Yeah, I pretty much just care about the winter lawn nowadays. In the winter, it'll be golf course nice. In the summer, just blow enough $$ on water to keep it somewhat alive to keep the dust down.

We were up your way last summer during your so called "heat wave". Hitting the high 90's and it was wonderful!!

The locals didn't feel the same way about it. Beautiful place though.

Yeah, but you're also experiencing A/C issues, right? That does suck! High humidity in your area too. Fans are your friend right now plus the first rule of ventilation - there must be a goes-in and a goes-out. That means air intake on one side and exhaust on the other side.

Yep. Old house so I was able to close off the downstairs at the dining room to keep the 2nd floor unit from working too hard. AC guy replaced the compressor and it's working right now. He's letting the refrigerant settle or whatever and then will come back to remeasure and add more. Keeping my fingers crossed that there isn't something else. He thought the refrigerant had a weird smell to it and was afraid it burned or something. But he tested the old compressor and said it was a mechanical failure and not the refrigerant going to shit.

When we first bought the house, we had problems with that unit. He came out and removed a ton of refrigerant from it. Whomever installed it or tried to work on it at some point overloaded it by a lot. He's thinking that may have overtaxed the compressor and that's why it gave out sooner than it should have.

Burnt stinky refrigerant is usually a sign of a acid burnout(the windings short and cook the oil) hopefully it wasn’t that, or this compressor won’t last long if he didn’t use an acid scavenger additive.
But he’s smart to just let it run, it’s super easy to over charge systems, and you can damage them by flooding them when you charge.

He just finished topping it off. He said the refrigerant was fine - that's why he tested the old compressor before putting the new one on. Also sounds like I was lucky to get the compressor. Seems to be a shortage.
