rotation. Usually do my own for about $75 but it’s cold out and I needed the wiring harness recall done also. They do a good job so I wasn’t concerned about them screwing anything up

If you don't have a Fumoto valve you need to get one. The other thing is to take the POS skid plate off in the fall and put it back on in the spring. I switched over to the Pro skid plate just for the fact it makes it so much easier to do an oil change and you don't have to mess with the bolts. By the way I am about 140 miles north of you and plan and doing my own but will try to wait till its kinda warm out before changing.

Nice! Since I just did my oil, I won’t need to do it for a while but would like to do my own transfer case and transmission fluids.

it’s been cold these days, so will probably need to wait a while.

i believe that in order to do the transmission fluids, I will need to drop the Miller Cat shields which I do not look forward to doing.

Mountain states Toyota in Colorado wanted to charge 160 with a tire rotation. After I laughed at that we agreed to 4 oil changes with tire rotations for 220. I have 4 years to use them.

My Toyota dealer charges less than 6 bucks for oil filter with tax. And Costco just had 6 quart packs of mobil one on sale for 26.99. I bought 30 quarts to stock up. So I should be doing my next 3 oil changes in the 45$ range

Walmart my me used to sell 5 quart jugs of mobil one for 22.99 but now they are 29.99. But with tax and filter your still below 60 bucks. O by the way I love costco.

You can get toyota filters from dealers for less than 5 bucks if you look, and alot of them come with a free shipping code too. And yes, costco is amazing. I too bought the max allowable amount when they had the oil sale. Did that twice lol.

You can also find mobil 1 75w-90 for 10 bucks a quart or less if you look at bulk. I bought 12 on Amazon for 110 bucks a few months back. I am set for a few years lol

Yea I was just responding to the guy asking how are people finding the oil and filters for 50 bucks. I am fine paying almost 6 bucks for filters from my dealer. I will take all my business their until they do me wrong. I didn't know you could get the deal more than one. I tried on xbox cash cards and they cut me off in store and online once I hit the limit. And they couldn't tell me if it was a lifetime limit or what limit it was?

Dealer charged me $100 for the 1st oil change. I requested it before the toyotacare required change. I'll let them deal with it until toyotacare is up, then I'll take over like everything else.

Wow. Closest place to me that sells Mobil 1 is 36.99 for 5 qts, and 10 for the filter. To drive to the nearest dealer (charges 90 for the oil change) and back costs me $15 in gas. It's amost as far to drive to Walmart.
